  1. It would be either 5 years or when he becomes a US Citizen. If he immigrated with you and is a permanent resident at the time you apply for citizenship and if it is before his 18th birthday then he would be eligible for Medicaid once he becomes a US Citizen.

I thought children could not become citizens until they were 18?

He did immigrate with me, next year I will be applying for citizenship, can I apply for him too? He will be 8. I'm confused.

I was saying, I was told 5 years, as my son was 5 at the time.

  2. Had my biometrics today. Got there at 8am and was out by 8.30am.

There's a big possibility my fingerprints won't take, as they didn't the last time and I had to go a second time. I asked the lady if I could do an earlier walk in after I receive the second appointment. She said no, they don't take walk ins. She then added they were short staffed and walk ins were 'discouraged' In other words they do take them, but don't like them!

I'm not planning on doing an earlier walk in, but I was curious as to how they would answer. And there was a bit of a debate about it on here :)

The lady said there's a slim chance they might be able to read my fingerprints, and cheerfully said she would probably see me back here in 3 weeks.

The staff were all polite and friendly, overall a positive experience.

  3. You should have received a second letter, maybe a week after receiving your wife's NOA 1.

My son is not mentioned on my letter. But his letter is on official headed paper and says ''verification of inclusion of a dependent in filing of form I-751''

It also says further down ''You may travel outside the United States and return during this one year period upon presentation of both your alien registration receipt card and this verification''

I would call and find out where the letter has gone.

  4. does anyone know a number I can call to find out whats going on? Monday they recieved my documents according to USPS but no check has been cashed no NOA received.

If you check the CSC and VSC lists, there are a lot of people that sent their packages before you and haven't received an NOA yet. You have to wait a month before calling.

I've been waiting almost 2 weeks!

  5. My fingerprints can never be read. For my first GC I had to go twice. If the first set don't take, they will send you a letter with another appointment. After my second set, I didn't hear anything for 6 months (when they picked my file up again), then they called me and told me my second set could not be read. They asked me to bring in a police clearance letter, from where I've been living and I also had to swear an oath, that I hadn't been in trouble. This time I'm planning on taking the letter with me the second time and making an appointment there and then to take an oath. Hopefully it will save another 4 hour round trip!

Don't worry about it, I was told 1 in every 10 women have fingerprints that cannot be read. It was not a problem for me last time. :)

  6. Phone up and get your tax transcripts sent to you and include those in your package. It takes about 10 days to receive them after you have phoned.

They want to see evidence of financial mingling. Do you have joint credit cards?

    Joint car/health insurance? Life insurance?

Your bank statements need to show the duration of your marriage, so for the last 2+ years, but maybe just quarterly statements.

Are you sending any photos? From your cruise, etc?

  7. I have gone through this entire process without an attorney, there is a ton of great information on here and a lot of knowledgeable people that have been through the process that will answer questions you have. But first spend some time reading the pinned threads.

You have a lot of good evidence and you can get affidavits from your family to say you are living together with them.

Ultimately it's your decision to use an attorney, I don't know anything about the process of hiring one.
