  1. Thanks for the link...but wow!

I guess saying someone is fat is considered "indecent" or "grossly offensive"...by their standards I suppose...just great!

I wonder if it applies to grossly under-weight individuals? They have rights also.

I hate peas..no wait, I wouldn't be able to say that according to the definition? Vegans might find that indecent and grossly offensive.

I hate my fat, ugly, ex-wife...but that's not okay now either.

  2. So because she "believes" she was targeted for wearing a hijab, then it follows that that's the actual reason?

Perhaps it's true after all...one's perception becomes their reality.

I'm not saying that it is or isn't the case as she herself may or may not know the real reason since no one has asked the perpetrator.

I believe in Bigfoot, but that doesn't mean it exists.

  3. If you do not apply, zero.

If you apply something more than that.

Why not just apply and find out? You do not have much time to do so.

Brevity sans verbose diatribes, I like that.

OP, if you chose to apply, please let us know the outcome.

No one can give you any probabilities. Each case is judged on its own merits.

    Exactly.

  4. according to this 'logic', there must be good reasons to rob banks, steal cars, etc....rationalization is the term you are looking for....when people decide to disobey rules and regulations, they often try to find something that was more important than being a responsible adult....and if everyone did that whenever they felt like it, what would our cultures, economies, etc, look like in very short order?

And when someone consciously decides to ignore the laws, but then wants their privileges restored, on what basis should that happen? If your child goes to a party, drinks, then wrecks the car, would you be rushing out to buy him or her a new one? When your child lies to you, how quickly do you start believing them again?

Your 'soft line' of rewarding lawbreakers no matter what appears to reflect how little you think of our laws....

Border controls/visas, etc, are in place to protect the American culture and economy....visas, like tourist visas, are an object of trust....(like the VWP)...I've interviewed countless thousands of visa cheats who, after being shown the door in various ways, thought they could just show up the next day, waving some weepily worded letter of apology (often written by their American SO), promising never to violate the terms of a visa again (statistics do not support this claim) and then expect that their 'good reasons' will be given a front row seat during the adjudication process and a new visa given to someone who has yet to demonstrate that they merit one....such promises, being self serving and totally non-enforceable, had no positive impact on my decision making ....I watched colleagues fall prey to such nonsense and pay the price....

I just don't have a soft spot in my make up that turns a blind eye to those who have thumbed their noses at our laws...

Curious, what price did they pay? What form or fashion?

  5. Thanks for your help. After looking into it, I think Im going to go through the process with the Fiance Visa so she can just stay here while we process her citizenship papers. While that is being processed, is it true that she is not allowed to return back to Brazil and re-enter the US? She is in a PhD program and while here she will work on her thesis paper but will have to go back to present it. Do we have to wait until she is considered a US citizen before she tried to re-enter the country? If so, when she goes back to Brazil will she be allowed back into Brazil as a Dual Citizen or will she need a tourist visa like the rest of the US? Thanks again for your help!

Does Brazil offer and/or recognize dual-citizenship? I don't know. Enter using her Brazilian passport.

  6. Because living in refugee campd, in tents with your family, is clearly the ideal situation. Just like homeless Vets on the streets living in cardboard boxes is clearly the ideal situation.

    Republican fart cake

Yet unlike some Veterans living in cardboard boxes on the streets, I doubt Uncle Sam will allow the Syrian refugees to live the same lifestyle some Vets do. God Bless America!

  7. I can, but I know from experience that my skin color speaks louder than my actions ever will.

What folks don't get is, all we want is to be treated like everyone else, no better or worse.

    I believe you.

Some of us get it. If I knew you, I'd hope I'd judge you by your character and not your color.

  8. It is. You keep saying black from Africa or the West Indies. I've talked to Africans who were adamant they be classified as African or from whatever province they hailed from. Think about Charlie Theron. By definition, she's an African American. Why doesn't she identify as such?

No one outside of black people want to be called black, there is a difference.

    http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/12/the-financial-consequences-of-saying-black-vs-african-american/383999/

But if it was known that “Black" people were viewed differently from “African Americans,” researchers, until now, hadn’t identified what that gap in perception was derived from. A study, to be published next month in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, found that “Black” people are viewed more negatively than “African Americans” because of a perceived difference in socioeconomic status. As a result, “Black” people are thought of as less competent and as having colder personalities.

Whatever country they come from. Cameroonian, Nigerian, etc. Black people are specifically American born people of African descent.

Personally I find African American wrong since we don't classify white people as European American.

    As do I.

In the words of Rodney King, "Can we all get along?" Sadly, it won't be in my lifetime...or ever.

  9. I use actual words. I'm not sure what you are using in the previous post but they weren't words. I don't have time to spend time trying to interpret what you are trying to say.

Pray tell which actual words you're having such a difficult time understanding? You apparently have enough time to read my posts...expend some energy and time...it's good for your brain.

  10. Which means we should ignore this notion of structural discrimination and focus on the real problems.

No, I never said to ignore it. It's already been acknowledged in most circles ad nauseam. So tired of all the excuses...fuh kuck in deal with things once and for all.

  11. imo they're no where near comparison, also imo, such comparisons are pointless. instead of confronting the racial issues black people face in this country, we are forever arguing if black people actually experience racial issues. how can we get to solutions if we can't agree there is a problem?

Ding, ding, ding...acknowledge a problem exists, stop making excuses, deal with the problem.

  12. It's because the older generation feels utterly jealous and like a bunch of losers when some young kid comes up with a start up and makes millions in the process.

They feel like they are losing their privilege of running the world, when the younger crowd comes in with a different vision as to what the future should hold, just like we did. They complain when our youth act like a bunch of entitled brats and they complain when they voice their opinion on issues like politics and racism; and take to the streets with movements like BLM or OWS.

It's basically because they must feel very bad and sorry for themselves on the prospect of finding themselves dependent on a check from SSA - that they will resent but gladly and eagerly accept - to complement what little is left of their life-savings, with what Reganomics and more recently Bush mad-o-nomics.

Ultimately, it's because they can't blame Obama for all the bad decisions they made along their lives, so why not find a scapegoat on today's youth?

Keep telling yourself that and eventually you'll convince yourself it's true.

  13. Not being rude, but which ethnic group in America has endured slavery and made a full recovery?

Because I can only think of two. Native Americans and Black people.

For the sake of my clarity, are you saying that Black people have endured 400 years of slavery IN AMERICA...or anywhere? 2015 - 400 = 1615.
