I agree with you. Our lack of agency and certainty is a huge stress. I don't think most people are in the same situation as us, but we are waiting for the citizenship process to finish so we can move immediately afterward. We've sold our house, we've moved in with my parents and we're...waiting. We really want to be moved for two weddings in September, but because we can't know when this is going to wrap up for good, we're going to have to miss out because we can't say with certainty now that we'll make it. On the phone today, USCIS said that until the interview concludes, there's no way of guessing whether my husband will have a July oath or whether it will take a few months. It's all based on the number of local people waiting for their oath and the background checks, some of which will need to be redone if it's been too long since they were checked.

By the way, after hearing about the Saturday interview problem and my initial panic attack freakout, I called and confirmed with USCIS that they are scheduling Sat interviews at some field offices to catch up on the backlog. We're going to go to the field office in person tomorrow and try to confirm with them that they are indeed open for interviews on that day.

As someone pointed out in your previous thread, you can choose to postpone your medical and bring it to your interview instead of sending it with your AOS application. So if you're having trouble getting the medical completed now, just send your AOS application without it. That way you'll at least get the process started and you'll be able to get a SSN when your EAD arrives. Plus you'll be in authorized stay after filing.
I hope it'll all work out! I imagine it's a very stressful situation to be in.

Thank you so much. Yes, my immigration journey is finally over and thank you for your condolences. My husband is probably smiling either from heaven or next to me. We did it, my husband and I accomplished this together. It is ok for me to be sad. I was so moved yesterday at the oath because I also wish my husband were there crying with me and hugging me after I got my citizenship certificate, but I knew he was there, his spirit was. Thanks a lot for your support.

Grid Issue, I also got a notice that my I-751 was transferred to the National Benefits Center and then a week letter I was scheduled for my N-400 interview in San Fernando Valley, CA. However, I'm an August 2017 N-400 filer. If you're December 2017 filer, my guess is they might approve your I-751 first and then you might have a while longer to wait for your N-400 processing. Often times, they'll do them together but it's usually based on the N-400 priority date and if that's ready to be processed rather than the I-751 speeding up the N400. That's just my best guess though.

There are various reasons for getting Citizenship, one of the better ones is to be able to leave and come back with no issues.

Somebody I know who had a grilling after being out for 5 months naturalised because of this.

You will have to ffile anyway so probably not much more of an issue.

Thanks! You'll probably hear soon. We are doing a concurrent I-751, which was filed in Sep 2016, and I had just got a notice last week that the I751 was transferred to the National Center in Missouri, then we got this notice today.

For those of you who've gone in for interviews, what documents did you bring with you and what were you asked for? I've seen lots of people say they were asked about 2017 taxes so we're going to bring the transcripts for that, plus updates of joint bills and things, plus itinerary confirmations for the 2 international trips my husband took over the last year. Anything else?

I think you are right about it being a way to speed up those of us who have been languishing for 20 months now for these ROCs. I called USCIS today and my husband did as well (he's traveling right now so they could only tell me some general knowledge stuff, so he called to speak about our case specifically). They told us that based on our case date that we're at the very end of the projected timeframe so now that it has transferred to NBC we should be hearing something soon. We ended up having to call in today and update our address. We moved in February but for some reason only our N400 updated address. This I-751 was forwarded from our old address. Now that is updated but doesn't sound like it should delay any I-751 stuff so that's good.

Another thing they told us is that the I-751 requires an interview except in the cases where the adjudicator feels they have enough info to approve without one, so I'm curious what's going to happen with ours. I'd think they'd ask for an interview just by nature of it being so long ago we filed, but I don't know. It sounds like others on this thread have been getting approval without the interview. And if we do get an interview, I wonder if we will have to go do that one and then wait and do a separate N400 interview at a later date when the local field office is finally ready to process August 2017 filers.

I think the reason we are seeing movement on the I-751 separately from the N400 is probably because our N400 field office is so slow and isn't ready to schedule us for an interview yet. It seems many people have had N400 and I751 interviews at the same time, but that's because their citizenship interviews came up so quickly and I-751s were taking so long.

Oh wow, @Zombie69 that's a lot to deal with when you've just lost your husband. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Glad that your I-751 was approved at least and you don't need to worry too much about residency issues even if you should need to wait until 5 years. Best of luck to you!

Mine says the same "Case received on Feb 25" notice, but no approval yet. My husband is in line for N-400 though so I'm sure it'll end up being delayed until that interview. Anyone know why we got this Feb 25 update? Does it mean something has changed? It's so strange, nothing since Sept 2016 and then this update. Doesn't really give me any helpful info.

For a little background, we moved and updated our address in February, so husband got moved to a different field office and we're still waiting for n-400 interview schedule at the new office.

    I-751 pending: July 25, 2016.
    N-400 pending: July 31, 2017.

I had my interview today (Tampa). Applied under the three-year rule. I took a six-inch thick folder full of various things such as leases, bank statements, photos, etc. My wife came with me.

The immigration officer called me. We both walked up. She said, “is this your spouse?” I said yes. She said,  “she can wait out here.” I said that the I-751 is pending. She said, “no it’s not; it was approved a month ago.” I had no update on the website. It still shows as last updated on July 25, 2016.

I went to her office, and she didn’t want to see any of my paperwork. Just passport, green card, and driver license. She asked the questions and told me I’d passed. The website hasn’t updated, but I saw her stamp my application “approved,” and she printed a letter stating that I’d passed the test and that I am recommended for approval. I was in and out in fifteen minutes.

It's exciting to see at least one of us Phoenix Lockbox folks moving forward from "In Line for Interview"! I'm at the LA filed office, but this is encouraging nonetheless. I'm really hoping we're not going to have to wait until late spring/early summer for the interviews. I'm just waiting to move so this is stressing me out.

Finally an update for Phoenix, Arizona Lockbox filers. After waiting for 4 months, I went from In line to interview scheduled! I'm stoked, received an online status change last night. Waiting on the mail for the official interview letter. Hopefully the rest got their updates too, if not soon.

I’ll put some info here for now until I find a better place for it:

We just returned from a long day at USCIS.  She was approved after the interview this morning and she took the oath this afternoon.  We decided to do the name change outside USCIS because the interviewer didn’t know how long it would take to finish the change and schedule the oath ceremony.  There was one this afternoon so he offered to place her in it if she wanted to postpone the name change, so she did.

We arrived 15 min before her appointment time (the maximum amount you can be early) and checked in and got a waiting number.  You then go upstairs to the waiting room until your number is called.  She was only in the room about 15-20 minutes before she came out approved.  She said they asked her 6 questions for the 100 list and she got all correct.  They had her write the answer to a verbal question on paper.  (“Name the three branches of the US government”. She then wrote the answer in a complete sentence “The three branches of the US government are...”) and then he checks it.

They only asked us to provide one document, our daughters birth certificate, but they did ask her a lot of questions.  She said it was very conversational and relaxed, like talking to someone instead of formal.  Very easy if you are telling the truth and have studied English and the government.

For the oath ceremony we came back at 1:30 and waited upstairs to be called.  Then the families go to the auditorium while the applicants check in.  The ceremony itself is quite short depending on how many applicants.  Ours was just under an hour for the whole thing.

She walked in in the morning at 8:30 and left around 3:30 a fully naturalized citizen.  Some of the people she sat with had their interviews in early December and had to wait until today to take the oath.  I think we got lucky that our interview was on the same day as an oath ceremony that had open slots available.

Relax, enjoy it, and you will do fine.

    best to you,

    Richard

We are also moving out of the country when this process finishes up and my husband is getting his US citizenship so we have the option to move back one day. My parents and family live here and, while we're going to be settling in the UK, looking forward in time it seems likely I'll need to come back at some point to provide care to my parents and I want my husband to be able to be in the US without the time restriction that he'd have if he abandoned the green card and left before citizenship. Retaining that option was something that's very important to me, so even though it's bringing us some annoying tax hurdles he's getting the citizenship. There are lots of reasons for people to go through this process.

Unfortunately we're looking at another 6 months maybe of waiting.
