This is exactly what happened to me! I had a family scheduled to Brazil (which I hadn't gone to in two years), flights purchased for me, my husband and stepdaughter and apartments rented for three weeks. The interview happened to be in the middle of my trip. I tried to change the flights but it would cost double the price I paid for. The only options I thought I had was to cancel the trip and lose all the money or reschedule the interview (which I was really afraid to do since I seem to have bad luck with theses cases). However, I was lucky to find some cheap flights to come back in the middle of my trip just for the interview (arriving the day before and leaving after the interview) and it was cheaper than rescheduling my original trip. End of story: I had to spend extra $$, lose 3 1/2 precious days of my trip, add 20+ hours of traveling each way, all so this process didn't drag forever more!

The above post is not entirely accurate. They can adjust her status from a tourist visa so long as she entered the US *without* the intention to marry and then stay in the USA. If they can show they married on a whim, and she really had every intention of leaving before her visa expired, then she can adjust. Read this guide and most importantly the warning at the top: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2
This path is higher risk, as if they think she DID have intent to stay (i.e. she wrapped up her home/job etc. in her home country before leaving - that would be a bad sign), then she'd be committing visa fraud and could face a 10 year US ban.
Thanks! It was quite a wait and delays every step of the way. I hope your journey is going well! I would not do this again, I would just marry in the other country and wait there for this long process. I would not suggest anyone go thru this K1 process, life is too short to lose close to a year of time apart. So glad the separation is over!!
Take Care!!
I got my fiance to call NVC to see if our paperwork had been shipped by USCIS and confirmed at NVC - it had been confirmed the day he rang. It took exactly 2 weeks from the date we were notified by USCIS that our paperwork had been shipped to NVC to it being confirmed at NVC. Just thought it might be useful info for others. Now it will be interesting to see how long it takes to 1. get our application number assigned 2. shipped to the Sydney, Australian consulate. 3. Packet 3 information to arrive.
I was wondering. After my fiance arrives here on a K1 visa and we get married. Do you know if we can travel right after marriage on a honeymoon, even if we havent started the AOS processs or have any advance payroll yet? We want to go to Puerto Rico Island which is part of the U.S.. Would it be a problem to go there a day or two after our wedding???
wow!! 10 approvals on VSC in one day?! I'm impressed! If they continue approving at least half of this every day I'll be so happy. This whole waiting thing is depressive but I got a little excited when I saw Igor's list.

House panel approves homeland bill, bars Brazilian immigrants
The House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday approved a 2014 Homeland Security funding bill with a bipartisan voice vote. The bill is expected on the House floor in June.
In a surprise development, the committee approved an amendment from Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), which would effectively end immigration from Brazil.
The provision was included in order to pressure Brazil to extradite Brazilian-born Claudia Hoerig to the United States for trial in the murder of her husband, Air Force Major Karl Hoerig. The Ryan amendment does not affect travel visas or visas for temporary workers, an aide said
It was passed despite urgings from Homeland subcommittee Chairman John Carter (R-Texas) and ranking member David Price (D-N.C.) that it would have far-reaching implications. The text of the amendment withholds all funding from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to process any immigration visa request for a Brazilian national.
This amendment—which was adopted by voice vote—restricts U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) funds from being used to approve citizen-sponsored (I-130) petitions, employee-sponsored (I-140), and any other immigrant visa petition subject to USCIS approval submitted by or for a Brazilian national or citizen.
So... should all of us Pay for somebody crimes? Lets stand guys , write to this guy on his FB https://www.facebook.com/timryan/posts/10151595633142866?comment_id=26694002¬if_t=like
he walked out on you at the very beginning of the process, you had no idea where he was, what he was doing or if he was coming back. He obviously treats you like dirt and is guilting you into staying married until he gets his green card. And you feel guilty......seriously?????????? If you post something like this here and expect people to be sympathetic, I can't imagine many will. He obviously only married you to for a green card, he used you. WHY WHY WHY are you EVEN considering helping this man when he said he would just find another woman to marry to get a green card? Not to mention that you will be committing fraud because you know the second he gets his green card he is history. Have some self esteem, divorce him and let him figure it out by himself.
