  1. wow thats amazing because me and my wife just come back from cruise vaction on sunday florida was our port i have pakistani passport and i gave my green card to cbp and he asked my any food item u have i said no i have balf bottle of jack daniel and half pack of cigrates he laughed and said good to go even he did not check or bother to see my suitcase i had a big suitcase which i bring stright from my cruise room i was shocked why they r not bothering to check i would say cbp are nice beacuse thats my second entry into US and they always talked nicely even cracked jokes i would say ur husband must have some red flags thats why they are checking him its thier jobs so u

should not worry.... by the way my wife is white american she lived 2 years in middleeast with me cbp sometimes was asked why she going to dubai again and again but its thier jobs so they want to make sure USA safe from possible terrorist attack.

They were bored and we were the only suspicious people on the ship :)

  2. I recently traveled with my husband (originally from Iran) on a cruise using his conditional green card which he recently received. We did previously travel to Caribbean on AP and had no issues returning to USA. Upon disembarkation we were escorted directly from the ship to the secondary inspection and held there for hours. First we were questioned about our luggage contents and extensively searched by supervisors. The only illegal thing the found was a banana which my husband was planning to eat on the way down from the ship. Then my husband was taken away and questioned for a long time. I was questioned for even longer time (both separately). I am US citizen with European descent living in USA most of my life and they could not understand why I travel so much and how I can afford it. They had a problem with me having a spare phone (I have extra old phone with international sim card, so I could call from abroad in case of emergency as my regular plan wouldn't work). Since I previously traveled to Middle East they made a huge issue with it. Asked me if I spoke Arabic and to give them all contacts and names of whom I spoke with etc..Asked If my Family accepts his religion and he is not even a Muslim! It was a horrible experience. First I was treated as criminal then like a possible terrorist. They found out that I have European Union passport and they had problem with it as well. I was asked sooo many questions!!!!!!! Then they copied all of 3 phones we had with us. All data, e-mails, txts, photos. Took copies of our driver licenses. I felt so violated. I have nothing to hide, but them reading my personal e-mails and looking through my photos is not a pleasant feeling! I received letter explaining they can do whatever they want with my phone, so I am assuming the read my e-mails, txts, media accounts and look through photos, Anyone went to similar experience?

  3. I was planning to go to Mexico with my husband on EAD/AP card, but after doing research I found out that you need green card, otherwise visa was needed. AED/AP card allows you to apply for visa from USA, which is proof or USA residence, but does not grant you entrance to Mexico.

"A foreigner of any country, who is a permanent resident of the United States of America or of Canada, may travel to Mexico without a visa or a consular stamp on the passport. The person should travel with the valid passport and the valid US Resident Alien Card (Green Card) or Permanent Resident Card (Canada).Apr 19, 2016"

  4. I agree that they were lucky, but not in the sense that you mean. They were lucky enough to get an adjudicator that knows the policies for those adjusting from a K-1. Some apparently do not know their own USCIS policies, or the medical showed a condition. For a K-1, it is not supposed to matter if the exam is over a year old. They only had to file for AOS within a year of the K-1 medical. Many are not required to get an I-693 at all, ever. They are not supposed to have to follow the same policy for those getting an I-693 within the US and needing to have the medical within a year of adjudication. Some are asked for it anyway, an some are correctly not. >>>

    4. K or V Nonimmigrants Applying for Adjustment [26]

K and V nonimmigrants applying for adjustment of status are not required to repeat the medical examination if the application was filed within one year of the date of the original medical examination, and:

•The medical examination did not reveal a Class A medical condition; or

•The applicant received a conditional waiver in conjunction with the K or V nonimmigrant visa or the change of status to V and the applicant submits evidence of compliance with the waiver terms and conditions.

Yes, we were lucky that we got knowledgeable adjudicator!

  5. Yes, as that is how it is supposed to work for those adjusting from a K-1. Your medical only needed to be done within a year of filing, not within a year of adjudication of your case. See this post about the policies for K-1 adjustment applicants > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/555299-medical-will-expire-before-the-aos-interview/?p=7703568

    Congrats!

    Thank you KayDeeCee!

  6. My husband has been waiting for over a year to hear any news regarding his AOS (we did receive potential interview waiver). His medical was in November 2014 (definitely expired).

Today USCIS online status says: "On July XX, 2016, we approved your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSCXXX. We will mail your approval notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice."

Is it possible we do not have to do another medical? (I keep reading people are getting RFEs for expired medicals.) Is it possible to be approved without updated medical or will they send us letter requiring to forward new medical?

I am so anxious as we have been waiting for so long! Thanks in advance.

  7. hi guys! i had my interview today (finally sfter a total of 1 year and 2 weeks of waiting) .. i was surprised the io only asked my info and my husband's name and birthday. and of course our supporting docs . i brought with me our lease of agreement in our apartment, wedding pics, marriage certificate, my baby's birth certificate. She just asked how many guests were in the wedding. and thats it!

the boooo part was , she gave me an Rfe for an updated medical ?? in other word need to repeat and spend more money!!! has anyone here repeated their medical again due to expiration of the previous one? sigh*

I feel your pain! We are waiting for over 1 year and I know we will have to do another medical, which is not cheap. We are penalized for their delays :(

  8. Congrats! There is a full list of documents you need in the interview letter. Good luck

Wow! great news! Have you been married for more than 18 months? I heard if you are married for more than 18 months, you are eligible to get 10-year GC (without condition). That can be the reason they scheduled an interview although you received potential interview waiver.

We are only married for 1 year and if they scheduled interview in Charlotte we would have to fly there and lose day of work, which my husband does not get. Our local office is 5 minutes from us, but Charlotte is far away. So that is why I am confused. I am guess interview is being waived and that is why it is not in our local office.

  9. Hi All,

Finally our interview is scheduled today. :) It's on July 28.

Is there a topic here explains what paperwork should we take to the interview?

Congrats!!! Finally your case moved. Yeayy!!! I received reply from Congressman's office yesterday and the letter from USCIS stated that our case was forwarded to Charlotte Field Office. That is few states away! My local field office is 10 mins from my home, so I am not sure why there. Also our online status still shows Fingerprint fee received and phone recording says our case is in Missouri. I'm so confused!!!! We did previously received potential interview waiver.

  10. It's hard to say. They try to move people as quickly as possible, but there are times where I was stuck in line for full 2 hours or more. Sometimes can be quick and sometimes could be not enough if too many flights landed about the same time.
