It'd most likely be recognized in the US, therefore you are too married for a K-1 visa.

I think it's a matter of perception. Many times a K-1 has been denied because USCIS thought that a couple were "too married" for a K-1. An example is a Vietnamese engagement party. Not married but "married" enough to be denied.

Well when I entered on K1 we then had to marry in a state where same sex marriage was recognized or it would not count. (that was right after DOMA was out, but before gay marriage was nation wide). So we had to marry in California then. I would guess that would be something similar. The marriage in the Philippines would just count as a ceremony, nothing legal.

  2. We received an RFE a few weeks ago, while we thought we had provided plenty of evidences I guess they wanted more. We hurried to gather everything we could think of to add and sent it out.

I was expecting a reception receipt this week and instead my status just changed to 'New card is being produced'. We thought the RFE(first one we got in the whole process) would have added a few months, so it was a big(and pleasant) surprise! :)

  3. Hi,

I'm a month ahead of you and Anchorage is my local office as well. We did our biometrics on May 12. We only received the letter, no other form of communication (and we signed up for email and text notifications). Of course our status hasn't changed at all on the site either, so their electronic notifications aren't all that reliable.

I'd recommend calling them and getting your new address into the system ASAP. Things have moved rather quickly for us. We got our interview appointment scheduled the same week we had our biometrics done. Since I'm a month ahead of you, you could very well be looking at a biometrics appointment in just a few weeks with a possible interview a few weeks after that (if it's similar to our timeline).

Thanks for the info. My address has been changed in the system last week, I'm however not sure if the appt. letter has been sent before I did. I called and they didn't want to do much about it until it has been 30 days that they have received the application. My issue is that we don't get mail delivered to our house and I wasn't sure if I could put the PO box address. So I put in the home address but in the front letter indicated that they have to send letters to my PO address, but they didn't. I only got paper receipt for the employment authorization at my PO address. I changed address to PO box, hopefully on time, if not next week I'll call again to chase this up

Is there a way to contact Anchorage directly? I'm not finding a phone number. Thanks :)

  4. For Canada, you can get a police certificate through the mail, as long as you get your fingerprints officially taken at a police station where you currently live:

    http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm

The issue with doing this with paper fingerprints is that the process time is many months, like up to 5 months. I was in Australia and needed one, you can't do the digital fingerprints when out of canada with rcmp, best way if out of the country is to deal with a 3rd party approved by the rcmp to do this. first go get you fingerprints taken at a local police station with the correct form for the rcmp, and send it out to the 3rd party , they deal with the rcmp, and you can get the 3 days processing time for digital prints. I did this and it was very fast , no troubles at all. I dealt with www.fingerscan.ca but there is others
