To add to the addendum for the trips. I also took our list, but the officer did not ask for it. He just asked have you taken any trips outside since you applied? And, total number of trips. Attaching the template I used.

N-400-Attachment-Blank Template for additional information for Travel outside the US.doc

Great!     I've just downloaded it and will be using it!

Thanks guys. From what we saw yesterday, if your appointment is at 2:15, it might be tricky to get the same day appointment. The ceremony was to start at 2:30, for which they'd bring the carts out at 2:15 (so we were told). But they did not bring the carts out until 2:45ish and the ceremony didn't start until 3. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

I do feel bad for a couple of folks who were there for interviews. Their interviews had to be rescheduled at the last min. Systems had not been updated. They were told, they'd get a notification for when the new interviews would be later on. 😥

Oh, so I may have more than 15 minutes (in fact 45 minutes) for my visa officer to interview me in order to have the same day ceremony (unless the system goes down again)!

Yeah probably not likely to get same day, but they do at least 2 oaths a day Mon-Thurs as far as I can tell so I don’t think you’ll be waiting too long. My actual interview only took about 5 minutes, but I sat in there with the officer chatting for 40 minutes while she tried to get her computer to work! So maybe you’ll have some luck there 🙂

One thing I did which helped speed things up was print an addendum (for part 9.3 on the form) with the 2 trips id taken since my application was sent. She just added it to the file instead of having to hand write all the information out, so that saved some time.

Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

Great time saving tip!     I'll fill out the Part 9.3 on the N-400 application since I've traveled outside of the country about 5 times!

I’ve never posted here but I checked back frequently during my journey, so I wanted to post to give back and maybe help someone else looking for information.

I got my citizenship yesterday (10/10/18) in the Tukwila office. I applied in July 2017 based on the 3 year marriage eligibility. I did my biometrics in August 2017. My appointment was at 10:50am, and I took the oath at 2:30pm that day.

The interview was very straightforward and they didn’t ask to see any of my documentation aside from my greencard (because you have to surrender it) and my ID. The officer was friendly and personable.

They were having computer issues which I think caused a lot of delay, I waited about 1.5 - 2 hours to be called in and almost couldn’t be processed because their system went down, but it worked out in the end.

Good luck to everyone, and maybe bring a book while you wait because I had no cell service in the waiting area!

Congrats!     I have my interview on Oct 22, but my appointment time is 2:15pm!   I'm not sure if I can attend an oath ceremony unless my officer finishes my interview in 15 minutes!

    Hey, guys!

I had my interview and my oath ceremony today. It went really well, and everyone was very kind.

The only awkward thing was watching a video during the ceremony starring the Great Orange Jerk (also a music video of the lame song they play at his rallies). Besides that, it was short and sweet. The keynote speaker was really cool, and stressed that we are not second class citizens and how hard our journey was to get to this point.

So, yeah, the Seattle office is really great even though it’s painfully backlogged.

Hang in there, you will make it. ❤️

Congrats!   You mean I'll need to watch a video by Mr. T!!??  😱😱😱

What time was your ceremony? @GreatDane and I were in the same ceremony today at 2:30.

CONGRATULATIONS all of Seattle folks who have/are getting through. Now don't forget to vote; apply for passport, enhanced drivers licenceb ssn updates; workplace updates etc...

To me the best part was when the officer referred to President Obama's quote instead of you know whose...🤣🤣🤣

Congrats! 👍   I hope I have the same officer when I have my interview on Oct 22!

Looks good, AC. That looks very similar to what we took to the interview. The IO only wanted to see the 2017 tax transcript which he scanned and put into the file.

Congrats on buying a house. We did the same in the summer of 2016. It really did solidify the relationship some. That and getting a dog 6 days later.

Yes, I think the most important document is the 2017 tax transcript!  :joy:

Buying a house and getting a dog 6 days later!?  :wow:  You've been busy!

I brought originals of documents I'd sent with my I-751 application back in November 2016 and updates of said documents from December 2016 to August 2018.  I didn't want to risk getting a "decision cannot be made" cause of a document they wanted and I didn't bring with me to the interview.  Turned out to be a good thing because the IO asked to see the January 2018 - August 2018 bank statements and made copies of them.

I'll bring my Jan-Sept, 18 bank statements then (since it's easy to print them out)!

When my wife went to her N-400 interview, we brought all the documents she had originally submitted (in case they lost a document),

as well as updated bills in both our names.  Turns out, all the officer wanted for the I-751 part of the interview was the newer bills.

I'm bringing my utility bill statement!

Can I ask all of you that have been to your interviews how you organised the documents?

Did you have a folder that you provided the officer with everything including originals like birth certificates? Or did you have two folders - one with your originals (passport, greencard, birth cert) and the second with your evidence such as bills, mortgage etc. I’m trying to figure out how to organise my documents easily and the most efficient way of doing that. Did you also make copies of your original documents you brought.

I have managed to put all my documents (N-400 and I-751 applications and updated supporting documents) in one folder (so far)!

I made a copy of my old joint bank statement in 2016 (which I sent with my I-751 application) so the IO can see the most recent bank statement in 2018 to see that we've had the same joint bank account for a while.  👍

We were also asked for recent photos since it had been a year since our application. She originally asked to see my phone photos, but I had brought a printout of a few photos from the last year and that was fine and went into their file.

Photos?  :wow:  Did you submit stronger evidence such as joint apartment lease, joint property ownership, joint bank account statement, etc.?  :reading:

I am just about to submit N-400 and I have been reading lot of comment about waiting time depend on field office.

Do I get to choose field office or service center or it would be allocated based on my location?

    7 minutes ago, Russ&Caro said:

It would be allocated based on your location. If you can financially and/or logistically arrange a residence near a field office with short processing times, that might be an effective strategy to getting your application examined sooner. Good luck.

Note, if you do shop for a field office by setting up a residence, make sure you put in a change of address for any other pending applications, such as i751.

You could move to a district where their application timeline is shorter!

But...you must have lived there (in the state or USCIS district) for at least 3 months before you can apply for N-400!  :clock:

Haha, you should have seen the face of officer when I requested I-551 stamp. Officer is like " why do you need stamp?" and I am like "For employment and travel purpose." Even I was shocked when officer only gave me stamp for 4 months and asked  to come back if it expires and I am still not the citizen. What a drag!! Thinking about filing writ of mandamus if I miss voting this time.

Oh, No!  Maybe you got unlucky and got a cranky officer this time?  :dead:

I hope you get a more pleasant officer next time if/when you go back to get another extension stamp!

Haha ... You think Seattle office is the slowest? Wait until you see Dallas office with 26 months wait time ... lolz

    26 months!!??  :wow::wow::wow:

According to https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/, it states  that it takes 17-19 months at the Dallas office so it's a little better than 26 months (but slower than the Seattle office)!

Ah, you are right. You have to be registered to vote. Your interview date cuts it kind of close. Oh well, at least you will be a citizen, and that is something to celebrate about!!!!

Well, not being able to vote makes me feel young since I couldn't vote when I was 17 years old!

I feel like I'm 17 again (and turning 18 soon)!

My wife and I went through the i751 and n400 combo interview a month ago. At the time, the IO stated that she would receive both her green card and a notice of an upcoming oath ceremony. We were happy about the latter and sort of rolled our eyes about the former. We didn't think they would bother initiating the processing to generate a green card. And they haven't. Nor have they updated the online status for the i751 application. It remains "received by the local office March 5th, 2018". So if you do have an upcoming combo interview you might want to temper your expectations on receiving a green card. It might not happen. My wife did go in some months ago to get the i551 stamp which is good until July 2019 so at this point there would be no reason to need a 10 year green card. Good luck everyone. I hope everyone gets their combo interview notice soon.

I'm having a combo interview too!  I hope everything goes well.  Fingers crossed!

Congratulations on becoming US citizen very soon!! I have very similar situation where I had combo interview in April 2018. I-751 was approved in May 2018 and N-400 was approved on June 1st, 2018. But unfortunately I am having the worst of both world. As of today neither do I have actual green card nor do I have my oath scheduled yet (it was scheduled once but quickly de-scheduled by USCIS). My green card was never ordered due to N-400. So I did numerous info-pass and phone calls to at least process one of them. Unfortunately it was futile. Since USCIS was dragging my N-400 oath,  in last shot I submitted e-request with very stern message on 08/17 to produce my green card. Last week USCIS informed me that they requested my actual green card  and told me that it can take upto 60-90 days. I thought that my e-request would force USCIS to schedule me for oath. But alas, what a disaster they created....So in a nutshell I believe rules vary from one field office to another. You have to be on top of your game!

P.s. I got I-551 stamp from my last info-pass visit in August but it is only good for 4 months.

4 months!?  :wow: I didn't know that some office issued an extension for less than 6 months!

At the Seattle office, they give you either a 6-month extension or 1-year extension (but they're probably the slowest office)!

Looks like you may be able to vote this November after all!!!!

Well, let's see that I have my interview at the end of October.  My oath ceremony may not be before Nov 6!  :bonk:

My friend told me that I had to be a citizen at least 1 month before the election date in order to register myself?  :dead:

So it looks like there is a good chance that I won't be able to vote in the midterm elections.

I just noticed on the USCIS Processing times site that Yakima, Washington local office has estimated time range of 3.5 to 5.5 months. Can you do a temporary move over to Apple Country for a couple of months? I'm half kidding here, obviously. I wonder why Seattle doesn't ship some of their cases over to Yakima for processing. Maybe the offices don't work like that.

As a matter of fact, I was joking about moving to Yakima just for N-400 application with other Seattle applicants!

We talked about just eating lots of apples for 5 months in Yakima while waiting for our N-400 applications!

Yes, it rains a lot in Seattle!  :dead:  I guess there are 5-10 more sunny days per year in Portland than Seattle???

Seattle office is so backlogged but the good news is he’s almost there. It takes on average 14 months now in Seattle. July/August 2017 filers are now currently getting a string of interviews.

There's a couple of Seattle combo filers in this thread and they have confirmed that it's a long wait. It sort of depends on your priorities. There could be a delay on GC processing if both applications are routed to Seattle, so if having a 10 yr GC is a big priority then you might want to wait. On the other hand, if naturalization is your big priority, then getting in queue in Seattle ASAP is the route to go.

My opinion, which is just a feeling really, is that Seattle is going to have to get their act together. They're going to have to process GC's separately from the N400's to avoid further delays for people, or hire a bunch of people and work down the entire backlog. I'm guessing that 3 months from now things might look differently at the Seattle office. However, I'm just spitballing here.

I agree!  Yes, it depends on your priorities!

My priority was to be able to vote in Nov so that's why I applied for N-400.      Well, it doesn't look like I'll be able to do that so I might have waited to get my 10-year Green Card first if I had known that the Seattle office was going to slow down dramatically.  :bonk:

Of course, I was just being too optimistic and happy go lucky!
