When his passport was stamped at the POE the VISA also became his green card.
Just take the passport and fill out the form at the Social Security Office. Maybe take a birth certificate but everything is on the VISA.
Thank you so much!

He takes his passport.
That is great. What else should he take to prove that he has a permanent status? Thank you!

If he did not mark the box (to receive a SS card) on the DS-260, he can go to the local Social Security office to apply.
He did not mark the box. Can he go to the local SS office to apply even before he receives his green card? If so, what documents can he show the SS office? Thank you!

My father-in-law entered US on IR-5 on Dec 2nd. He has not received the green card yet. Can we apply for social security number now, or do we have to wait for green card to arrive? Thank you!

Thanks for posting this! I was wondering a rough time frame from documents accepted until notice of interview appointment
From uploading the documents to the acceptance of the documents, it is around 45 days. From the acceptance of the documents to notice of interview, it is around 8 days.

Yes open, the envelope you are not allowed to open will be contained inside, which is clearly marked. Congratulations to your father-in-law!
Thanks! My father-in-law arrived in the U.S. last night. I found out that there is no package inside the plastic bag. There are only 3 pages, two about social security number, and one about paying $220 fee. There is no CD of his x-ray. He just need to show his vaccine record from the medical examination.

Just an update. The online status said that the visa was issued on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. We received an email on Friday afternoon saying the passport was shipped. Around 2pm Shanghai time on Saturday, we received the passport package.
The package is basically several piece of paper with plastic cover. I have to open the cover to take out the passport. It is fine, right? In the past, we cannot open any packages

Highly recommended not to book a ticket before you have the passport in hand. God forbid there’s an error on the visa, gets lost in the mail, etc. took 2 weeks for my husband to receive passport after visa issued. it’s not worth it to lose your money on your airline ticket
Wow. Sorry to hear that. I will not book the tickets then.
Is it normally 24 hours that I will receive the passport back after a visa is issued?
-
Hooray! The online status shows that visa is just issued.
When will I receive it at home? The next day in Shanghai time? I am booking the ticket for Saturday.

Hello. Everyone goes through AP. No one can say for sure how long the wait will be it can be a day or a year. What country is he from?
Thank you. He is from Shanghai, China.

Hi all, my father-in-law had an interview this morning, and received a notice saying your visa has been approved. I checked CEAC's visa status online, it says Administrative Processing. Does that mean we have to wait for a long time to get the visa? Thank you!

My father-in-law interviewed this morning and was approved. I submitted request to mail to home in Shanghai. The shipping fee will be paid upon receipt. Currently the status shows administrative processing. I am not sure how long it will take to reach my father-in-law's home given the Thanksgiving break.

Do you know if it's possible to schedule to a later day?
I did not try. The response that I received was that I cannot move the interview to an earlier date. It did not say that I cannot move the date at all, so my guess that the answer to your question is yes.

Dear all, NVC assigned me an interview date that is not particularly convenient fro me. How can I reschedule with Guangzhou? I used the website form (https://china.usembassy-china.org.cn/visas/immigrant-visas/contact-us/immigrant-visa-unit-question/) , which is supposed to take 5 business days to respond. But I have not heard anything after 10 business days. The phone number on Guangzhou's website is automatic. What can I do to contact them about rescheduling? Thank you!

Watch this space officially being challenged in Oregon federal court!
Thank you. I googled it and found out the news here https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.oregonlive.com/crime/2019/10/class-action-suit-filed-in-portland-to-bar-president-trump-from-restricting-visas-for-immigrants-without-health-insurance.html%3FoutputType%3Damp. Hopefully the proclamation can be blocked by Sunday. I am not sure whether there is enough time.

Hi everyone,
Here is the update for this new electronic application system. Since it is a new process, so not many people may know the process.
I uploaded all my civic and financial documents to NVC website on August 29. I received an email on Oct 15 saying all my documents were accepted. Then on Oct 23, I received the email notifying me the appointment on Nov 26. There is no P3 or P4 in the process.
I log into the CGI website following instruction here https://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/cn-iv-documentdelivery.asp and updated my delivery address. One question: How do I pay for the home delivery?
I like this super efficient process. Thank you all for your help along the way.

I just received the interview notice for my dad. The interview date is Nov 26. Based on the exclusion of the law, it seems that I do not need to provide health insurance proof if he or I can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the consular officer that the alien’s healthcare will not impose a substantial burden on the United States healthcare system. But how can I demonstrate?
Alternatively, I saw I can buy Short-term, limited duration health plans effective for a minimum of 364 days or until the beginning of planned, extended travel outside the United States. The cost is only $500ish for a year. The question is whether that is enough evidence that he will not impose a burden on US healthcare system.
Thank you, all!

Hi All,
Thank you for so many useful information. NVC website just updated, stating all Civil and Financial Documents are accepted. The location is still at NVC. Can anyone correct me on my expected timeline below?
1. NVC send documents to Guangzhou: several days
2. Guangzhou receive NVC documents: 1 week
3. Guangzhou send out P3 request letter: 3-4 weeks
4. Submit P3 and P4 Arrive: 1-2 weeks
4. Schedule interview and medical date: Should we be looking at a middle December interview date?
Thank you, all!

Hi there, this forum is wonderful and I learned a lot. I am applying for my dad's green card and immigration visa on CEAC. I have two questions.
1. There is no place to type in DS-261 for selecting an agent. Can I just input my father and my email on the website? Is that going to be enough? We can all receive emails.
2. Am I done for now and just need to wait for NVC if I see the following? The AOS fee shows "PAID". The AOS Support Documents and Financial Evidence for me and my houshold member both show "SUBMITTED". IV fee shows "PAID". IV Application shows "COMPLETED". Civil Documents shows "SUBMITTED"
Thank you so much!

The title on the notarial certificate is
未受刑事处分公证书 (Wèi shòu xíngshì chǔfèn gōngzhèng shū) or "No criminal sanction public certificate"
Your 无犯罪公证 translates as Wú fànzuì gōngzhèng, or "No crime notarization"
You need a Notarial Certificate, not a notarization.
A Notarial Certificate is a statement from the Notarial Official as to the facts of the matter - different from a Western-style notarization.
Thank you so much, Randy for the detailed explanation. I think I have that. It is not sealed. Is it okay that I bring a not-sealed Notarial Certificate to the Guangzhou Consulate?
