If you are not yet a resident of the US (i.e. have a green card) you must be a resident elsewhere for tax purposes. I also worked in Canada Jan to Aug (several years ago) and did not get my status adjusted (i.e. a Green Card with permanent resident status) until the following year. I filed my Canadian taxes as a deemed resident ....I wasn't allowed to file as a US resident (as I didn't have status yet), so Canadian non-resident is also incorrect. Deemed resident is valid with a US address, and applies a you were not a permanent resident elsewhere.
Edit: If you file as a non-resident for the first time, you are required to provide the end date for your Canadian status, and the start date of your residence elsewhere. A K1 visa does not fit that requirement.

Could someone please update my information? I received my interview letter on Jan 9. My interview was on Feb 27. My approval notice was issued on Feb 28. On March 2, I received notification of my ceremony, and today, March 8, I had my oath ceremony. I am officially an American!!!
Good luck to everyone on their journey.

Thanks for the congrats! It was a long journey.
Yes, I still have a Canadian passport, which I will use to enter Canada. And yes, they always confiscate the green card (I don't even have an expired old one, as that was also taken when I got my extension).
From what I can see on the CBP site, a Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) card is sufficient for re-entry into the US via a land crossing. My card, however, only lists my Canadian citizenship as well as my maiden name, as the replacement card can take a couple of weeks. The "system" will have updated information after I go in on Monday (so far, my name is updated, but the agent didn't update the citizenship because he was clueless), but on face, the card will be incorrect.
I believe that if I travel with my Canadian passport, my TTP card, my citizenship certificate and copies of my marriage license, I meet all the requirements provided on the CBP site, but I wonder if anyone has experience.

I got a last minute invitation into a citizenship ceremony today, and am now a citizen. The problem is that I have travel plans to Canada (land crossing at Windsor) on Tuesday morning. I have a Global Entry card (like a Nexxus), but no time to get a passport. Has anyone tried entering back into the US with only a citizenship certificate and a Nexxus/Global Entry?

Had my interview this morning in Orlando. Waited over 40 minutes after an 8:40 appointment time as they were already backed up, but went very well. Have to wait for the letter for the oath ceremony for confirmation, but so relieved that is over.
Question for those that have interviewed...I swear I don't remember 10 questions being asked. If you answer the first 6 correctly (which is all you need) do they stop then, or keep going?

whew, thanks!

Interview was yesterday, just received the following update to my case status. Can anybody who’s already had their oath ceremony scheduled speak to whether this “estimated wait time” is accurate for this particular stage of the process? I’m in Sacramento and I can’t believe California’s capital city wouldn’t have enough people naturalizing to warrant doing a ceremony more than once every 4 months...
February 6, 2019
We approved your application
Your final step to becoming a citizen is to attend your naturalization ceremony
We will mail you a letter when we schedule your naturalization ceremony.
Estimated wait time:
4 months
You can search for upcoming ceremonies https://www.cacd.uscourts.gov/clerk-services/naturalization-ceremony-locations-and-schedule. I don't think that it is a lack of ceremonies, but quite likely that they can only accommodate so many and they are full. Congratulations!

So I see that I need to present my GC at my citizenship interview. Can anyone tell me...will it be kept or returned to me? I will be travelling out of the country between the interview and any possible oath ceremony, so will need proof of PR to return.

I knew the shutdown wouldn't affect processing, but wasn't sure about notifications, so checked online. My interview is scheduled (yay)! No notification by text or email though...I was very surprised as the timeline for Orlando was sitting at 13 months, so unless there is a 3 month wait for oath, they may be picking up some speed!
Could someone update for me? Applied June 6, letter for interview was Jan 9, and my interview in Orlando is scheduled for Feb 27.

Just because you don't have to pay duty, doesn't mean there is no cost, just FYI. When I went to register my vehicle in Florida (for tags), there was an inspection, and I had to pay tax based on the current market value of the vehicle. I believe this may vary by state, but it compensates the state tax coffers for "importing" a vehicle from out of state. State-to-state taxes are offset through an internal process, but you may have to pay a percentage if the original state charges lower taxes, and if it was imported...
The good news for me was that they let me state what the value of my vehicle was, (within reason).

Thanks. I'm generally fine with the history and most of the civics (history in school was very similar in Canada) but I often struggle with the Presidents, and multiple choice helped. Memory work it is

Hi all,
Simple question I hope. The practice tests for the interview are all multiple choice. Can anyone tell me if the questions at the interview are oral, and if so, are they still multiple choice? The booklet handed out has questions with the correct answer but I can't see the exact exam format in it.

it's the same place when you had your AOS interview, unless you moved to another states then that would be a different location.
ASC is different than USCIS field office. ASC is only for biometrics appointment where in the USCIS field office is for interview and oath location.
As not everyone has undergone interviews (I had none for AOS or ROC), you can search by your zip code here https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/field-offices
For me, the interviews are done in the same location as InfoPasses.

Hello everyone,
I'm ready to file my form, but there's a question:
"What is your USCIS Online Account Number?
You can find your USCIS Online Account Number by signing in to your account and going to your profile page."
I do not see any account number.
Can anyone please help me with this>?
I didn't either. Leave it blank, or "I don't have one". They will assign one to you.

Just a minor update for me, if you could? My NOA date is missing in the chart...it is 06/06 (same as application date and payment cashed date). Thanks.

Perfect timing, your response. I was just thinking about that. Did you already have your biometrics letter with an appointment date/time, or did you just walk in when you received your NOA? We should have already received our biometrics appointment letter, but no luck. And we're on the verge of moving and I don't want to change my mailing address until I get the biometrics letter.
I have seen people turned away without a biometric letter. I don't think the NOA is sufficient, but offices may vary. The guy ahead of me didn't have a letter, and was still meeting with an agent long after I'd been in and gone. Just an opinion, of course.

Did my biometrics today as a walk-in. 06/19

Interesting. I dont see this tab. for my other cases, I have Case Status and Case History tabs, but no Docs tab. Are you saying that for N400, it should have Case Status, Case History and Docs tab?
I believe this is only available if you filed online. Did you file the N400 online? It was not present for my other cases either, only this one, and only after my online N400 was accepted (overnight)

Hello Pau Pau,
I filed my N400 online. I thought the additional section is for any further explanation or additional evidence for some parts in the application. So, if I haven’t submitted these documents now is it going to delay the process. My estimated wait time is showing 29 days as of right now.
I was trying to get my biometric done before I go out of the country for a vacation. Any idea if rescheduling biometric delay the process.
There were two sections in the online application - the required and the additional. Tax records were in the required section for me, I thought. However, it is possible that the "required" documents vary depending on the nature of your application - I am applying under the 3 year rule based on marriage, and the tax returns show the mandatory 3 years married to a US citizen eligibility is met. I had to upload several documents to support this eligibility (spouse's passport, marriage licence, divorce decree (if applicable), evidence of marriage like banking and insurance). If my memory serves, I could not continue to the next section without uploading these.

Which Lockbox did you send your application to? I'll update our tracker. And yes, getting transcripts from IRS is easy! I just received mine in the mail and I will upload it in my application later.
no, I meant I filed taxes by mail (Turbo Tax does NOT accommodate foreign pensions properly, and so cannot file electronically), and that is why Turbo Tax didn't feel like enough for me ;-)
IRS transcripts are available online. Create an IRS account and download instantly.

Hello everyone.... i just got approved for my hreen card and now my intent is to go ahead and apply for my citizenship and i want to do it online... i have a question for N400 evidence... do i really need to have the tax copies/transcripts from the IRS site? We did ours with turbo tax and we already have all copies saved... can i just use that? Thank you so much for your help
getting from the IRS site was so easy. They were nice small files...for me, since I had to file by mail, it was a better guarantee that it was actually filed

Currency exchange. Buy bank draft in US Dollars or Canadian
in Canada

I would do the draft in US dollars, just for convenience. If you do Canadian, they will do the conversion (at their rate), but it just makes it easier in the US.
I was also unable to actually open my account until I had an SSN.
