CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia teenager returned to class Monday wearing the same National Rifle Association T-shirt that led to his suspension and arrest after he refused a teacher's order last week to remove it.

i really don't understand why this is news.

we were asked to turn our shirts inside out all the time in highschool - you did it or got suspended. is it because the shirt says NRA - does that mean the tshirt is honorable or something?

if it has a gun on it, that's probably why he was asked to turn it inside out.

Yes you were asked to flip your tshirt when tshirt was not as per the dress code of the school.

In this incident the student was wearing the tshirt without violating the dress code of the school, it was one single teacher who did not like what he was wearing.

Its free speech, kid has his rights.

guns = violence. so i stick with my assumption that the shirt is against school dress code.

kids in public school generally do not have open ended free speech rights, in case you're unaware..

reads to me like he started up with the cop who was called when he started up in the office.

They told him to take off the shirt in the principals office with cops present, I guess, and he said no. So tell him to go home until he can put on a different shirt, for goodness sake. They shouldn't arrest someone unless he/she actually did something wrong.

It's almost surprising that the teacher wasn't arrested on charges of child molestation for asking the kid to take the shirt off in the first place. We really have a screwy system.

Thats assumption OR nothing happen with the cop and they did not have anything else to book him with.

So the cop charged him because he didn't like his t-shirt and needed an excuse to bring him in?

i think he should be allowed to wear the shirt, personally. but rules are rules. and when a teacher tells your shirt is against dress code - change or be changed.

as far as the arrest thing goes, that's status quo. cops arrest elementary kids anymore for next to nothing, this will only get worse as our private prison industry booms..

It was nothing but show of power, since they could not book him more or likely they booked him for resisting.

If you are not aware most police dept use this tactic and later on in most cases the charges are dropped.

This is very frightening to me, because, in the coming months, my fiancee's kids will be coming from a country where children are relatively free to do whatever they want. If they were to ever get arrested for something this stupid, I would be ashamed to have even suggested that we live in the U.S., as opposed to just staying in Mongolia.
