  1. Hi everyone! I had my interview yesterday and was APPROVED!!!!!  ☺️

The interview went awesome, so much better than I expected it to.

My interview was scheduled for 11.30, at 11.33 an Immigration officer came to get me and took me to his office. He introduced himself and asked me how I was today, I replied with ok, but really nervous. He said please don't be nervous, I'm not here to interrogate you. He asked me to take out my passport and green card and apologised as he would be talking to me, but mainly looking at the computer screen. There was one small problem he had to sort out with my case, when I had entered the US one time, they had two different identities listed for me. He said it was their problem, not mine and he would sort it out after my interview.  He then asked if I'd changed my name in a court,  replied no and said is it about the second middle name I left off? I explained there was never enough room on forms to put it, but he could add it. He filled out a form to change my name on the application (not a problem).

I was asked to put both my index fingers on a scanner. He then read some of my details off the form on the computer, name, phone number, address etc. He then asked me to write "The flag is red white and blue", then he asked the test questions:

    What is the highest court?

    Who is the chief Justice?

What was Abraham Lincoln most famous for?

What is the longest river in America?

Who was the father of our country?

What was the first 10 amendments called?

I got all 6 right, so he didn't ask anymore questions. He told me I'd passed the test! He then went through all my answers on the form and asked if I understood the oath. I replied yes. He explained it again as I can keep dual nationality.  We chatted about England and how he loved the food there. Then he told me I was approved! It took 43 minutes (would have been less, but we chatted!)

All in all, a very positive experience and a lovely immigration officer.

I use this website for it: https://civicsquestions.com

you put in your location the first time, and then it will include your state capital, house representative, senators, and governor in the questions. It is like a flash card since it only shows you the question... and then you answer and then press a button to see if you were right or not.

Thanks for this website! I just took a 10 question test and got all 10 correct!

They are saying in the letter that the process will take about two hours is this normal?

Seems normal. They have to give the civics test. They go through the whole application form and check your writing and understanding of English.

It maybe a bit quicker I guess if you're English or speak/write/understand English very well and have an uncomplicated case! But 2 hours seems a good estimate for what they have to do.

May I ask you about the interview note. Do they ask to bring any documents with you?

This is what they asked me to bring on my interview notice:

You MUST BRING the following with you to the interview:

    • This letter.

    • Your Alien Registration Card ("green card").

    • Any evidence of Selective Service Registration.

    • Your passport and/or any other documents you used in connection with any entries into the United States.

    • Those items noted below which are applicable to you:

    If applying for NATURALIZATION AS THE SPOUSE of a United States Citizen;

    • Your marriage certificate.

    • Proof of death or divorce for each prior marriage of yourself or spouse.

    • Your spouse's birth or naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship.

    If applying for NATURALIZATION as a member of the United States Armed Forces;

    • Your discharge certificate, or form DD214.

If copies of a document were submitted as evidence with your N400 application, the originals of those documents should be brought to the interview.

I got a notification that my case is still reviewing and no update even I did not do my biometric yet supposes to do it 18 March.  So is this normal?

Thats so quick so do you have your 10 GC already?

Hi,  yes I do have my 10 year green card. My window to apply for citizenship opened 2 years ago. I didn't apply then as I was studying for my bachelors in teaching.  I think New Hampshire has a lower number of immigrants, so it's quicker.

  7. You will get the biometrics appt online, mine showed up around 3-4 days after sending my online application. They usually schedule the biometrics appt for 3 weeks later.

I always go on the appointment day, but I live 1 hour 30 mins drive from my local office, so I wouldn't want to take a day off from work, travel all that way to be turned away. However plenty of people have gone before their appt day/time.

  8. Questions:

    1. Yes it saves your answers and will store your application for 1 month, if you haven't completed it by then it gets deleted. After you have completed the application you can pay with a credit card and when that goes through the system automatically submits your application.

    2. After you have finished filling out the application (before you pay) their system, checks the form for you and will show a red/yellow/green or no flag to indict if you forgot to fill something out or need to up load more evidence. Unless your case is a difficult one, I wouldn't pay for a lawyer. I've done the whole process without one, only using vj to ask questions and read others people's experiences.

    4. Where you get to the part of uploading evidence, it will tell you which files types you can upload,  I did pdf.

    5. You will get a notification.

    6. I paid my speeding ticket by mail, so had no receipt. I went to the DMV and paid $15 for my drivers history, which shows that you have paid, I also included a copy of the check. Your email receipts sound fine.

    7. If you are doing the n400 based on being married for 3 years, they will tell you the evidence they need. I'm still married, but I filled under the resident for 5 years.

    9. see answer for question 5.

  9. I just spoke to the DMV, the lady said she couldn't get a receipt for me, but I could show my bank statement with the check that I used to pay and also I could get a certified copy of my driving record for $15 and that would also show I had paid the ticket.

Luke U, I have no idea about English tickets, sorry.

  10. Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to file for citizenship but had 3 questions:

    1) The form asks if you have ever been arrested, cited or detained. I looked up the definition for a citation and it says it's an official summons. I had a speeding ticket 2 years ago, which I paid by mail, this wouldn't count as a citation as I was not summoned to court???

    2) I will be applying as I've been a lawful permanent resident for 5 years (I'm also still married to my husband) so I'll only have to send in a photocopy of my green card, 2 photos and checks for the fees? not the rest of the info??

    3) My 11 year old son came over with me and has a green card. After I become a citizen, can I apply for a passport for him? What is the process?

    Thanks for the help!
