What form? I-130? The expiration date on the form has nothing to do with the process. Whatever form was filled at the time, it stays that way even if you have an interview in 5, 7, 15 years
Are the people you’re talking about who got the interview sooner also doing IR5? If they’re doing spousal, that has priority over parent petitions
You have been DQ’d at NVC since September 2021, that’s about 6 months which is not a long wait. I understand the petition was approved way earlier but DQ is the only date that matters right now. At this point you have no other option but wait for NVC to assign you an interview date. There are backlogs that have not been cleared plus IR5s are not number one priority for consulates.
I see. We filed for I30 form and submitted DS 260. I understand. I guess I'm afraid of having to resubmit and pay the fees again. I don't mind waiting. I'm familiar with waiting. I just don't want to pay another fee because we neglected to follow-up. With the inflation going on, money is hard to come by. Thank you so much for your kind and intelligent response.

Hi all,
I am somewhat frustrated about my mother application. We filed it on Sept 2019 and the last action we received was September 2021. Approved and case is in NVC. Our form will expired this year September. How should I proceed on this. Everything is paid and documents are accepted.
Thank you

When I applied for my parents this is what sent:
I130 for my mom;
My birth certificate ( I got a new one scanned not original)
My naturalization certificate
I130 and fees
I130 for dad:
My birth certificate
My naturalization certificate
My mom and dad's marriage certificate (important to USCIS for some reason)
I130 and fees.
Don't forget to send the marriage certificate. All documents were copies, not originals.
Thank you so much

Hi guys,
It appears that there is a bit misunderstanding with my Post, but for some reason I can't edit my post. I didn't change my name. What I mean is that they issued me a new card with the SAME Social Security Number but no restriction written on it. something like "DHS AUTHORIZATION EMPLOYMENT PURPOSE " . The officer took my old Social Security Card, it was fine with me since he gave me a letter saying that I went and change my status and so on.

Hi there,
I just want to share some info and experience that might help when you update your SSN after being Naturalized Citizen of US. I went in my local SS office and surprisingly there were only 3 of us. They people at my local SS office were nice and they congratulated me for becoming a US Citizen I told the security personnel what's my purpose so, here it is. Since all of us have SSN card already, we don't have to print or bring any form. You have to fill up something real quick in their kiosk and it will give you a que number. The SS officer called my number, and asked me what's my purpose so I told him I just recently became a US citizen and i'm here to update my SSN status. So he asked me for my DL, SSN card, and my naturalization certificate. He put me on oath before he started asking me some question about my recent information on the file. He handed back my naturalization certificate and DL. He took my SSN card to dispose it properly. He gave me a receipt, it's more like a statement saying that all original docs were given back to me after my visit (exception of SSN card). I got my new SSN card in 10 days. Hope this helps!
Bring the ff:
SSN card
DL
Naturalization Certificate or passport
Important thing to remember.
It's better to update your SSN status after 3 weeks of being Naturalized, I think it has something to do with updates in their system. ( I read some people who went there after 10 days and their still not updated and they were asked to provide their passport.)
*Process might vary based on your location but I supposed it should be standard.

Hi there,
I'm starting to petition my father this upcoming month. I'm a little confused about the documents I need to submit I-30.
What I have:
1. My birth certificate (does it need to be ordered recently? I have a orginal copy from K1 visa)
2. My naturalization certificate (copy or original?) (i haven't applied for my passport)
3. Application form
What else do I need to supplement? I read that I need to have my dad's passport and my evidence of financial support. My husband is the only source of income.
Thank you so much!

I'm not an expert. But, i think you can just apply for naturalization. (correct me if I'm wrong).
1. I think since you have a green card and been living in the US for more than 5 years. Technically you can apply for naturalization even if you just got married from a US citizen. I don't think, that your green card needs to reflect your married name since the USCIS didn't granted you through marriage. Again technically you are LPR for more than 5 years so you can apply for Naturalization.
2. I had a different situation, I have my maiden name on my passport and married name on green card(my LPR status was married to a US citizen). I didn't have any problem during naturalization interview, or any government paperwork, I always included marriage certificate.
3. With Social Security, I'm not sure if they would change your last name for that reason. And this is correct
On 6/9/2018 at 10:30 PM, Wuozopo said:They are so particular about your name has to be found in the SAVE database. Unless you had a greencard or naturalization certificate in your married name, they might not do it. I really don't know...just thinking out loud.
When I applied for SSN, it took 2-3 weeks If my memory is correct, because the couldn't find my name in the SAVE database.

Thank y'all.
To all who is still in the process. It will come, because obviously we are all doing something about it-to make it happen. and when that day comes it will be the sweetest.

Hi all,
I’m going to start by saying THANK YOU SO MUCH to VisaJourney community. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge. Like most of us here, we started our immigration journey without any idea how to start. We stumbled upon VisaJourney’s page and decided to try it out. We were a bit skeptic about it, but it turns out to be one of the sources of information (aside from USCIS website) we always go to.
My oath ceremony experience was wonderful. We are impressed by the efficiency of the Immigration officers in USCIS Portland, Oregon. We got there around 1pm and there were quite a bit of people at the security check, but we got through quickly. We started on time @ 1.30pm and got done by around 2.30pm. First, they called the applicants( the ones who will take their Oath), and we went downstairs and everyone took a seat. It seems that everyone was a bit tense, maybe we were all hoping that nothing will go sideways at the last minute (you never know), but it all changed when the officer said something like "You can smile, you're at the end of the process, reason to be happy". After that they arranged our seating, and brief us with the Oath ceremony process, then they called our family and friends. It was packed. If I'm not mistaken 54 new citizens and 13 countries represented. Everyone in the room got emotional especially when they showed a video of US immigrants from the beginning up to now. It was a wonderful and a meaningful day. I registered to vote after the ceremony. They didn't have passport application that day.
So far, we’ve been lucky that our applications have been smooth and fast. The processing time for our N400 was 6 months. I think it was mostly luck and attention to detail. It also depends on how intricate the paperwork. We gathered every information and documents we could find that were necessary, then sorted it out in order. We put our paper work together in such way that it will be easy to read and locate for the person who’ll review it. We thought, you know, this person receives tons of paperwork everyday, so why not make it easier for him/her. We added color coded tabs and cover letters. Have lots of patience, and ask for help. I consider this forum as a community, we may seem strangers to each other but we share the same goal, to live the American dream, to seek the betterment for ourselves and our family.
May it be positive and negative experiences, both are considered valuable lessons for those will come after us. Hope for the best to all.

Congratulations, fellow Oregonian (I assume)
Half a year (or in my case four months) for the entire process is still much quicker than I expected/feared back in December when I submitted my online application.
I assume your ceremony is at the USCIS offices in Portland. Everyone there was very nice. Congratulations again!
Thank you. Yeah, it's in Portland USCIS office. I agree, people in USCIS Portland are pleasant. I think, Oregonians are generally nice.

Hello guys! Just wanted to ask , has anyone here made a mistake with the N400 online form they submitted and how did you correct the mistake? Thanks!
I believe that the IO will go through your application, you can tell the IO the correction on your application.

The USCIS website is probably backlog. Try without any special characters when naming your file. Most of the time it's something you can't fix and just have to wait and try again.

This is what I had posted online too 'We approved your application', then a few days later its been removed. The last notice online now says 'your interview is scheduled'.
Look at your Case History. Mine had "You attended your interview" and We approved your application on the same day. I had to check USCIS case status online and when I typed my receipt number it says "My Oath will be scheduled". I'm still waiting.

You are welcome. Did the IO ask for the passport photo?
No, she didn't. On the way there, I thought, if the IO ask me for a passport photo, I will drive quickly to the nearest Walgreens which is 5 mins away.

Thanks for sharing. Just curious though to know if they don't have a piece of paper to write your answer how do you answer it?
It's all computerized. She asked me questions directly from the computer monitor (which you can't see) then she typed my answer for each question. I think they are trying to reduce paper consumption. The only paper I encountered was the reading and writing portion.

Hi, I am very pleased to know that. I am also waiting for my interview letter but I believe I have to wait for few more months. The weather is very nice and 70 degrees. Do you remember the civic questions asked from you? Have a great rest of your naturalization journey. Keep us posted on your progress, regards.
It is all in the 100 questions. What is religious freedom? How many senators? What ocean is on the east coast? I can't remember the other 3. As soon as you answered 6 of them correctly, they will stop. BTW, its all modernized. They won't have a piece of paper to write your answer.

Hi there,
I passed my interview today and they will mail me my oath letter. I didn't ask when they will mail me my oath schedule because I was so relieved that the interview was over and my application is recommended for approval. Thank you all. I think filing online made a difference but I think it really depends on the situation.

My appointment was at 12pm and we got there around 11.20am and saw bunch of people just got done with their Oath. You could see the burst of emotion. I checked in and waited on the 2nd floor. I got call around 12.20pm and got out of the room around 12.35pm. It was quick interview. I brought essential documents that was asked on the letter and things that proved my marriage. The officer was nice and pleasant. She only asked my state ID (DL), Green Card and Passport.
Hope everyone is having a nice day. It's getting warm here in PNW and we love it.

Hi there, Yeah you should bring the evidence you submitted and also any evidence you gathered since filing for naturalization. I am not sure about the passport photo. I wonder if you are being asked if not you could bring them with you just to be on the safe side. Since my field office is also Portland OR I will be following your status. Keep us posted. I am pretty positive you will do well. Have a great interview, regards.
Yeah, I think I might just do that. And bring all the documents I have. Thanks
