  1. Here is a question: My wife finished her studies in France and is now back home in her native country of China. Case is complete and now its almost time to schedule interview and she has her consulate as Paris, France. She can get at tourist visa to go back and wrap up the medical and interview(as well as spend some time with her friends there). But would she be allowed to take the interview in Paris, France if she is no longer a resident there but visits with tourist visa?

Oddly enough the agent at NVC said "yeah sure" but I am not feeling it. Could you give me your comments and advice please?

  2. I've just checked CEAC and my AOS has changed to N/A. I couldn't believe it, so excited as this has meant case complete for others. I can't get through to NVC been trying most of the day today even before the N/A.

Packages sent together - Scan date 6th October

Day 56 of 60 days today called Friday and was told to call back this week.

    God is good.

Chances are your case got completed a few days ago itself and you will know about it once you get a hold of NVC. Now its all about getting that interview appointment setup.

  3. Hi all

    I need help!!!

On October 3 I got a checklist for marriage certificate, and I sent it email in same day. I called last Friday nvc, they said on November 1 there is a new certificate requirement called "Certificate of Non-Conviction" in Jordan. However On November 10 I called nvc and asked about it. They told me it's not required for me because I sent me document before nov1. Until last week, every time I called I was told the only missing was my marriage certificate.

when I asked to speak to superviser she hanged up. THAT'S UNFAIR ???

What can I do?? I don't want to wait another 60 days. I'm lost

Moreover, I have a later from my state senator confirmed that the only thing missing was the marriage certeficate. but it was dated on October 29. So your advice please please

I just called now the rep said they haven't reviewed my case yet.

Any advice if I got a checklist.

How about you get the Certificate of Non-Conviction and submit it as soon as possible to avoid any further delays?

  4. OK, call me dumb if you all know this already, but I didn't realise there were two ways into the CEAC portal.

If you type in ceac.state.gov it will automatically bring you to https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/

    On that page you'll see...

    IMMIGRANT

If you click those options you can then submit your case details and see your status, payment status for AOS/IV etc.

But if you go to https://ceac.state.gov/IVinstead, you get a different portal. You submit your case details there too, but the information is presented differently.

The reason I mention this is that I was watching the first one for the AOS "PAID" to change to "N/A" so I'd know I had gone Case Complete. But when I went Case Complete it didn't change - and still hasn't. It's only when I go through the second portal that I see "N/A" next to my AOS fee.

This probably isn't news to you guys, but I thought it might be useful in some cases.

    Thanks for this info, Trippy!

    Hi Saylin,

Could we please put the https://ceac.state.gov/IV URL up on the wiki so that it helps other users? I was also checking the first one and it never changed. Found out about my case complete through the email 10 days later. Thanks~

Spousal visa interviews aren't conducted in Beijing, they are only conducted in Guangzhou.

    Thanks for the information Ryan~

  5. Got an email from NVC stating that all documentation has been received to process the visa and they will notify when interview has been scheduled. Scan date IV Oct 6th, AOS checklist Oct 9th.

Now I am trying to get them to review an email sent on Nov 4th to change consulate from Paris to Beijing.... :sleepy:

Or I guess my wife has to go to Paris to take her interview...

BTW, the AOS still says PAID at the ceac website and has not changed to N/A.

Just got off the phone with NVC. Case was already completed on Nov 21st with scan date of Oct 6th for IV and AOS checklist Oct 9th.

  7. i'm newbie here, and i'd like to get some advice from you. my scan date was on sep 23 and i just called nvc today, and very frustrated by what they told me. it seems i have some problem for my overseas police certificate. i was living in malta for a couple of years back to 20 years ago, and i provided malta police certificate along with the other docs. but now rep told me my docs has been transfered to supervisor because they have doubt on malta police certificate, but it was issued by malta police headquarter. if this is not proper template, i don't know where should i get it from. this is really ridiculous. could anyone here give me some advice on this? if i call nvc for the supervisor's contact no. will they give it to me? i want my attorney talk to the supervisor, or i just wait a few days to see if they finally can verify it?

Pick Malta at the following link and you can know if you submitted the correct police certificate or not: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html

Why every time i try to call NVC by skype they tell me insufficient credit?

Do you have enough credit on Skype? Restart Skype and try again if you just recently added credit. You can also just log into Gmail and use Google talk from within to call NVC since calls within USA are free with Google talk.

  8. got a checklist for aos after waiting for 90 days...

hell man nvc is so devil i hate it

cant they see we r living apart from our spouse

i wish god spell his magic words and nvc clear all our case and from 60 waiting period it become two weeks

90 plus 60= five months at reviewing our papers and other two for case number and fees

Addon another month for scheduling interview etc too...its just ridiculous to say the least.

  9. I sent it in september n i sent all the original documents..now they r sayin they did not recieve it they r saying now to wait for supervisor review..now what shud i do?? I cant think of nythin..plz need some advise

Did you get confirmation that NVC received your documents in September like an email from them? If not, maybe the mail you sent to them got lost along with all documents in it.

If they are only missing original marriage certificate and they do have the photocopy of it, you can talk to the supervisor about it. Also, you better send in another set of documents right away to avoid further delays.

  10. Ahhhh I'm freaking out.. Still no update on mine either with October 2 scan date... I called yesterday night (Friday) and they gave me the same thing please wait 60 days I'm so tired of hearing this.. I've lost my sleep and any possibility of remaining sane.. It's been 51 days today and nothing.. TheBigO did calculate my prediction for nov 13- November 24 I hope we hear something by Monday!!!!

They review documents 60 days after they are entered into the system. So you will have to wait 9 days and it will be case complete. I am not sure how you expect to hear something on Monday if its not 60 days yet.

A bit of patience will go a long way in this process.

  11. Saylin I have a question. Is it in anyway possible that a guy who is in H1B visa sponsors his wife and she gets the visa in 4-5 months? I just met a friend of mine whose cousin just got married to a guy who is on H1b visa and she is sure that she is going in 5 month. I told her that as far as I know it takes even longer than a green card holder for a spouse of H1b visa. Unless u do some fraud I guess. But I might be wrong.

It must be a visa rather than a green card though.

  12. Someone must have look at my case because the first 3 letter of my case number has been change, I'm not complaining I'm just glad they change it before the case got ship out to the wrong embassy;)

Could you please tell me when you sent them email to change the consulate and how did you find out that the case number has been changed? I sent an email on November 4th to change the consulate...

  13. Hi,

    I have another question about AOS this time;

Did anyone complete AOS based purely on amount of money in your bank, in property and so on - without any income?

Basically my wife (who is petitioning for me) is US citizen but she does not work at the moment, caring for out two kinds, lets say she's a homemaker. I do all the work and in fact I work and get paid in the USA, although I live in Ukraine. We file joint tax return which shows my income there, but I don't think it can be counted toward those AOS guidelines, even though it's US based income and it will keep coming. I don't have any paperwork to show this income as it's my own business and all I have is bank account with money coming in an out.

But we do have enough money in our bank account plus property that is well beyond that 3x poverty line required for those who do not have enough income.

Would that work - showing just the bank accounts and property values without any income from petitioner's side at all? Or can I include my US based income while being applicant (heh, sponsoring myself, am I?).

    Thanks!

Technically, it will not work just showing assets though if the assets are several times the yearly salary required then it may suffice. I would strongly advice showing some kind of home business for your wife until such time the process is completed. The AOS is in case where you lose the ability to support yourself and there must be a US citizen able to take responsibility for you in that case.

  14. How can I not be gussa?? They are not even clear with their directions!! I am scared to receive another checklist in January!! Then I would have to wait till March!! I am prolly gonna end up killing myself lol

    1) They are clear about the 60 days waiting period to review documents.

    2) If you feel the checklist was inappropriate, you can ask for supervisor review. And if everything is in order you should not get another checklist.

  15. I'm self employed subcontracted by a company. I don't get paychecks, All my payments received are through square which is a credit card program used on my iphone. The company I'm subcontracted by doesn't have letterhead paper that they can write a employment letter on, it would just be on a plain paper typed up. What should I do? And why would they need proof of my employment if my income alone isn't enough to be a sponsor?

    Thanks.

Take screenshots from the iPhone, print it out and send it to them with an explanation letter. Get the employment letter on plain paper as well.

  16. Thanks, but it's the same for me, keeps saying busy and drops the call right away. I have tried calling from different numbers, different phones, here and in States, same result.

If not via phone, what is the most "responsive" email option do I get - asknvc@state.gov?

Its ALWAYS busy and you have to keep calling every 1 minute to get a connection. Eventually you will get a connection...I have found it easier to get into the hold by calling when its close to their closing time.

  17. Saylin, you are very helpful, but your words can be mean at times. People are different....maybe they have issues reading or simply do not understand. This may seem like a walk in the park to you because of the time you have spent here, but others, like myself, are struggling to understand the process. It is hell to me I tell ya! I am not perfect...just trying to understand...like others.

I have learned...if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all.

    Again, thanks for your support

Use common sense? Was that even necessary?

    Mia

The suggestion to read the first post and wiki is actually very practical and a lot of people simply DON'T want to take the effort of reading through it. A reminder once in a while is quite appropriate and will be extremely useful if one takes it up.

The comment about common sense is necessary because in some cases that is exactly what is needed and things can go awry if common sense is not used.
