  1. Are there any Irish on here with very normal Irish names (in Ireland), but not normal at all outside of Ireland? How do people manage with your name and do you get tired of correcting people if it's often mis-pronounced?

Our girls have very normal Irish names, but they are pronounced completely different to how they are written. We love their names and hope they will too, but a little part of me worries that they'll spend the rest of their life correcting pronunciations.

Their names are Sinéad and Róisín - how would the non-Irish people here pronounce those? I'll tell you the right way in a bit ;)

  2. Hi

We paid approx $350 when we filed the I-130 in Dublin. I'm going to be sending off my Notice of Readiness next week and was just wondering what other fees will I have to pay on the day of the interview? I read that there's a $70 processing fee for the I-864 is that correct? Any others that I need to know about?

    Thanks in advance

Just replying to myself. I searched and found that it's another $400 at the interview and the $70 for the I-864 is not required.

  3. Firstly, I would give him a shoe up the backside for being such an idiot and putting you through all this worry!!

If I'm being perfectly honest, I think I would re-schedule the appointment, but then again - what's to stop him doing it again? So maybe there should be reprecussions. Go to the medical and let him face up to what he's done. if it shows up, he'll have to apply for a waiver and a whole lot of forgiveness from you.

P.S. How much is the medical now? It was €317 a few weeks ago when I rang Cork, where are you going?

  4. hxxrmonkey, I was just going to reply telling you about the "observation" of a different name than what is on your birth cert. I recently changed mine to my married name but had them make a note of my maiden name. I'll be very surprised if they don't make him apply for a new passport - crazy I know!

He can do a walk in to Cork if he explains his situation and he can have his passport that day. In saying that, I got mine back within the week so he shouldn't have to wait too long - hopefully though he won't have to get a new passport.

  5. hxxrmonkey, thanks for the advice. You are right, it is expensive to live here and although housing prices are dropping, it it still expensive in comparison to what you get in the U.S.

And my fiance always talks about how we don't have to turn on the hot water to take a shower or shave or do the dishes and the heat runs as much as we want for a fraction of the cost.
Ah the good old emersion in the hot press :D
