    Hi guys.

Can I have some question about N400? My wife had divorced before I married her,so, do I have to submit her divorced paper when I apply for N400? Is okay if I will travel outside America for 2 months after I got biometric? Sorry I do not know where I can ask... thank you guy so much.

You have to submit all documents showing both your and her previous marriages have ended. You can travel outside as long as it doesn’t affect your physical presence requirements in the USA. Although sometimes they process these things pretty fast and your interview could be within two months of your biometrics.

Congratulations! Get those 100 questions memorized now 😊 I’ve re-read them so many times lol, Wednesday is my turn! Good luck to you too.

I feel like it is easier to memorize the questions than actually know all the information. If you know too much you might give the "wrong" answer that the IO isn't expecting or on their list.

I can't wait, my interview is Monday. I've put aside 10 hours to study the questions. I will know them 100% by then. Also need to compile every document under the sun to prove my marriage.

I don't think so it is the factor. You can schedule infopass year around if there is a slot available. You are absolutely fine and you have to show your GC on the day of your interview if being asked.

Cleveland has pretty much every slot open every day. I've tried multiple slots and it always says "You have already scheduled an appointment."

My only appointment is the week after for my N400 interview. Looks like they don't allow you to have multiple appointments so close together.

I won't lose status for not getting stamped right?

  4. I tried to book an infopass and was given an error screen saying I have an appointment. I know I have one for my N400 but by ROC 1 year extension letter expires 1 week prior, doesn't this mean I won't be able to prove status?

And if they don't give me a stamp on the day of my interview then I can't do anything like travel. It sounds like there is a flawed system if I can't schedule an infopass

Exciting days ahead, might want to get a stamp as after the interview you will need to wait for the ceremony and then the certificate etc. Gives you peace of mind and you have prove of residency in case anyone asks you and it says you have to carry your id 24/7, failing that you could ask them to tattoo it on it your body parts, that way you can never lose it!  :)

Does anyone actually carry their green card on them at all times?

False! You can use your birth certificate to prove your citizenship. My Jordanian birth certificate proves that I'm a Jordanian citizen.

Having a UK birth certificate doesn’t mean you are British. It also depends on the citizenship/permanent resident status of your parents at the time of your birth. Also the rules can change dependending on when you were born, as the law has change a lot over the last 30 years.

If the UK can have complex rules, I wouldn’t be surprised if other countries do. USCIS would then need to know the citizenship rules of the other country. A passport is a document from a country proving you are a citizen (and states it on the passport).

His extension letter expired on February 27th. The GC expiration anniversary is May 22nd. From what we understand the letter extends the card by one year. So it's extended till May 22nd of this year. We already scheduled infopass for April 2nd to get the stamp. I kind of hope the ROC is adjudicated before N-400 especially since Minneapolis field office is so slow. It's almost a two year wait. Plus theres a job he wants that requires 10 year card or citizenship.

That’s weird can they require a 10 year green card? I know citizenship is required for federal and national security related jobs.

  8. Got the email about my interviewing being scheduled. Can’t wait to see it, looks like it will take a couple days.

All this time I thought CRI-89 receipt number was the same as the one in my extension letter... it’s not. So I typed in the receipt in my extension letter and found out that on March 5, 2018, my local office received my case. I sent my packet February of 2017! What does this mean? My case was not transferred to a different service center but why did they just received my case??? So odd.

I have the exact same date on mine, I wonder if they mass requested Feb filers?

I hope this means progress on our cases. On my original GC process I received a call from the Cleveland office saying they were requesting my file, and a month after that I got a notification that my GC had been ordered back in 2015. Maybe we will hear in early April?

I doubt that will happen now, but maybe an interview for my N400 soon would be amazing!

My wife traveled with the original as well as a couple of copies.  At one point in China the Chinese Delta representative reviewed the original and asked to keep it.  Understandably, my wife said no, but she could have a copy of it which the representative gladly accepted.  Otherwise, we have had no issues traveling with her EL and expired GC after 3 more trips.

As to not taking the original, this kind of fails to follow the rules.  To my knowledge, the POE CBP are sticklers about seeing the original as well.  What would have happened if your husband had been allowed to travel but CBP detained him?  Have you done this before and been allowed entry with a copy?

I didn't have any issues using the extension letter in Shanghai, the lady looked at it and never even said a word to me. I'm glad I didn't have any issues, would have been embarrassing as I was traveling with a bunch of executives from my company.

  11. I also checked my extension letter case number and it says my case was received at my local office on March 5th! Hopefully, I get my N400/ROC combo interview soon!

I got the exact same response when visiting England back in October, coming back through atlanta airport with my expired GC and extention letter, he took both from me, did a bit of typing then said Welcome Home, I was surprised there was no issues whatsoever, there's nothing to worry about.

I've travelled 4 times on the extension letter and had no issues, often they ask where I was staying (when I flew threw Canada). One guy even called me "brother" and told me that I should make sure I get my stamp, he said he was worried that I might get trouble if I travel after the extension letter expires.

I've never had such a nice guy at the border, I've only ever had real questions coming to the USA on ESTA or when I go back to the UK (even though I'm a UK citizen) but I think it's because they are trying to assess the purpose of my US spouse visiting the UK with me.

Issue is with the airlines - never USCIS coming back in.

I try to fly through Canada because it costs me 30-50% less than my closest US airport. The guys at the US-Canada border are so nice, only time I got a couple questions was when I travel with my US spouse and kids - when solo they are fine.

I did print out the page from the handbook on what the extension letter means just in case.

  12. My estimated case completion date is all over the place.

First it was August, then moved to June and then to July and now it's October. I wonder it it changes every time the USCIS processing time changes?

At this rate I'll probably get my ROC before my N400 completes. Although means I will have to go get my stamp because my time runs out in the second half of April for my 1 year extension letter.

  13. Mine still says:

    Quote
On February 21, 2017, we received your Form CRI-89, Petition to Remove Conditions of Permanent Resident Status Received

I’m still waiting on my N400 interview date, it looks like CSC is taking 14.5 months right now to process. I wish I had applied in January 2017 when I was eligible rather than waiting until February. Would have shaved off a month most likely.

I wonder if mine will get processed in CSC or be transferred to my local office? If it does get transferred then would that cause a delay to my N400 interview date?

  14. I login to the online portal everyday hoping I have my interview scheduled. It’s like how I was checking the mail everyday to see if I received a letter in the mail for my original green card. I did that for nearly a year :(.

No luck so far, I’m hoping it is before the expiry of my green card extension. So that I can get an appointment to get my stamp the same day rather than driving 2 hours each way twice for the stamp and interview.

If they only allow stamps 2 weeks before expiry then I have to wait to get my stamp at 4/9. Looks like Mrs. helloearth did her appointment about a month before me. Makes me feel like I won’t get my interview until May.

It’s so hard to plan trips internationally when you don’t know when things will happen. Although this is so much better than the ROC process, which seems to be at 14.5 months for CSC right now. I wonder if my ROC or N400 complete first?

    Good evening everyone

I am going to fill online as well this month ( everything is uploaded just need to wait a couple of days for the exact date).

I was checking the processing time for the N-400 around the country and there are difference of 4-6 months between the different offices.

Did anyone picked a different office from where you live in order to speed up the process or does the USCIS might find that suspicious?

I just want to make sure that it won't backfire.

    Thank you for your help

There is only one office that will serve your address, I don't think you can pick a different office. For example, my office is in Cleveland (2 hours away) while the Detroit office is only 1.5hrs away. I assume because it is in Michigan rather than Ohio is why I am having to go to Cleveland.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if they do police checks in your local district, and it might be harder for an office that doesn't serve your local district normally to do those. I would think it would just slow things down as they would just send it to your actual USCIS office.

Website is back up, but now I'm getting this error. Hello USCIS, it is the 18th!

You are not eligible to apply for naturalization

You have been a lawful permanent resident for less than 2 years and 9 months. At this time, you are not eligible to apply for naturalization as a person who has been a lawful permanent resident for at least 3 years before submitting this application.

You may be eligible to apply for naturalization as a person who has been a lawful permanent resident for at least 3 years before submitting this application on or after February 18, 2018.

You can continue filling out your application and we will save your information for 30 days from the last time you worked on your application, but you cannot submit your application at this time.

You might have to wait until tomorrow or try later today. The website is pretty buggy. I wonder what timezone they use to calculate the date.

I went to my infopass appointment today to get a 551 stamp in my passport. The officer I saw told me that as of February 7th I was in line for an interview and should receive one in about a month. My online account hasn't changed since biometrics 2 weeks ago and I'm not going to get too excited because the current waiting time for my location is about 10 months, but it would be nice if it's true!

I'm really hoping I get my interview before my ROC extension letter expiry, so I can get the stamp the same day. I don't want to drive 4 hours to get a stamp then another 4 hours for a interview.

    Thank you all for contributing.

    1. If you go, who will send you the next part of your ROC process?
      1. Be prepared for an RFE, with every bit of marriage evidence you have printed and packaged and ready to go, so your assistant doesn't need to do anything but put the RFE on top and ship it back to USCIS.
      2. Be prepared for both you and your spouse to have to drop everything and attend an interview at your "local office". You'd get a couple weeks notice.
      3. Make sure that, if you don't have your new card by late October, you fly back to the US to make an Infopass to get an I-551 (green card) stamp in your passport. That way, you will still be able to enter the US to attend an interview.
    2. Assuming that you don't get approved for N-470, you still need to file an I-131 for a re-entry permit. That way, even if you lose your "place in line" for citizenship, your Permanent Residency won't be in jeopardy.
    3. Don't assume that you don't need a re-entry permit if you plan to "visit" the US while you're working abroad. People do get away with it, but I really wouldn't take the chance if I were you.

Today as of February 13th, 2018 I called USCIS Tier 2 to get some more information about the Re-entry permit I received and the N470 application.

    1) My U.S. spouse will remain in the U.S. since he is working and I will be gone for less than a year. (My planned employment in Ireland will be around 9-12 months) He will check the mail and stay on top of USCIS communications. ROC processing times are crazy but I'm expecting my permanent Green Card around September-October. In case of an emergency like an interview, I can take the next flight. I will keep an eye for the I-551 stamp.

    2) I already got approved for I-131 travel document. It's a re-entry permit looks like a small green passport book. It's valid till my extension letter expires, which is November 23rd, 2018. (USCIS Tier 2 told me that re-entry permits are usually valid for 2 years. Mine is only 9 months since I don't have yet the 10 year Green Card. He also told me that N470 applications are so few that they don't enter them anymore to the system. They now put it on the main file for naturalization. I have received a receipt for N470 and he told me that it is in there and good to go but he couldn't assure me a copy since they don't send approval notices anymore. He recommended requesting a "FOIA" Freedom of Information to get more information)

    3) I will be back before the re-entry permit expires which is November 23rd, 2018 and when I'm back I will be eligible to apply for N400 and N470 should be already in my file.

I hope the information he gave me is correct. I think I'm getting paranoid with this N470. They have no idea who is handling these applications.

This is in response to your response to 3.

Sounds like you won't know whether your N470 was approved or not. If you do come back and file, you probably can't leave the country again. I would assume N470 would be for that specific trip rather. I'm not an immigration lawyer but it sounds like you may need one to figure what to do for your case.
