  1. I am not entirely sure what happened to they guy who brought a backpack, if he had to leave the bag outside or if it was allowed in. However I did see women with pretty large handbags who were allowed to bring them in.

Thanks for the input. The interviewee is male, so I think a purse is out... ;) I'm guessing a soft sided briefcase is a better choice than a backpack. Whatever he brings, he'll be stuck carrying it around Stockholm all day.

  2. For those who recently had their interviews in Stockholm...

How large of a bag can one bring to the embassy (to hold paperwork)? I've seen on the embassy website that luggage and electronics are not allowed. I'm wondering if a brief case/messenger bag or small backpack would be allowed inside?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. :secret:

    Thanks! :star:

  3. Finally! Interview date June 10th! :)

I am so glad that you finally got an interview date. Great news!

    Hi everyone!

My husband is getting ready to go to his interview in a couple days and I just wanted to post what I have told him to bring just to make sure I am not missing anything. Any feedback or suggestions welcome! Thank you and good luck to all of you with your upcoming interviews!

    - Interview letter
    - DS-260 form
    - Passport
    - Two passport photos with white background
    - Medical packet
    - Originals of the following:
    - Police Certificate
    - Birth Certificate
    - Marriage Certificate
    - Updated financial information (tax transcripts from 2014)
    - Proof of relationship (Some additional information we have obtained)

If applicable for your country, don't forget the original military certificate.

  4. My spouse has an IR-1 visa interview coming up soon. The embassy insists that the name used for the visa must match the machine readable line in the passport. This will be the second time my spouse applies for US permanent residence. The first time was before machine readable passports, so the Scandinavian vowel ø in the last name was simply replaced by an o. There are now over 20 years of records in the US under the Americanized name. The Swedish embassy insists that regulations state that the vowel must be spelled out as oe to match the machine readable line on the passport and to do otherwise would cause problems with entry into the US.

Documentation was sent to the NVC indicating why it was important to spell my spouse's last name the American way. The information on the CEAC site was upated, so we thought all would be fine. When the embassy sent an interview confirmation email, we noted the extra e in the name. The email responses have been insistent that the only way to drop the e would be to have the Danish passport changed. Doesn't seem like a real option as my spouse is not going to make a legal name change.

My questions to those that have gone before us:

    1. Will a name spelling difference between the visa/future green card and the existing social security card cause any problems?

    2. If by some miracle we can convince the embassy to use the Americanized name on the visa, will we have trouble with CBP every time we travel?

If anyone else has dealt with various name spellings on US documents, I would love to hear about your experience.

  5. Dwheels, I need you to point me in the right direction please. :goofy:

Our last name contains the Scandinavian vowel ø. Back when we did this process the first time, the Green Card and SSN card were issued with an o for the ø. All US records for over 20 years contain the o. With the 'new' machine readable passports, the vowel in the name has been transcribed to oe in the machine readable info line. We got NVC to recognize the importance of using an o instead of oe, and the CEAC site (including the DS-260) reflects the original Americanized spelling. Thought all was good. When the embassy in Stockholm sent an interview confirmation email, the name was spelled with an oe.

I sent an email to the embassy pointing out the name error and was sent a standard response of 'the name must be spelled like it is on the machine readable passport.' :protest: My better half doesn't want to battle this out with the consular officer, and we are wondering who we could possibly contact at USCIS or the Department of State to get an official statement on the matter to bring to the interview. This isn't simply a preference. There is a 20+ year history with the Americanized name for US taxes, immigration records, work history, financial accounts, etc.

Any ideas on who to contact? :help:

  6. Still not received the NVC welcome letter. Am able to login to NVC but AOS payment status shows: NOT INVOICED

    guys is it normal?

This message is showing when I try to fill DS -261.

Please be advised that the case that you have attempted to access is not eligible for further processing by the National Visa Center at this time. Please contact the National Visa Center if you believe that you have received this message in error.

I got the NVC case no and invoice no when i called em. But they are saying still my case is not invoiced. Its been 37 days since USCIS has accepted our petition.

I'd give it a business day or two more for NVC to fully get your case set up. If you still can't pay AOS fee or submit DS-261, I'd give NVC a call. There could be a technical problem with your case that will only be resolved if you call them and let them know what's going on. Most of the time, the NVC welcome email and AOS invoice will generate within a day or two of the case number being assigned.

As j&ana already stated, the length of time since your petition was approved at USCIS carries no weight here. It's all about when the case number was assigned and when the case was set up on the system(s) at NVC.

I hope it all gets worked out soon and you can start the NVC part of the process!

  7. This is a super weak questions and I feel kind of embarrassed to ask this.... But for NVC, most of the documents will be sent as copies right? We don't need to send originals of birth certificates/marriage certificates/other documents as NVC do not return these documents?

All of the IV/Civil documents can be copies. You will take the originals to the interview. Make sure that all documents are from the proper authority to avoid a checklist at NVC. AOS forms must be originals with original signatures.

Much better to ask questions than to worry over things or potentially get an NVC checklist. :goofy:

  8. Hi all....so happy to see all these approvals! Mine was just approved on 3/30 and sent to NVC on 4/8.

    I have 2 questions:

    1. My husband is currently in Japan - Will NVC send all documents to me (my U.S. address or my email) or his address in Japan? For the record I did put down my email on G-1145 form.

    2. My income in 2014 and current income meet the Poverty guideline but not in 2013 and 2012 (was a student back then). Will this be an issue during the AOS process?

    Thank you all!!

    Welcome to the group! :star:

The only physical mail we received was the NVC welcome letter that was sent to the beneficiary. All other correspondence was by email. The first thing received was the welcome letter by email to the petitioner (which preceded the physical letter by about a month). The AOS invoice came by email to the petitioner the same day as the welcome email. Later on in the process, both the petitioner and beneficiary received each email.

Every once in a while, that first welcome email doesn't get sent. Check the timelines of other filers with an approval date near yours. If you feel you're waiting extra long, be sure to call NVC to get your case number and invoice id number. Once the case is fully set up on their system, you will be able to add your email (if for some reason they don't have it).

I'm afraid that I can't offer any advice relating to your AOS question. Hopefully, someone else can help you out on that one. :help:

Best of luck for a smooth journey through NVC. :goofy:

  9. Just wanna update you guys.We have a checklist,oh well ? Hubby forgot to answer one of the question.

Sorry to hear about the checklist. Hopefully you can get the corrected information to NVC right away. I've read the processing times are quoted at 45 days now, but I'm sure I've seen some case completes closer to 30 days after documents were scanned in. I hope they give you a speedy CC!

  10. Hi j&ana!

Just want to know if its ok to just scan the NVC welcome letter and send it to my husband? I don't want to wait for the IV cover sheet, it's been so long.

No need to wait! Just use a copy of the NVC welcome letter cover sheet. A scanned copy to your husband will work fine. Just make sure the bar code is clear. It's that bar code that identifies your case. Good luck! :star:

  11. When I had my interview for a student visa I flew to Stockholm and spent the night at Scandic Ariadne. Price is not bad and you can take the buss from the buss stop right outside the hotel almost all the way to the embassy, it takes about 20 minutes if I remember correctly and then it's a short walk. The hotel is nice, pretty new and great service.

Thank you for the helpful reply. :star:

  12. Hi all! We just got our NOA2 and i wanted to know if any of you could help me with what vaccinations thats required? Im from Denmark, i cant seem to find anywhere what vaccinations i need? I know i need Hep A and Hep B and that flu shot if i want it or not. But can anyone from Denmark tell me which ones i need? Im gonna get them all done so i dont end up not making it before the medical which of course isnt anything soon since our case hasnt left the CSC yet. Help :-) Thank you guys!! Camilla, Copenhagen

Here's the info that's posted by the embassy in Stockholm via a link on the nvc.state.gov site:

    VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS – GENERAL GUIDELINES

All immigrant visa applicants are required to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of the immigrant visa. You may need to have one or more of the vaccinations listed below, depending on your age. The panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive the required vaccinations. If born after 1956, Diphtheria/Tetanus (within the last 10 years) and MMR are always required. The other listed vaccinations may be required for specific age groups. The panel physicians can give you more information.

    *Mumps *Measles *Rubella Meningococcal

*Polio Pertussis Rotavirus Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

Hepatitis B *Varicella Hepatitis A Influenza type b (Hib)

*Contraindicated for pregnant woman and immune-deficient individuals.

I believe that the flu shot is only needed if the medical/interview falls during flu season.

  13. Got a text message today, April 1st, telling our I-130 was finally approved! Called my husband abroad and he wouldn't believe me thinking it was a April fools joke. He had to check the case status online to believe

    PD was Oct. 22nd.

We did contact our state Senator the day the 5-month processing period expired. Not sure if it helped because we called their office yesterday and were told the staff in charge of Immigration issues was out and would be returning next week only.

I-130 FINALLY APPROVED! PD was October 30, 2014, and we got our approval on March 31, 2015. So we got our approval exactly 5 months and 1 day after NOA1. I still haven't received text or e-mail message, but status was changed online. I called my partner today, and she thought it as an April Fool's joke too! Good luck to everyone still waiting for NOA-1. It looks like they are finally making their wy though the October filers.

Congratulations to you both!
