That doesn't make it the best. That just makes it your personal preference. Which is perfectly OK.

The premise was that America is not the greatest country in the world. That presumes nothing but takes a realistic view of the fact that this nation is losing ground in many areas. People elsewhere are happier, healthier, better educated or wealthier. That's a simple, verifiable fact. Why must one ignore facts to be allowed to live here?

I don't think any country is the greatest. They all have their good parts and bad parts.
I live in the USA because that is where my husband lives and works. I do like a lot of stuff about living where I live (variety of food and scenery) but I wouldn't say it is the greatest place to live.

Sometimes you can't live in the best country for you, for one (do I even need to mention that on a visa site?). Also, every country will have faults. Even if you prefer one to the other, you can still be critical of some aspect of it.

You're the one stating that it's the best. Why can't you back that up with any actual answers? Other than that's how you feel? It's fine to have that opinion, but why get snippy when someone asks WHY you feel that way?
I've already explained why I'm here. Time for you to answer MY question.

I keep hearing America is the best place to be, but nobody will tell me what that's based on. Quality of life? Education? Economy? Health? What is America #1 at?
That doesn't mean I think choosing to live here is "slumming" it. It isn't, by any means. This is still a great country. But let's look beyond the blind patriotism and admit its fault and say it isn't as good as it could be and it isn't as amazing as we like to believe it is.
For some reason, there are some people who truly believe that people all over the world are just desperate to come and live in America. That isn't the case.

    Good for you.
There is nothing wrong with loving your country. There is something wrong with suggesting anyone with any complaints about it should leave, though. There's also something wrong with blind patriotism that means you shut out or ignore anything that goes against your #1 mentality.

Or one could simple recognize that there are a number of good places in the world and that there really isn't any exceptionally great place out there at all. When one lives in a country that lags behind other countries in so many areas and leads in so few, it's hard to see how that makes it the greatest place on earth. And one ought to be allowed to say that without inviting comments that one should move. We're all adults here, no?

If it's as simple as 'love it or leave it,' why would we ever elect a new president, build a new city, or change/add/remove laws?
I don't think it's love it or leave it. I think it's 'love it, change it, or leave it.'
I would also venture to say that the U.S. is so big, it's hard to say if you love it or not, depending on the part of it you're in. Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Alaska, San Francisco, and Nashville all have extremely different cultures, ways of life, and even climates. Making it as cut and dry as 'love it or leave it' isn't very good. For me, there are parts I would love and parts I would leave.

As has already been shown in Florida, if anything, drugs testing has resulted in extra costs to the state, and the only beneficiaries were the private clinics employed to do the testing.

Now THAT is funny! Could you imagine some of the keyboard heroes from this board going up against the type of weaponry and manpower that was displayed last week in Boston? The laundrymats would be overflowing with people trying to wash the stains off their soiled undies.
And that was just law enforcement. They didn't even bother to bring out the big guns!
