  1. I was looking at Igor's list to see the NOA1 v NOA2 dates. Hey - there's no point checking my own dates as nothing is happening anytime soon chez CSC.

What I was pondering is the variability in dates of NOA2 v NOA1. I can sorta understand that someone coming from a fraud country might have to wait longer. What I find odd is that two people from the same country might have completely different NOA1>NOA2 periods. Shirley they are stacked on the overflowing shelves of CSC in incoming data sequence and they get pulled off the shelf in order.

OK OK stop laughing and sniggering at the back

There must be some logic to the system ?

'k, I regret that I don't have any kind of answer for your question here--just wanted to take this opportunity to say, "and don't call me 'Shirley'".

  2. actually I have seen many posts and comments here towards the recipients themselves. one just a few days ago by a man from Canada whining that his fiance had to wait because of the "illegals" as he put it from the Dream Act..

here is the link...read about 5 or 6 lines down...this is one of many people I have seen make similar remarks http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/420950-is-it-really-worth-it/

Actually that ranter you speak of was a USC (with a Canadian fiancee).

  3. Yeah, it's not legal because you would be lying to CBP upon entry.

He's the deal, my wife did AOS inside the country and it took about six months to get married, get papers together, money, file and get approved. It wasn't very fun for her after 2 months. I don't make an amazing income so she didn't have too much to do, she got really bored waiting. It was nice to have each other, but it is a long time to wait without a lot of income to spend on things/do things.

You will need to look into this, but in Canada, depending on which you file CR-1 or K-1, will depend or which consolate you go to. I think all K-1's are done in Montreal. So basically if you live in Smithers, BC you will need to fly to Montreal for the interview. Which can be a problem for some people and is a pretty big expense considering cost of flights in Canada.

I don't know too much about these processes but you should look into it to figure out if CR-1 or K-1 is easier for you.

I think the easiest would probably be to get married in the USA or Canada, then file CR-1. While you are waiting, you can both work, and since you are not too far away you could likely visit throughout the process as usual.

Just read in to all the things you need before you get started. Is your medical okay? Criminal history? Does USC spouse make enough money or will a co-sponsor be needed? Do you have your birth certificate with both parents listed on it?

Research and find the best option for both of you. Good Luck.

K1s are done at Vancouver Consulate, as well.

  4. You're moving quickly since NOA2, good for you! I think Packet 4 contains instructions for booking interview and how to pay fee, doesn't it? (I think I read this somewhere, but can't remember where--I'm curious, myself)

  5. Yes, NikiR, definitely a larger burden for the beneficiary. My USC fiance's life goes on pretty much as before (except he misses me). For me, on the other hand, the upheaval is complete, and the unexpected delay in obtaining the visa is a large part of the reason I find myself in my present situation--living in rural BC where I know exactly no one; unable to work; and about to become homeless in a few weeks. I plan to move to Vancouver and sponge off friends until I get my visa or they grow to hate me, whichever comes first. I have trepidations about the future in the U.S. but at this point, I'd just like to get at it. Life in limbo is no fun.

  6. Hmmmm, on Chrome, selecting K3/K4, I get this:

On IE, selecting K3/K4, I get this:

On both selecting K1/K2, I get this:

Looks like a poor website/browser issue to me.

So which is the real one?

Crazy! On Chrome, I STILL get the same numbers as before: 5 months, 10.2 months, and 6.6 for CSC as of Dec 31st 2012. Whatevs! Guess the important point is that the freakin' NOA2 is still nowhere to be seen.

    Your fee dollars at work!

  7. They were processing cases from July 18th as of January 31st 2013 (it says so at the top of the chart on USCIS site). Since then, they've processed later ones, but that won't be reflected on the USCIS site until later updates.

  8. Although, to be fair to the OP, I don't think he misunderstood...I do think the phone agent told him that, because I just called and was informed "since they are on July 18th, in 26 days you can call back and we will file a service request". I just said " OK, thanks"

They are just lying to get you off the phone.

This is one of the things that peeves me the most...the blatant misinformation they spew. Our fee dollars at work.

    diabolical.

  9. This isn’t true. You don’t need a SSN to open a US account.

OP: You can open a US TD Bank Account and/or an RBC USA account from Canada. TD you can do over the phone and RBC at your local Canadian Branch.

Both banks give you the ability to just transfer the money across the border either way.

You’ll want to leave at least one Canadian account open for your government refunds and/or EI payments.

Good to know. I was not aware RBC had this option. thanks!
