Never been thru LAX, but Chicago O'Hare was huge, i think bigger than Detroit. It really doesnt matter tho as long as you allow at least 2-3 hours to catch your connecting flight. That should give you plenty of time to get thru immigration and freshen up before you meet the hubby :lol:

It`s ok...thanks for replying. Curious about flowers ...have you ever thought of sending him flowers on special occasions? I once thought of sending him flowers but he didn`t like the idea. He thinks flowers are for ladies only...but in my opinion guys should receive flowers from their partners too once in a while

* We chat everyday using yahoo (sometimes we webcam too) and MSN (when I am at work).
* He send me flowers, chocolates and teddy bear on special occasions.

* I send him mail packages on special occasions.

I think i am a bit late in replying in this thread. I read this thread 2 or 3 days ago but I didn't had time to reply

My guy didnt think much of the flowers idea either...you could go with something he really likes, maybe a dvd or a game or whatever he does for fun...or maybe even a toy he had when he was a kid that he really loved. And when you get here you can bake/cook his faves (food trumps flowers IMHO :whistle: )

Wow! Nice to meet you here ...what course? BS Chemical Engg ako...but still finishing my MS degree...I'll be 30 next year too...siguro batch mate tayo..hehe 1997 ako...

I don't think it was really wasted. Over that time we really were able to get to know each other very well. He was finishing law school and I was (still am) finishing my masters. He also works full time and so did I, so getting travel time was hard for both of us especially since his law school would not let him miss too many classes. As soon as that was done though he came to see me and has been here many times since, so it doesn't bother me. That time really allowed us both to get our school out of the way so we could enjoy a great future together.
Oh.. and he isn't married (never been) and our ages are just ten month apart, so no worries there either.

It took us 6 years too, just didnt wanna rush into it...we'll both be 30 next year and sometimes I wish we got married sooner. 3rd wedding anniv on the 4th!

How close is it to Dayton, Ohio? I will be in Dayton in August. Hope I can meet you around and be friends. :-)
By the way, why is your POE in Detroit? Can't it be in Dayton or columbus? Does it mean that my POE would be in Detroit as well? please let me know! Thanks!

It depends on the airline you travel with...I dont believe any international carrier has their hub in Dayton or Columbus...the airport in Dayton is way too small for one thing. She was probably on a Northwest flight like I was, and had a connecting flight to Cinci.

Anyhow, happy travels! Get driving as soon as you can so you can explore the area. There will be a new outlet mall opening this August (supposedly) in Monroe (it's between Dayton and Cincinnati, so you guys might want to meet there hehe) :thumbs:

Thanks much folks! I guess I have to get my Mama to sign up for a landline again. She had it disconnected cuz all the kids have moved out and we all have cellphones...Or I guess I can at least get that Time Warner home phone to make call connections to cellphones clearer (and I think it will save us money bundled with cable and internet)...

Cant I set up magicjack here and call them? Or does that only work the other way? Cuz my sister's in-laws have magicjack and she called my cell here in the US once using it and she got thru fine

My main goal is to be able to call cellphones in the phils as economically as possible. If there really is no cheap way, I just want a reliable connection. No luck with that so far. :wacko:

Well I set up my LAYA account last night and just tried using it a few minutes ago. Couldnt keep the connection going to my sister's cell, called my mom on her cell and got disconnected after 3 mins. Maybe it works better with landlines. Thanks for the tip anyway, it will be my emergency calling account.

So what's this Rebtel and how does it work? I would appreciate the info, thanks much!

Anyhow for landline to landline calls there's International OnePrice with Time Warner. Ibelieve it's 1000mins/mo to the Phils for $19.95...sounds good, but no one in my family has a landline anymore :wacko:

P.S. My family and I already do voicechat on Yahoo but I just wanna be able to call them on their phones in an economical and dependable way, esp. when they arent online or answering my text messages :wacko:

Oops! Let me correct myself: the requirement is to get married within 90 days of your entry to the US, so as long as you get here before that visa expires, you should be fine. I dont think the date is important for anything else, esp. not when you file for AOS. Cheers!

Hi,

Your K-1 visa expires 6 months after it's issued because it is a requirement that you get married within that timeframe to the person who petitioned you. That's the only thing the visa is for, so goodluck choosing how to get married :star:

As for the vaccines, if the requirements are still the same (obviously it's been awhile for me, based on my timeline), i think it's MMR and TD? I had mine done after I got here, you have to shop around for an affordable clinic, it can get expensive so call around to check. Same with when you do the medical paperwork for AOS when you have to look for a civil surgeon (but that comes after the wedding, so get hitched first before anything else! :yes: )

Hi all,

I've been reading posts here and havent found anything that talks about a good card to use in calling the Phils...one thread mentioned the rechargeable card called LAYA, and i wanted to know how to set that up. I also wonder if there are other recommendations from all of you in the know. I live in Podunk, Ohio and I have yet to find a card that has decent minutes and a clear connection. Sometimes texting and chat just dont cut it for talking to the folks back home. Thanks so much for your replies! :star:

If the "last updated" date changes that means you were "touched" :star:

Usually the actual text in the status wont change until you get approval (or an RFE i guess)

Just to give you an idea, the only touch i got was the day after biometrics, then nothing for 3 months until approval
