  1. Dear VJ community,

I have learned so much from all of you. I am applying for my father's green card.  The I-130 was approved last month and his NVC case number was just emailed to me. It is my understanding that the shortcuts in the sticky do not seem to apply now since we no longer need to file DS-3032 and DS-230. Am I right? Do we have new ways to expedite the process?

Here is my understanding of the steps to take, and I also have some questions for these steps.

    1. Pay AOS fee and IV fee. I just did.

    2. Submit I864, I864A with financial documents, and DS-260 online.

    3. Submit other civil documents online including notarized marriage certificate, notarized birth certificate of me and my dad, and notarized non-criminal report.

    4. Wait for NVC to process my case before transferring to Guangzhou, China. On USCIS website, that normally takes 45 days. Is that the average time?

    5. Wait for NVC to transfer the case to Guangzhou. Does it take a few days, or several months?

    6. Wait for P3 at home. What if my dad is not home? Can anyone in the same household with the same last name to accept the mail?

    7. Fill out DS-160, pay fees at CITIC or at CEAC website, and mail all the documents to Guangzhou through CITIC.

    8. Wait for P4.  Is the wait time around 3-4 weeks?

    9. Schedule interview and go to Guangzhou for medical checkup. Can he do it in Shanghai? We do not live far away from the medical checkup place.

    10. Interview. After interview, wait a few days for the passport and an envelop to mail back to home. I heard if he got unlucky, that may take a few weeks.

Am I right in the above steps and average wait time? Thank you so much!

  3. I'm currently waiting for the new date.

You have to call them asap, and request to reschedule. I got letter saying they approved my request and nothing so far. My initial date is june 13, I will be calling them Monday to ask what should I do if I don't get new date before this one. really nerve-wracking(

Thank you! Please let me know after you call them on Monday. Good luck!

  4. It's funny you call it "canned message"... you are absolutely right! Talking to them is like talking to a text-to-speech software  They just read exact message you see on uscis site like a robot. But calling them won't hurt. You never know, someone might go the extra mile to help your case smile.gif

I just called. My file is still at Missouri. I was told they are still processing my files. It may take an additional 3 months for my file to be transferred to NYC. Then I have to wait another month for NYC to schedule an interview. Is it normal to have an interview after such a long wait? I filed AOS in February, and got biometrics done on 3/1, received my EAD card on 4/18.

  5. Since March 1st??? I don't see your timeline. Did you get your EAD? When did you file? NOA? Biometrics? I am in NY but no update on EAD or Interview date. Check timeline. If I were you then I would definitely call them!

    Approximate Time Line:

    2/4 Mailed 485/765/131

2/19 The original 485 filed as employment AOS was transferred to local USCIS office

3/1 Figure Print Done, 485 shows testing and interviewing

    4/10 EAD/AP approved

    4/18 Received EAD/AP

If I call, would they give me the same canned message, asking me to wait another 30 days?

  6. Hi there, my wife filed an i-485 last year based on employment, but the priority date retrogressed. We filed another i-485 this month based on family, which has a current priority date. I read somewhere in this forum that before the interview at a local USCIS office, we need to request two I-485s to be combined.

Does anyone have the link to the information on how to combine these two I-485s? Thank you!
