After almost 6 months of sending my N-400 application, yesterday I became a Naturalized US Citizen. I am posting my personal experience of the oath ceremony held at the LA Convention Center, hoping it will help someone with a similar experience, even though we all have had a unique, personal story. Reading posts from other people’s experiences made it a lot easier for me to understand the whole process and eased/removed my doubts when reading similar, more experienced case postings. One thing that really helped me was being patient and optimistic, so please hang in there, your time will come soon. Good luck!!!
There were two ceremonies on that day one in the morning and one in the afternoon, I attended the one in the afternoon. On the N-445 form it said to be there at 12:10pm, so I left my house early enough to beat the expected traffic and I’m glad I did, traffic was moving very slowly, even though I don’t live in LA I am familiar with the area and chose not to follow the directions I received after my interview which was to take the 110 freeway. I was able to reach the South Hall Parking area fairly quick and found a parking space right away. Parking at the Convention Center is $15.00. I heard stories about people just sitting on the 110 freeway for very long periods of time without moving. So I made my way upstairs and saw a sea of people everywhere. There were vendors selling teddy bears, Certificate/Passport covers, pictures and other things. Also a few voter registration booths.
There was an area for guests and a few lines for applicants, where they checked for your N-445 letter. We were then directed to go upstairs in two different lines, but with so many people it seemed like 4 or 5 lines which eventually became two never-ending lines. Then the lines did a lot of “S” movements and basically ended up back at the starting point, they asked for the N-445 form a couple of times more and finally entered the Hall which had over 200 lines. We were then directed to stand in any line with the form and PRC ready.
Since I read several postings about where or when to fill out the form, I decided to fill it out while waiting in line except for the signature, so when it was my turn I asked the officer if I should sign my “full name”, the officer did not really care and told me just to sign it with my “normal” signature so I did. There were a lot of people that were told to answer the questions on the form and come back in line when done. There seemed to be quite a few people that did not understand English. Anyway, the officer checked and verified the form, then took the “Green Card” and punched a hole on it, made a few check marks and stamped the form, then stapled the PRC to the form and wrote a number on the form. She then told me to go to the line number on the form after the ceremony to pick up my Certificate.
I was then directed to follow a line of people to take a seat and wait. Applicants sat in the front and guests sat in the back By this time (when I took my seat) I had been there for about 30 minutes (12:30). I then asked one of the officers that was handing out voter registration cards, what time the ceremony would actually start, she said the Judge would be there at 13:45 and the ceremony would start at 14:00. Good time to go to the restroom or play your favorite game on your mobile phone.
At around 13:30 they started to announce what to expect and to turn off mobile phones (most people complied). Then the Judge was introduced and presided, said a few words, told everyone to raise their right hand, did the Oath of Allegiance and congratulated everyone and then listen to the speeches from the Judge and the USCIS, watch a video message from the President, a music video, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the National anthem. Then showed a video of “Proud to be a American. The whole thing lasted about 20 minutes. They also acknowledged service people.
They then dismissed the guests and explained the certificate distribution, they dismissed everyone in a first come first served order. Then it is the distribution of the certificates, you line up according to the number written on your form. I was there for about 3 hours. There were 5022 applicants in the afternoon session. Overall a painless experience. Hope this helps and good luck to everyone waiting!!!

You'll only receive a letter after your interview has been scheduled. I've been in line for 6 weeks now and I'm not worried. My service center is taking a while to schedule interviews.

I would not worry too much about the yellow letter. Bring your passport and anything else they request. I received a yellow letter and at the interview I was not asked to show the yellow letter. It is just a request to bring things that you are probably bringing to the interview anyways.
Interview is not as bad as you think. We are all afraid of the unexpected and the unknown, but after it's all done, you wonder why you were worried about it. Be patient follow instructions, don't lie and everything falls into place. All of a sudden you are scheduled for your oath ceremony. After I received the yellow letter I was soon placed for interview, so don't be worried and be glad.

zibra0000, if you are a legal permanent resident and you have been for 5 years, you don't need your wife to apply for citizenship. She can tell you she will call USCIS (immigration) all she wants and will not make a difference. I can't believe that you a falling for those threats or that you are actually being abused. If this is your real situation, you need to move out, if someone is abusing you and you don't do anything about it, they might think you are OK with it and actually like it. She has absolutely no power over you or your legal status if in fact you have been an LPR for 5 years. If you apply for citizenship you need an address that she won't be able to intercept you correspondance from USCIS, you will need the actual appointment letters. You don't need her to become a US citizen and she can't get Joe Arpaio to come after you either.

If I can give you any advice is that you need to be a little more patient, especially since your anniversary date is only next month. There is a lot of speculation on whether an early walk-in biometrics will speed up the process and the consensus is that it doesn't, at least not for most people. Each case is different and some people's biometrics take longer to get processed than others. You did yours less than a week ago, most people take 3-4 weeks to be put in line for interview after the biometrics.
I do understand that it's really hard to have to wait during this process for all the different steps. It's pretty nerve-wrecking at times. I check for updates almost daily!! I'd wait a little longer and if you haven't heard anything in a month or so, then I'd start to worry and act on it by calling USCIS to inquire.

Is this the first status change since the biometrics? What does it say below Testing and Interview? Does it say she is in line for interview or that her interview had been scheduled? Because these are two different things. Once you get scheduled for the biometrics, your online status changes to Testing and Interview and under that same category it goes to In line for interview and Interview Scheduled. I'm sorry but I don't think you were very clear about it. When you are in line for interview they also say to call if you don't get anything within 90 days.
So if she is in line for interview, then I think you need to wait a little longer. Try to check other filers from San Diego on the previous months filers threads and then you can have a better idea.
If she has been scheduled for an interview then I would call USCIS and try to speak to a Tier 2 officer to get the date and the copy of the Interview Scheduled letter faxed to you (or re-mailed).

An I-90 is the form you file to replace a green card. Their status has not expired, only their green cards have expired. This is pretty low down on the totem pole of problems. If they had conditional (2 year) green cards then it would be much more of a problem, but they don't.
Given the facts as you have outlined them, and assuming there are no other negative factors (arrests, convictions, drug use, etc.) then there is zero chance of deportation. As I said, their LPR status is still intact, only their documents of that fact are expired.
It's technically a federal misdemeanor for an adult 18 or over not to be in possession of their valid green card, but those cases are not prosecuted.
Obtain new green cards for the two of them and there will be no issue. They should strongly consider filing for US citizenship as soon as their new green cards are in their hands.

You're creating way too much drama for no reason. New York is slow in general and they have not made an exception for you and put you ahead of anyone for whatever reason. If you check your status, which you do, you will see this message: "When scheduling is complete, you will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview. If you have not received the notice within 90 days of the date above, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance."
Now, which part exactly did you not get ??
And the word is s-c-h-e-d-u-l-e. You might wanna learn how to spell things because there is a written test too.

Don't get me wrong, I was freaking out and angry about waiting so long. Just trying to put in perspective that everything is ok.

In English, "up to" 4 weeks mean any time from one day to 4 weeks. Next week is my personal guess, and does not contradict the fact that it can take up to 4 weeks to cash the check. If it still hasn't happened by this week then I would still advise to wait another week.
The OP can make their own choice about what they want to do.

A few questions to determine more definitively what your circumstances are:
1) Did you actually file a G-1145?
If you did not, you would not receive the receipt confirmation. However, even if you did, it's quite possible that the notification failed as those confirmations are not 100% reliable.
2) Did you write a cheque to the USCIS or pay via Money Order?
If it's the former and your cheque does not show up as cleared in your bank account, I would agree that this is an indication of something gone wrong;
however; that said
3) Did you properly fill out your form as well as sign in the required sections?
If your petition is deemed incomplete, then depending on where it was sent from it could have taken:
- up to five business days to arrive at the Dallas/Lewisville Lockbox
- up to two business days to determine that your petition was improperly filed
- up to two business days to process it for a return and
- up to five business days to arrive at your address
As you can see, this all adds up to as many as fourteen business days. When you factor in weekends, then you would naturally expect not to hear anything on your petition for over two weeks
Do you know if any of the above scenarios applies to you? My best guess would be the third one.

Congratulations on your upcoming interview and marriage. I don't know if your requested input only from Silkafii88, so I apologize if you did and please ignore my opinion. Since you already disclosed on your N-400 that you were divorced and you will not be married at the time of your interview, I don't see the point of disclosing future wedding plans, since you will have to disclose on N-445 form before your Oath Ceremony. Unless of course you have a same day Oath Ceremony, then you would not be married until 10 days after and would not really apply.
