This has just reminded me that I also have a SSN from when I was in the US on an J visa 11 years ago. I did not keep the little card I was given as never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever be returning to the US on a Fiance visa.
Can anyone advise me how I would be able to retrieve my SSN or would it just be something to mention when I go the the office to apply for one after I arrive in the US?
Do you have the number still. I think you can get a replacement card.
-
No, you need not apply for the second time..An SSN is valid for a person’s entire lifetime, so it is a one-time application. Your assigned number will never change over your life time.
Awesome. thank you

Hi,
I had an SSN when I was in the US on F-1 visa (had co-ops in our school). When I go to the US on K-1 visa can I skip the SSN part of the process or do I need to do something regarding it?

Good morning... it takes one week for your number. Go to the traveldocs website, and email the DS230 AND APPLICANT STATEMENT. They will then send you packet 4. It may take a week. I was a harasser so.... they probably was tired of me. I was unable to pay for visa. Its best to pay the 240 on the day of the interview. Good luck.
Thanks!

Hello for packet 3, I emailed the DS 230 and the applicant statement.I received the email of packet four electronically and hard copy included with appointment letter. Let me know if u have anymore questions.
I missed this reply.
i finally got my NOA2 last Friday. New delhi seems to be a little slower than Mumbai Embassy. I'm reading so much about people not getting their packet 3 nd 4 and all this confusion.
So, when I get my case number and NVC tells me that my case has been forwarded to the Embassy, should I expect a packet 3 in the mail? Or should I make a profile on ustraveldocs, and I can download packet 3 forms from there? Then mail it to the embassy ? I'm a little confused here. Any help would be much appreciated. Dont want to waste time in getting my interview date.

The universe is smiling
just got the I129 approval!!!
Congratulations!

Congratulations on your NOA2!!! We waited about a week after we got it then my fiancé called NVC and we were given out case number so that I could book my medical. Medical booked for February 5th and just received packet 3 this morning!!
Thanks. I hope it moved fast now and I get my medical+interview dates soon enough.
Question to all of you veterans and people 'in the know'.... how can you tell when your file has been 'touched'? Thanks in advance, and good luck to everyone still waiting. My adjudication window keeps moving (forard... argghhh) but it has settled into next week.
Did you make an account on USCIS and add your case number to it? It tells you when your case was last "touched" if you log in.
We got approved too, guys.. Simply cannot believe in it! 6 months and 1 week!
Congratulations! Wishing you a smooth journey here onwards.

oh hey, you have date of 18th july last touched 23rd of july. we are 19th last touched 23rd, presumably that's when we were put in a box, maybe we were in a box with you guys and will be next! that'd be pretty sweet
congrats anyway wishing you speedy interview stage
Haha yeaaa hopefully you'll have your NOA2 early next week. I hope everybody gets done soon this tests your patience so much.
Btw does anybody know what happens now? How do you track your case now? (whether its left for nvc, left for the embassy from nvc etc)

Got approved today, it was in line with VJ prediction. Good luck to all of you who haven't gotten approved or have RFE's. Keep us updated! Took 191 days.

190 days. :'(
I really dont think calling is going to matter, which is why I'm not trying. But who knows. Maybe someone'll get lucky. So the ones who havent been approved yet...what are you doing to keep yourself from going crazy. Cuz I'm failing miserably. When I wake up and I know since I havent gotten a call from my fiance in the middle of the night, that there has been no NOA2 today. This week has been awful I was seriously fine till about 2 weeks ago.
-
190 days *Sigh* :'(
I feel myself losing it this week. I was so calm for 5 and a half months.
-
I'm a July 9 k1 filer just received email January 21 stating I received a Rfe so I'm waiting for it to come in the mail..... Hopefully it's nothing complicated
Oh that sucks. i'm really hoping i just get a smooth approval but who knows. Let us know what its about when you get the hard copy!
-
Thanks. Hard to proof this since I call him in the middle of the night and sometimes when he just wakes up from bed and sometimes he is still in bed. But I will place the relationship in the Hands of God.
So sad, but you are right. Thanks for the advice.
I think from the above it can be ascertained that he's not seeing someone else, or he's not using you for money, or shopping for the best deal.
I know a lot of people here talk to each other a lot , for hours even. I dont know how that happens. My fiance and I didn't like being seen on the phone, or chatting really at work. The only time we would get to talk was if i woke up at 5am, which I did do but it was hard to do everyday. Then we had weekends. I remember the time we were filing was crazy busy at work for the both of us, both of us were fighting a deadline, and we filed our application a month and a half later than we'd planned to. Things can get busy, people can be work-aholics. He could be worried about Money, not having a job for a few months when he moves. Its easy to say, oh its a small amount of time in the grand scheme of things and it is, but it is worrisome when you're working so hard, its not easy to just give that up. i'm speculating a lot here, but it doesnt really sound like he's a bad guy.Maybe he wants to secure the money first and then apply?
But if he isnt making you happy of course its not worth it. I just think from what you've said it didn't sound (to me atleast), that he's upto no good or something. Communication is key. He should understand why you'r upset and try to rectify it.

So start of a new week. Hope to see lots of approvals. *fingers crossed*

I know if i call they're going to tell me they can't help me yet i'm still within their timeframe according to the website. So i haven't bothered. And at this point nothing is helping me, I'm the USC so other than going to work and being busy during the day, the evening and the weekends are dreadful for me. I tell myself I'm not going to check the websites, i'm just going to ignore it all and one day that wonderful text or email will come but instead like you, i find myself checking each morning just in case...The first few months weren't so bad because I knew it would be at least 5 months, once we hit that, it's just gotten worse for me every day and now that we're at 6 months, i just want to cry all the time. This waiting...no one but those of us going through this can understand how awful it is.
Yea, the first few months were better. Now when I see people from 18th July I check to see if I've been approved also, its sad because I know if we've been approved my fiance would get an email and he would have forwarded it to me already lol. I hate weekends now because no applications will be processed, and this monday is also a holiday i believe. I just keep thinking its going to happen sometime in the next 3 weeks, it has to. And thats not so bad compared to the 6 months I've already waited.
Sigh I spend a lot of time tricking my mind into calming down and not focus on this.
The wait is awful. You miss out on so many things you could be doing together.
-
i hope so. thank you for your encouragement
It'll be alright, its just a few more weeks of waiting at most I believe. It's likely that we'll hear something by the end of next week. 2-3 weeks more is nothing compared to the 6 months we've already waited. Hope you get your NOA2 soon. After that things will atleast start to move.

Good morning.... yes we have received our packet #4 and interview letter. Email support_@ indiatraveldocs.com. verify this email I just woke up. Attach your DS230 and applicant statement. Informed them of how long you have been waiting. Also use blue dart(DHL) to send the hard copy. My fiance interview is march5th and medical is feb 19th. So hurry. Oh I forgot... make a profile on the india visa website, you know the one that you pay for the visa by demand draft. When I get to work I will email you the link.. good luck.. let me know the outcome. Have a nice day!
Thank you for the information. What did you have to do for Packet 3? Did you receive it electronically or in mail, and do you have to reply to it via email also?
And again, Packet 4 was also a hard copy?

The tourist visa is difficult in many countries due to fraud rates. Someone successfully applying for AOS based on a tourist visa, in the eyes of the USCIS did not commit fraud, and would have absolutely no impact. You should be frustrated at people who do it illegally, and not confuse it with people who use the process as it was intended. Visitor visa does not prohibit marriage and AOS. It prohibits entering with INTENT to AOS.
Yes, I agree. I went off-topic. My issue, again is not AOS, or even people entering the country to get married or whatever. I feel if someone has to get married they'll do that any way they can anyways. My frustration lies with the rejection rate of Tourist visas in countries such as mine, because of fraudulent cases, or where there is Intent to adjust your status, and not enough scrutinization perhaps for people who're AOS-ing to inspect their intent. Like if someone came to get a job, get a statement from the company as to when the person had an interview with them. I dont know if things like that are possible. But I'd like checks like that, most people I know personally who've gotten rejected is because of the job thing, when they have no intention to do anything like that.

It doesnt annoy me as a K-1 visa applicant. It annoys me as a previously potential tourist visa applicant. I've spent 6 years in the US and I came back to my country on my own accord, and I did not risk applying for a B-1 visa ever because I knew me and my boyfriend would one day want to apply for K-1 and i dint want to risk a tourist visa rejection on my record. I wanted to go to the US to meet all my friends too not just my boyfriend, I would be perfectly open to saying to the Embassy Officer, that hey, i want to go meet my school friends and also my boyfriend. And that would be perfectly honest. But I knew it wouldnt work. Most of my friends who've come back to my country after college have gotten their tourist visa rejected. So I spent thousands of dollars meeting in other countries and I din't even get to see my friends that way, only my boyfriend.
So it annoys me that people use the Tourist visa and then do things like get a job or get married WHICH THEY INTENDED TO DO,or something that they weren't allowed to do. And honest people like me will have to worry about having a possible rejection because of this. I don't think they should be allowed. They can leave the country, apply for the correct visa and then come back. This is not out of spite, I dont want them to suffer and wait just because i am waiting. I just dont want the tourist visa abused.
Edit: I dont think it should be gotten rid of all together, because sometimes situations can demand it. But it should be scrutinised to see whether something actually changed for the people to require it.

USCIS website says they're working on June 4 and I have July date I assumed I couldn't call yet because they're going to tell me I'm withing normal waiting times. It's getting so frustrating seeing approvals after our date day in and day out. I just want to cry
Yea I touched 6 months on friday also. I dont feel like asking my fiance to spend hours on the phone during work hours because I'm not even sure if calling them will achieve anything. I'm trying to force myself to focus on other things like work, spending time with friends and family while i still can. It helps for a while but then i still end up checking whether we're approved first thing in the morning. I hate that.

I just e-mailed off my packet 3. Everything seems to be moving so fast now!
Doesnt the packet 3 that you sent require police certificates/passport clearances also? Did you already have them ready when you received your Packet 3 via email. Or do you need them at the time of the interview only?
-
does anyone from VSC know what NOA1 dates they are processing now?? I'm thinking about calling next week if i dont hear anything by friday. I'm NOA! jul 6th.
Their official page says June 4th, and from other threads in this forum ive heard even if you call them you get the same answer, processing the date they show on their page.

Our NOA1 is 07/18/12 and I have been a wreck for DAYS!!
I'm trying to be calm and patient but it's not going so well...
I check USCIS like 5x/day. LOL
I'm July 18th too. Glad to know I'm not the only one. makes you do that more when you see dates around you or the same as yours being approved right ? lol. I need a distraction for my downtime.
