pob260 got a reaction from li_09 in Visitor Visa or I-30 (Petition for Alien Relative). Which first??
If I were you ..I would have applied for I 130 like yesterday. Like the other posters have mentioned your chances of getting a tourist visa are slim. ( No harm in trying though)
With that said your only recourse is to file I 130. Once you become naturalized you can upgrade your petition from F2A to IR1/CR1 and you won't have to wait for the visa bulletin to be current.
    Good Luck.

Research has shown that it's the uncertainty of a situation which creates a lot stress. It's one of the reasons commuting to a big city for work is so stressful to your well-being because you can not predict how bad the traffic is going to be.
We adapt much better when we know the outcome even if that outcome is a bad one. So researchers have shown that amputees often deal with their situation better once the decision is final than in the months before when the limb might or might not have been saved.
I think the stress of the immigration system would be less if people could just know the exact number of days it would take even if that was longer than they would like. So if it was possible to say "Right, it's going to take 9 months to get the interview" - that's a long time but you would have a specific goal and could stop worrying about when something was going to happen. It's the uncertainty combined with the unfairness with the way the cases get dealt with which means that sometimes people who filed months after you get dealt with before you. That mixture is enough to drive most normal people completely crazy.

from Saylins FAQ (post 1 and 2) also check my timeline..i mailed after it cleared my bank account
Do I have to wait for NVC to email me instructions before mailing packages?
NO. If you wait on NVC for this, it can take WEEKS to get anything from them. As long as the respective bill has been paid in the payment portal, you can send in your package.
Members have had luck sending the packages as soon as they pay the bills (since the bar-coded cover sheet becomes available after paying). If you're not going to wait for it to appear as PAID in the portal, at least wait until the money has cleared the bank account.
What address do I send the AOS and IV packages?
You will find their addresses on their respective bar-coded cover sheets, which are printed off the payment portal.

    For the AOS package:
barcode cover (receipt payment fee)---- Not the receipt payment but Document Cover Letter (see attached pic) form I-864 -- whats the date on the form on the top right IRS tax 2013,2012,2011 ----- It should be 2012,2011,2010 ( since you are submitting before month April 15) petitioner's employment letter Did you get IRS transcript or are you sending tax return. You need to include W2/paystubs as well if its tax return.
    Fot the IV package:
2 photo passport (very important 2x2 inches!) photocopy of biografy page of my passport birth certificate ( for Italy better ESTRATTO DI NASCITA):If original in Italian certified English translation is needed marriage certificate : If original in Italian certified English translation is needed police certificate ( for Italy CASELLARIO GIUDIZIALE E CARICHI PENDENTI) : If original in Italian certified English translation is needed Click select on top for IV and the print document cover sheet
Also Document Cover Letter + any other proof of relationship document if you have [ wedding invitation card, boarding pass/tickets for visits, phone calls, etc.]

Time frame to review IV and AOS has been 20 - 25 business days . So your files should be reviewed sometime Feb 1 to Feb 15. ( 20-25 business days).
Regarding Police Certificate , its country specific. Some country will have to send in theirs during NVC while others during interview stage. I would still get one if possible so that in case it is needed.
    Good Luck

You are paying higher taxes by not filing MFJ. Get in touch with a good tax professional or one of these guys
    http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Acceptance-Agent-Program
There are provision that your wife can certify her passport at the embassy abroad and then based on that you can file W7 for your wife and kids.
And please also amend your return for the past years when you get your ITIN. Am sure you will be happy with that big refund on your amended return,

In order to file married filing separate or married filing jointly ; you will need to have a SSN or ITIN number for your wife. Since she does not have one you will have to get her an ITIN number ( you will file W7 + required paperwork with your taxes). Since you will have to paper file , this process takes some time (2-4 months).
What I did was to file MFS with "NRA" written on her SSN field. It would have to be paper filed though. I will amend my return once my spouse gets here.
Do not file as Single your embassy could ask your wife why did he file single when he was married. ( unlikely ..but possible).
    Good Luck

You'd pay the same way you paid your AOS fee.
What the email is trying to say is to NOT send in any check/Money order to NVC as it could delay the process but to rather use the payment portal.
If your IV fees are available to pay, go ahead and pay it and get your IV package ready.
    Good Luck
You should see Print Document Cover Sheet in your payment portal. You need to print that and include it on top of your package. There are separate document cover sheet for AOS and IV.

I got mine today as well. my CC was on JAN06. From what I've heard and read, my embassy doesn't reschedule to an earlier date. That being said if you make a request for an earlier date and somehow someone cancels their appointment they could ask you to come in. very slim chance but a chance nonetheless.
Hope we get our IL date next week.
    Good Luck

I did leave mine blank as per the instruction for I 864.
    Some observations
The checklists other vj'ers have been getting for the empty space are :
leaving the field blank instead of putting "0" for the past 3 year income Part 3 9.Place of residence(if different from mailing address) [i 864EZ] This should not be left empty even if the residence and mailing is the same Easy to miss fields are:
Part 4 12. I am currently on active duty in the US armed service.
Part 6 10. My current Annual Household Income
Part 8 Sponsors Contract ( Print Sponsor Name and Signature Fields).

Congrats Jematt on your IL date. was pleasantly surprised and happy for you. Did you get the email for case complete? How long after was the IL date? Just trying to figure out if there is a pattern...
Savage: Even though I did have enough income on two of the three years I used a joint sponsor. I think getting a joint sponsor would go a long way in erasing whatever doubts that they may have with your AOS.
I had sticky notes on the I864 on the sections where I thought they could get lost with very brief notes saying where the figures came from or to see attached copy etc.
    Good Luck

NVC emailed me a checklist to find a joint sponsor. I mailed all the necessary joint sponsor forms and documents the same week I received the checklist. Now I Just called the NVC and operator told me that its Case Completed on 11/27/13 and waiting to be schedule for interview, but she said they haven't review the joint sponsor document yet. What is going to happen now? Re read the checklist. Sometimes NVC tells to bring the new documents to the embassy during interview. Maybe that's what happened in your case.
