  1. Yes, this was for the I751 interview with the two of us and she wanted to see recent photos. She had all our paperwork and evidence like the bank accounts and mortgage and earlier photos, but the officer wanted to confirm an ongoing relationship. It had been 2 years since those documents had been sent in. I happened to have some recent ones printed that were acceptable, so she didn't need to see my phone in the end. Probably best to bring a few recent ones along. They might not ask and we may have passed the I751 without it, but better safe than sorry.

  2. We were also asked for recent photos since it had been a year since our application. She originally asked to see my phone photos, but I had brought a printout of a few photos from the last year and that was fine and went into their file.

Also, be sure they do your I751 at the same time or at the very least the N400 officer is well aware, that the I751 file is there, and that it's in the queue to be scheduled for an interview. Like us, I've been hearing a few others say the officer wasn't scheduled/wasn't able to do their I751 interviews at the same time but then there seems to be a glitch getting those scheduled after the fact.

  3. Apart from us, I've seen a couple instances now of people being told they can't get their I751's done at the same time as the N400. It's frustrating because it seems to very much depend on the officer and how you were scheduled....there's not a lot of consistent policy. I strongly suggest, if you are waiting on a pending I751, to go in for an Infopass and ask if the file is at the local office and if you are being scheduled. They lost ours in a drawer for 6 weeks, the computer meanwhile said it was in Missouri, and there was nothing that was going to trigger the I751 interview to be scheduled. If you don't hear soon, go in and advocate for yourself as much as you can because that's really the only thing that caused progress on our case. Sorry that happened to you!

  4. Hello, my husband's oath ceremony is coming up soon and we're thinking ahead to the passport. He may travel to the UK for an extended time after receiving his naturalization certificate and I know you can apply for a US passport at a US consulate abroad. The process seems pretty straightforward and we're thinking that might work well. We know you're only meant to enter the US with a US passport and that's fine. But is there any issue with him leaving the US, traveling out with his UK passport as his ID at the airport, not a US one?

However, I hope that if they get their way and change our eligibility for those programs, they will not be able to make it retroactive - so we'd have to go off ACA if we are still LPRs and not citizens, but what we did when we did legally qualify for those programs wouldn't hurt us or our chances for citizenship.

This is what was concerning me about it too. It's one thing to change what qualifies as a public charge and say "From X date on, you can't qualify for this benefit if you're an LPR" and people have time to adjust and still be ok, but if it's retroactive that could affect a lot of us. Hopefully that was a mistake. Having health insurance was a legal requirement for the last few years.

  7. After all these processes wrap up, I'm considering writing to the ombudsman to alert them to this happening. Not sure they'll do anything, but they should know there've been several instances of ROC files sitting at the local office and never going to the interview stage while their computers say it's in Missouri. Maybe they'll decide to look into it.

  8. My husband and I just got back from the I-751 interview. He had his N400 interview way back on June 23, but because the I751 one wasn't done at the time we just finalized it today. It was approved! Note to anyone else going in - we were asked to show photos of us on our phones. I had printed some new photos so I offered that up, which was accepted which I thought was better than having to scroll through all my random phone photos.

She said she was entering it into the system today, which should trigger one more background check and then he'll be scheduled for his oath. Anticipating getting a status change and letter within the next couple weeks so will update at that time. Hoping for August 24!

  9. I second getting an InfoPass appointment and have your fiance bring those photos + letter of intent (not sure if they'd take them there, but can't hurt to have them when he talks to someone). It's hard to say without actually having received a denial in hand, especially since they told you three different things. I'm not sure I'd even trust that that's correct until it's a firm letter.

  10. We didn't specifically ask whether they had the file at the local office. When we went there, we were under the impression that our file was still at the NVC in Missouri because that's what the USCIS phone officers had told us was showing up on their computer and we were trying to get confirmation of whether it really was a possibility we'd have to wait so many more months for it. We just went in and explained what was going on - that my husband had had his N400 interview in June, that he'd passed but we had been told that the I751 was still pending and that we wanted to check on that because others we had talked to had all had their N400s and I751s done together and we thought ours would have been sent to the field office. The officer we had at the infopass looked over our items and said that it didn't seem right, and that the computer was saying the two interviews were bundled together but hadn't actually happened that way in June. Of her own initiative she went in the back and found our file and handed it to the person doing the interview scheduling. We'd been told so many different things previously and I really think it was the extra initiative of the one officer that she thought it seemed wrong and went to investigate. But it's possible that if ours was actually at the local office the same thing may have happened to you. Or maybe not and it really is at NVC, but it's worth asking. The standard practice that the IOs are trained on is to do N400 and I751 together, and generally the I751s are transferred to the field office prior to your interview. Good luck!

  11. Good news, we've received the interview notice for the ROC, which will be on August 1! My husband had his N400 interview on June 23 and passed, but the ROC didn't happen at that time and the file got lost until it was found at our infopass appt on July 11. Hopefully all goes smoothly from here and we don't have any more hold ups, especially between the ROC approval and scheduling the oath. I don't think I can take it if there's another snag and we have to wait weeks and go back in again to try to sort it out.

  12. Hi @NC1987, I spoke too soon the other day. So we received this letter about our "out of processing time" eservice request for the ROC that said it was pending scheduling an interview and to wait 60 days, which wasn't what we'd been told by an officer at our Infopass appt. Well, the Infopass info was correct because yesterday we received an interview notice for the ROC for Aug 1. I wanted to respond because it sounds like you're experiencing exactly what we experienced. So the USCIS call center, even the Tier 2 officer, told us that our ROC file was in Missouri at the NVC and that we'd just have to wait which could take 10-15 months. This seemed frustrating and a bit off to me, so we scheduled that Infopass appt where the officer went into the back room, dug around, and found our ROC file. It was at the local office the whole time, but somehow wasn't logged in their computer system that way and the note said we'd had ROC and N400 interviews set up together (we were supposed to have them together, but they ended up not doing the ROC at the N400 interview), which just wasn't true. So there was nothing in the system that would have fixed the issue if we hadn't gone there in person and if the officer hadn't located our file. If this seems to be the case for you, you might want to schedule an Infopass at your field office and see if they can double check if your ROC file is actually there.

  13. It sounds like so many of us are encountering issues. We were told at our last infopass on July 11 that the officer had handed our ROC to the person doing the interview scheduling and that it would be scheduled the following day, then we would be getting a letter about it and would have an interview to finally wrap up the ROC on Aug 2 or 3. Well...our status never changed and we haven't received a letter yet. Then we got a letter from our eservice inquiry, which we submitted at the start of July separate from the infopass saying that our ROC was waiting to be scheduled for an interview and we'd get a notice within 60 days. From others' stories on here, sounds like their standard line is now "Wait 30-60 days and check back".

  14. I think you're right. It was a combo of the officer not being aware of what should have happened at my husband's N400 interview and then everyone telling us that his application was still in Missouri and that we would just have to wait until whenever it came up to process. Sadly, that was the worst advice because it was wrong in their system and we could have waited forever and nothing would have changed. Anyone else who has a similar situation, the best thing to do is to educate yourself on policy and process, keep going in to speak with the local office and advocate for yourself using that knowledge. It's good to know that it really is at the local field office after being in Missouri and I'm so happy it's back on track, but a needless delay that could have ended up a lot worse.

  15. Hi, just wanted to update here too because I had posted previously about our I751 being transferred to Missouri. Here's the latest:

We had an Info Pass appointment yesterday to get another extension stamp in my husband's passport. We brought all our documents, including the form we were given after his citizenship interview a few weeks ago, and asked again about what is happening with our I751. The officer we got for our InfoPass was really nice and helpful. She looked over everything and said that something didn't seem right. She went into the back office for a long time and when she came out she said she had located our I751 application. It's at the local field office and has been this whole time. Meanwhile, we'd been told it was in Missouri at the NVC everytime we callled the helpline because that's what it said on their computers. For whatever reason, it says our interviews had been bundled together, but they weren't. Anyway, an awesome result because she was able to get us going for scheduling another interview for the I751, which should happen in early August. Assuming all goes well and it's finally approved, my husband can get schedule for his oath.

So this has delayed us by about a month, but thankfully not the 15+ months we were told could be a possibility.

I can see light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully we won't have any more issues. So looking forward to this all being finished!
