  1. My husband applied for his work permit renewal (2nd time), and it was granted back in June, 2008. They said they were sending the card. It never arrived. We moved, we phoned USCIS and let them know our new address, we mailed in the address change form. They resent the work permit, then we received notification that the work permit was sent back to USCIS because it had been sent to our old address. We called back and were informed that we have to change our address for every case we have at USCIS (he's also adjusting status), so we changed it for the work permit then, and asked if they'd resend it. They put in the request to resend it (3rd request). My husband's work permit had expired before the third request, but we had to wait 30 days before we could submit another request. Now his permit has been expired for two months and his driver's license has expired, which he can't renew until he has the work permit. We called today to see if they could fax something that he could take to the DL office. They said they couldn't fax anything. He tried taking the documentation sent out by USCIS stating he had been approved for his EAD renewal, but the DL office said they need the card. Is there ANYTHING we can do??? My husband's job depends on him having a driver's license. He's a mechanic and has to take cars on test drives, which means he must have a valid driver's license. PLEASE HELP, if you have any information that would be useful. We live in Georgia, if that has any bearing on the matter.

You applied for AOS in september 2006! and have not had your interview yet? If I were you I would forget calling the 1-800 they can not help you. Make an infopass appointment at your local office and find out what is going on with your AOPS and request the EAD is mailed to your correct address.

If you get no info from your local office you should be contacting your Congressman to get them to find out why you are having to wait over 2 years for your Greencard.

Oh and make sure you put your name on your mailbox.

We've already gone through everything. They're working on it. He just went in to be fingerprinted in October. They can't even give us an explaination as to why our application has taken so long. Meanwhile, he still doesn't have his work permit.

  3. I've read the FAQS about this, but I'm still confused. My husband and I filed the paperwork for his green card, and USCIS received it on September 18, 2006. Today, we have received notification that he has received his green card. In the FAQS section it states that he will probably go straight to permanent resident with no conditions. However the I-751 says it has to be filed before our second anniversary, which was in July. Do we need to file the I-751? If not, where do we go from here?

  4. My husband received an RFE, we have gathered the evidence they need, and are ready to mail it back to them. However, I don't know what address to send it back to. They didn't include this in the information they mailed out. Our case was in the California Service Center, but I was told a few days ago that it was in the Atlanta office. I'm not sure where to send it because I only just found out it was in the Atlanta office, no notification was sent out explaining that it was being transferred.

  5. After finally getting an investigation into Patrick's AOS, which was filed September 2006, we have received an RFE. They have stated that his medical was not included in our AOS packet. However, we did include this medical. The ONLY reason I am so positive of this is because it was such a hassle to get. We had to drive an hour away to the only doctor who was approved by immigration to do this medical. We were rear ended just 10 minutes away from the Dr. Office. When we got there they couldn't hit the vein on Patrick so his poor arm was black and blue when we got home. About an hour from returning home, we received a message from the Dr. Office stating we needed to come back because they gave us the wrong form. We returned the next day. They gave us an unofficial copy for our records, and a copy that was in a sealed envelope that was to be sent in with the AOS packet (unopened). This was the last thing we needed for the packet, so we just slid it in and mailed it off. Now, nearly two years later, they're sending us an RFE for this thing that we DEFINITELY included. My only thought is that we have to go back up to that idiot of a Doctor and pay the $50.00 for another copy and resubmit. I guess there is nothing we can do since an immigration officer lost the document. They'll just say "sorry, it wasn't included" no matter what really happened. I'm so mad! This is probably what was holding up the entire process!!!!

  6. Armenia is part of the European Union, right? She could live in another country within Europe without having to apply for a visa within that country, I think. That way she would at least be away from the pressures of her family while you work this out. Once she's living in another country, you could just apply for the fiance visa (K-1). She would have to travel back to Armenia for her medical and interview, but she wouldn't have to live there.

Armenia is not part of the EU but she may well be able to arrange to live in the EU more easily than the US or Canada with the rest of your suggestion being worth looking into, IMO.

Ah! I asked my husband if it was and he said "I think so." He's from Europe, I figured he knew.

  8. My husband and sent off his AOS paperwork in September, 2006. The last time it was touched was in November, 2006. We have called and had them submit official inquiries, and never heard anything back. We have had an infopass appointment in our local office, in which the officer new nothing of our case and could tell us nothing. We did follow her instructions and fax the California Service Center. We followed all directions to a T. Still we've heard nothing. I'm going to call on Monday and submit an official inquiry again, and ask them what we can do from here. I really don't know. I'm very frustrated and have no idea what my options are.

  9. Yes, Miranda, it sounds like it has something to do with the Atlanta office. You should have at least been transferred to California by now. Maybe you should try infopass, as the other Miranda suggested to find out the details of the RFE and what's going on with your case.

And to donnaal, I understand your frustration. But all you had to do was just answer the OP's question. Everyone's case is different. You're stuck in FBI checks, and the OP may not be in the same situation. Good luck to everyone waiting.

From her signature timeline it looks as if she has been transferred to CSC, but I agree about finding out what was going on with that RFE.

Edit: O wait I dunno....were you transferred, Miranda?

Yes, I was transferred to CSC months ago. I'm not sure the exact date I was notified as that is in a filing cabinet that I don't want to go into right now :(. But it was quite quickly after we sent it to Chicago. It seems like I remember it going to Chicago, then to Missouri for some reason and very quickly from there to California. I don't think it ever made it to Atlanta, which confused the slop out of me.

  10. I sent off for my husband's EAD and AOS in September when we got married, but I haven't sent anything for Advanced Parole. I saw it on a few timelines and was wondering, have I made a huge mistake here? Is this something I can fix. Please let me know because I'm on the verge of thinking that we've made a huge mistake and he could be deported. I know that's just my pregnant brain talking with all the hormones, but it would be nice to know if this is pretty bad.

  11. i know ur frustrated but there are alot of us here who have been stuck a heck alot longer then u. uve hardly waited that long.

we filed in jan 2005 and took a whole year just to get an interview and here we are a year and half past the interview and we still wait. so 2.5 years wasted already.

wait til uve had 3 eads and 2 ap to pay for. now with fees going up we have to pay the higher fees until the fbi decides to finish my husbands checks.

    really concider urself lucky.

I understand you are upset about your situation. However, I was just trying to look for some answers. Seeing as how you're really not offering any, you really shouldn't have posted here. Your comment was just a distraction. In any case, you are undergoing a k-3 visa, while I am undergoing a K-1 visa. These two visas are different and have different timelines. I was looking at others who have the same type of visa as me and have applied for AOS at a similar time as me. It seemed like they were all being approved as well as those who applied months after me. I wanted to know why they were all being approved and I wasn't. I'm sorry about your situation, but you offered no support, only a slap in the face.

  12. Did you send back whatever they needed on the RFE? Or did you assume that the doctor got the notice & he'd take care of it? Maybe they are waiting for a response from you?

I never heard (at least here on VJ) of an RFE going to a dr... usually it comes to you and you have to get whatever is missing (whatever from the doctor) and that you send back.

They didn't send us the RFE. We just checked online and it said one had been sent. So, when I called USCIS, they said they'd already received a response to the RFE and told me that that was it. I couldn't get a person who could actually tell me what the RFE was for and to whom it had been sent, or what had been sent back to them. So I have only been able to rely on what the 4 different representatives told me. Not ideal I know. I'd love to have someone actually be able to talk to me in detail about what happened.

  13. USCIS received our I-485 on September 18, 2006. Since then, we've received 1 RFE, which apparently had to go to the doctor who didn't fill something out on the biometrics form. In any case, we never saw what it was and when I phoned to ask about it, they said they'd received what they needed. It is now July 12, 2007 and it seems like everyone else on here has been approved within the amount of time it's taking my husband to be approved. The last time I called (months ago) they gave me some ####### answer about how there are no processing timelines for this sort of application and to just be patient. We've already had to send off for another EAD and are currently waiting the outcome of that. I'm just so frustrated I want to scream. I want my husband to have his official green card so he can move onto the U.S. citizen applications. Never in my life have I met an organization that is more disorganized and useless. Sorry about the rant. I just needed to get that out to someone who isn't my husband.

  14. I came into the country from the UK as a k-1 visa last year and am now currently awaiting AOS. My current work permit expires in November and I need to get the ball rolling on a renewal. Please help. I'm a little lost. What form do I need to fill out and what do I need to send with it?? I know I should send the top portion of the letter they sent when my last card was issued, but other than that I dunno what else. HELP!!

  15. It's modified Irn Bru. They sell it in the same packaging, but they can't sell the true stuff over here. Irn Bru won't give out their recipe. I thought about buying it, but I don't know how closely it tastes to the real Irn Bru.

Tastes exactly the same to me. Also the can looks identical to the UK one. Where did you read this about not selling the "true stuff" in the USA? Sounds like apocryphal bollocks to me.

I'm not sure, I read it on an internet article the other day. I hope it is bollocks because I'd like for my husband to have it on his birthday. :)

  17. equal partners will never work. one of the main reasons for divorce today. both partners go into a marriage without knowing who has the final word or say in the family. it ends arguments or disagreements quickly. but a good leader of a family is not a tyrant but a compassionate person who does compromise even though he knows he does have the final say.

I think that's a matter of opinion. My husband and I work on it and work on it until a satisfactory compromise is met.

  18. I know for sure that we have learned how to communicate very well. That is the only thing I am grateful for when it comes to this long distance relationship. I have never had a communication level such as this one in any of my past relationships. I think it will play a big part of our marriage being successful.

I completely agree. I don't think anyone is better at communicating than a couple who has had a long distance relationship. It's not like you can just be with that person without talking. Being with my husband now and not having to talk all the time is something I cherish, but I've made the comment in the past that I don't want to lose our communication just because we're in the same country now.

  19. Patrick's birthday is April 29. I've been thinking about buying him some of his favorite British foods that he's been missing and cooking them up for him on his birthday. The only problem is that I'm unsure of where to get them. I can order them online of course, but I'd rather go somewhere and get them. I like seeing the product I'm buying. However, if I do go the online route, I'm sure some of you have ordered British foods online and might have some recommendations. Please help! It's not that long before his birthday and I need some guidance. I've been looking for Irn Bru, but have found out that it's contraband in the United States since the company won't list their ingredients. That would have been awesome because he really misses Irn Bru. Oh well, I guess he'll have to do without that particular one. Thanks for any help in advance!!

  20. So I called USCIS to question about my I-485 which was received by them on September 18, 2006. It still has not been approved. An RFE was sent out (not to us, apparently it was sent to the FBI doing background checks). They received a response on November 16 for this request. The woman on the phone told me that they are currently working on August marriage based I-485's. She said that my was reopened on November 16, so my petition will resume work when the processing dates get to November. I don't understand their logic behind this. My petition was sent in during the month of September. Just because they didn't receive a response until November from the FBI for the name checks shouldn't mean that I have to wait until November for it to continue being filed. I'm SO angry about this. Patrick's work permit expires next November. We will be refiling for his work permit before he ever gets a green card. I'm frustrated at the amount of money this is costing. It's unnecessary. Just needed to vent. Sorry!

  21. Patrick and I sent off our I-485 in September. We had an RFE November 16. This RFE never came to us, but they received a response. We called and asked and they said it could have been an RFE sent to the Dr. office from the biometrics. Now it's February 17 and the CSC updated last January (I've been so busy that I've only just now checked the processing dates). Well... they recieved our petition on September 12 and they are currently working on cases recieved September 25. What do we do? Is this normal? Patrick has been to his fingerprint appointment... that was set up in September. Should I give them a call on Monday or is this normal? I checked my email to see if I received an Email from USCIS... none. I looked online at our case status... same old RFE received message. I even called thinking that they may not have updated the computer system, but they might have changed the phone system. Same old RFE received message. I'm just frustrated and worried.

  22. My husband and I filed our AOS paperwork back in September. I finally went online and it stated that they sent out an RFE on October 16. Well..... today is November 15 and that's 30 days. I guess I call?? What do they do if you don't get your RFE paperwork? Resend it? Who do we call about this problem? So far the process has gone pretty smooth. I haven't had to deal with an RFE before.
