  1. I know, isn't it just grand, being separated from the ones you love............... missing their birthday (my husbands is tomorrow, and, I really didn't want to bake him a cake and prepare a candle light dinner out on the deck with white lights in the trees)....

Hey folks, it could be worse - you could be stuck in Nebraska with me. Not that it would be bad visiting with me, sometimes I can be funny, but, we would all probably have beards as long as RIP Vans by the time we "get outta Nebraska free"..................

And truly, how petty that we should be jealous, bitter, envious, jaded, and the such, when people filed in February and already have their petition sent to NVC, I mean, seriously folks, we deserve 39 lashes with a wet noodle............

Yeah, I know, I'm trying to get through it, and, I'm sorry for all of you are separated from your loved ones and have been so for longer than I have, and, I haven't been separated from my husband all that long, but in my estimation, it's too darn long!!

Nebraska?? Did someone say Nebraska?? I didn't think we were in Kansas anymore...

To be honest, I'm getting used to talking with my wife on the phone all the time. Maybe we should just keep it this way. We don't need to see each other everyday, do we?? I have tons of money to visit her a couple times a year. Ya know, this would be perfect for raising a child!!! The child could stay with one of us for 3 or 4 months at a time :jest:

Let us all just be honest with ourselves. We are in no hurry, are we?? We need to take it easy in this life and not hurry anything. "One thing at a time" they always say.

I wish you all the best of luck and hope this takes years for you all

  2. Actually, it can also be looked at in just the opposite way. It can show that you are financially supporting your spouse, not buy him/her. Don't forget, finance is also a big issue since the state does not want to be supporting the immigrant in the future.

I would not tell anyone you are sending money, and paying her bills. Would you do the same with an American women ? what do think this looks like, looks like you buying a wife.

  3. joshuah57: I'm using TaxAct to do my tax return, when you choose: Check here if your spouse is a Nonresident Alien and is not required to have an SSN or ITIN - it did automatically put NRA in your tax form, but it put it in wrong field, in the Full name of your spouse, not in the Spouse's SSN field, and it wont put the name of your spouse in your tax when filing separately. I was wondering if you've experienced any of that? or it just me? Thanks.

Sorry I took so long to reply. What you see is correct. Since you are not filing jointly, the name and social security number do not need to be entered in that top section. If you look at the filing status, it says to enter social number above and full name here. Since there is not social number and the spouse is a nonresident alien, you just enter NRA (or in this case, TaxAct does it for you).

  4. I just finished doing my taxes for 2014. I filed married filing separately just like it has been said many times on here. I plan on amending my return when she gets here. For those who do their own taxes or are thinking of doing their own taxes, it is VERY easy to do this. I did use TaxAct to do my taxes. Everything is filled out completely normal except you don't fill nothing in for your spouse's SSN or ITIN and then you check the box for married filing separately. TaxAct even asks if the spouse is a nonresident alien and it automatically put NRA in the SSN/ITIN line. I would think other software like TurboTax would also do the same. You will not be able to E-file though. You will have to mail in your papers.

I do have a question of my own though. I asked my wife if she has any papers showing what she made last year. She didn't keep any documents since she doesn't really pay any taxes since she makes so little and is going to school in Germany. For those that amended later or include spouse's income on their taxes, what amounts did you use? Do you have to convert it to American dollars? If you did, did you use the current exchange rate or the exchange rate then? Do other countries have an equivalent to the USA's W-2?

Oh, and one more thing....For those who plan on amending their returns, MAKE SURE you print or have extra copies of your taxes. You will need them when you redo your taxes and compare the differences when doing your amended return (form 1040X).

  5. I did call the USCIS today and they told me just as you said. However, they did not give me an address to send the paper to. I did a search and I found a list of P.O. Boxes for the Nebraska Service Center. I am sending it to P.O. 87130 since it says that is what they use for I-130's. I enclosed a letter explaining the error, an I-130 with the correct birthdate, and a copy of my birth certificate. I figure I would rather be safe than sorry. Hopefully it should all be good now.

  6. I know this is early yet as we do not even have our NOA2 yet, but I've seen other talk about past addresses on the DS-260. When I mentioned to my wife that it asks for addresses all the way back to when she was 16, she was very surprised. She told me she doesn't even think she has all the addresses anymore. How complete should the addresses be? If she does not know a specific address (house or apartment), can she just put the city? I'm not even sure I could remember all the addresses since I was 16. That is 20+ years worth for both of us.

  7. Welcome to our little group. I have been following the progress of the 29 users in this thread that have filed and/or received their NOA1 in October. Here's the breakdown:

    • 10 are still waiting patiently for NOA2
    • 5 are between USCIS and NVC
    • 10 are waiting for NVC case numbers
    • 4 are in the NVC process
The above figures are based on user timelines, signatures or comments on this thread. I don't think it is completely up to date, but it's probably a pretty good picture of where we are at.

You got through USCIS pretty quick and seem to be moving nicely through NVC. Best of luck that the rest of your journey goes well. :star:

Waiting very patiently for NOA2 :)

  8. I am also looking for information like this. My wife is Romanian and is still living in Germany and we are in the USCIS stage for the CR1 visa. We were married in June and have not changed her name or registered anything yet. Would it be easiest to change her name before we get the visa? We will be in Romania for 4 days in January. Will that be enough time for registering the marriage and getting a new passport with her new name? If they can't complete the passport in that time, can they send it to her or can she get it at an embassy or consulate in Germany? Or should we wait till she is here? Is it hard to change her name here when her Romanian passport has a different name? I hope someone can help.

  9. I have petitioned for a CR1 visa in October for my wife. She is a Romanian citizen living in Frankfurt, Germany. This site has be a HUGE help in preparing the documents so far and researching what will be needed in the future. I want to thank everyone so far for all the help. You have not only been helpful with all of my questions, but you have all been great support as many of you are also going through long periods of time as we wait to be with our loved ones.

I do have one question regarding my profile though. On the left side, I have it set for Romania. Is that correct or would I put Germany in my case?

  10. Does anyone else have anything to add? Has anyone had experience with this with their or their beneficiary's country? I did find this information on the state's website: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/RO.html. It does sound like there is 2 different kinds of birth certificates there too.

    "

    Birth Certificate

Available. (Certificat de Nastere) Document is issued by the Office of Vital Statistics (Oficiul Starii Civile) of the local Mayor's Office.

This certificate is the sole legal proof of the date and place of birth of an applicant. As many copies as desired may be made thereof and if authenticated by a Notary (Notari Public), they are acceptable by Romanian authorities. The original birth certificate is issued free of charge. There is a fee for copying and authenticating."

  11. Looking ahead to the packets that will be sent, I see there are times that "original" documents have to be sent. My wife has an "original" birth certificate, but she is hesitant to send it for fear of loss since it is very hard to replace. In fact, she can only get the "original" by going to the city where she was born. Not so easy to do as she is living in Germany. What she can get is an official copy through offices in Romania. Would that be considered "original" for this case? For example, my birth certificate is technically a "copy" since my town of birth holds the "original". They copy it to an official certificate with a stamp and signature. Is that not what she would get when she would receive an official copy?

If we do have to send the "original", do we get it back at the interview? What kind of time period would they have it? Has there been cases where they have lost the documentation?

  12. Any last minute October filers?

Update to website showing status: I called the USCIS number today and asked since my case is still not showing online. She told me exactly as mentioned before in this thread. Until it is 30-45 days after you receive your NOA1, you just have to sit tight. Hopefully they just haven't gotten so far as to add it to the system yet, but it is sitting on a desk somewhere at the NSC.
