  1. If you want to be fully prepared for all expenses, including filing the I-129F, medical costs, visa and courier fees and then the follow up fees for adjustment of status (AOS), employment authorization (EAD) and advance parole (AP) allow about $1500.

agreed! I haven't gotten that far yet but it's what I have estimated. I'm already at $368 combined with fiance for gathering required stuff/mailing/petition plus birth cert. and passport. I'm keeping tabs of everything spent!

  2. I wouldn't go with hitting or abusing option. from what u posted i wouldn't think this is an option.

Ahem, since you quoted me in your post, I'd just like to clarify that I as well did not consider the "abuse possibility" for this particular poster, since I wrote:

"But from your post I would say that's about the furthest thing from your mind".

Just wanted to make sure I was not misunderstood :)

Completely not taken as if you were actaully suggesting doing that!

I didn't take it as you were. i took at as ur were just pointing out the only or technical reason in getting green card now. :) your counseling idea was good!

  3. make sure you sign the cheque!!! :)

    This was our first mistake.

The other was "your own statement (statement made by petitioner, john ***) which must include the date place and circumstances of your meeting, and should be supported by copies of transportation tickets, photos, and or letters written to each other after your meeting.Additionally, photocopies of your and or your fiance passports, (including biographical data pages and pages showing entry/exit stamps, where applicable)showing that you both have been present in a given location at the same time may be submitted."

I had written the explanation of us meeting not him.

  4. My husband and I were engaged already when he came into the U.S. and we got married. However, we had no intention of marrying DURING that trip. It was COMPLETELY spur of the moment, and was put together in 3 days. When we had our interview the interviewer never once asked us if we had intended to get married when David entered the country. We also sent letters which talked about the fact that we were engaged, and engagement photos and things of that nature. So, INS KNEW we were engaged. We never had to lie about it at all. Thank God. It worked out for us, but it was nerve wracking, and I never give people the advice to do it the way we did. I happen to think that even though it took as long as it did, we were lucky.

    -Erin

wow I really didn't know you could do that. So even though I am engaged and planning on getting married sometime in the future, but I go there to visit my fiance and i get an idea while there and say 'hey let's getting married right now today' Than that's ok and i could adjust status? (It's completely hypothetical as i have already started k1.) Why wouldn't everyone that's engaged do it than?

  5. The problem with the RFE I am bound to get is that we lived in the same state for 4 years.. and I dont have anything else except thousands of pictures.. he did come over to visit me over xmas... but that was a recent thing would they except that? I dont know if he has any boarding passes.. I think he threw them away... I am so frustrated.. and I didnt even get the RFE yet!

Well if you graduated the same day (or year) and from the same school you could sumit a copy of this showing you both did indeed go to the same school and were in the same place for 4 years. xmas evidence would count if that was before you mail the petition. Any visits after don't count for meeting in the two years. i have read denial of petition because someone didn't have evidence before filing, but visited afterwards and than submitted that, which didn't work. purchases made to show you were in same location. letters from people stating they saw you together. Really I don't think you will have a problem of coming up with stuff if u lived together for 4 years.

Can anyone confirm that you CAN'T send in evidence after filing for them to accpet. i have heard you should wait but can you if what you sent was really lacking?

  6. Oh and another thing. I had reasons to think that I was getting a RFE but I sat back and waited to see. Mistake on my part. If you are really sure you are getting one than start gathering the info now to build a strong case and have it waiting with the USC. I didn't do this and to get all the evidence to include it's going to take me two weeks for it to arrive (i ordered credit cards statements for purchases while there, among other things) and than more time to send it to fiance and than more time for him to send it to VSC. i'm thinking a month and a half extra added to when it should have been approved. grrr. my two cents :D

  7. thankgod there is someone as young as me...

and the whole RFE thing.... we were in such a hurry to send off the documents.. and we didnt know we had to really put any evidence so we put in a picture of us of graduation... but reading these threads recently I am sure that is not enough.. you are lucky you are doing this throughVSC

well im even younger. ;) I'm so glad there are younge couples out there too! If all the evidence you put in there was a picture of you graduating than I would say you really would get a RFE for that. Pictures are secondary and they really want to see passport stamps to show you have been together in the last two years. if you didn't send anything like that you have to just wait. I haven't heard of anyone being successful in sending off info to add after mailing petition. I have a RFE to deal with because I didn't send in enough. It wasn't really explained and they didn't seem to like it.

  8. No we weren't engaged when he got here, we decided to get married while he was down here visiting. But its ok either way we've decided to do the fiance visa and not risk anything!

sorry if i read something wrong than. I really think this is a wise decision to go with k1 route. I would so not chance messing it up. I would be worring every day that they would think we lied and it would mean a serious bar from the USA. I wish you the best of luck.

  9. As far as I know, the only real possibility would be if you were hitting or otherwise abusing her....then she could file for removal of conditions right away and would not need you at all.

But from your post I would say that's about the furthest thing from your mind (I actually think it's very nice of you to consider her future in the event of divorce).

So you basically would have to wait out the two-year-period of the conditional greencard (you can file for removal of conditions three months before the 2 years are over).....unless someone else knows of any other possibility? :(

May I suggest something totally different? Since you still seem to care about her, and you wrote that you are only just "considering" divorce, isn't there the possibility that marriage counseling might get you two "on track" again....? It would be a shame if you gave up after only one year of marriage...... :(

    Good luck,

    CW

I wouldn't go with hitting or abusing option. from what u posted i wouldn't think this is an option. I agree with the counseling and really trying here. I haven't heard of a faster way. If the USCIS people she you getting and possibly thinking about a divorce and she tries to get her full green card that would raise a red flag about her original intent. they might think it was just to get to the usa. I have heard someone who get a divorce after 5 years of being married that they went after her and tried to get her deported for misrepresentation or something along those lines. because they said it was just to get a visa to the usa, even though the marriage fell apart.

  10. I was just thinking,,,... and i might be just over thinking.. since i am reading these threads every day..

does anyone know if age plays any part in the K1 process?

I am 21... and I am thinking what if at the interview they may think I am too young... or not trust in our relationship? I ve known my fiance for 5 years.. and we love eachother....

    can anyone share their expirience?

    thanks

It's nice to see someone younge doing this too. I'm only 19, (soon to be 20) and my fiance just turned 21 last week. I've only known him for a year, but I know how I feel. I've never really questioned the age thing. (maybe i should. AHHH) It's stated you have to be over the age of 18 and as long as you are and have a valid relationship with lots of evidence to prove it I don't think you will have a problem. As for getting a RFE for your age I really don't think you would. I don't think they can doubt the relationship just on age. In this process every single thing will make you question if you will get it. I'm such a worrier too.

  11. It sounds like you want to marry a green card. I doubt you'll find many people here who are too sympathetic to your goal.

If your just looking for a way to stay in the USA than I would have to agree with rclouse.

Went back and read the OP's post again...I kinda agree with this too. No mention of a fiancée or anything.

I had to go back and read the OP's post again too. After reading rclouse's post I was like 'what??' and than i noticed the same.

I think you should be only looking into this process if you have already someone special in your life.

  12. Relax :D it will not go against him at the medical stage, he was not put on any medication, the doctor did the correct thing and gave him a bit of time off from work and told him to work out at the gym, there should be more doctor's like the one your fiance has. Good luck with the process.

    Janice

I agree too. I would think that if he only was depressed on starting this process and not for his whole life that it wouldn't be a problem. If it was a problem I don't think they would be letting any of us into the USA!

  13. Ok, I feel like I’m between a rock and a hard place! My fiancé has been staying with me for almost a month now and plans on staying with me until around august after my baby is born (no unfortunately the baby is not his). We were looking into the K-1 fiance visa but I know if we do that he’ll have to go home for god knows how long and that’s really freaking me out. We were thinking of just getting married since he’s already down here but I’m wondering if that’s ok to do?? We were told it could look bad that he came down to visit with no visa status or visitor thing or anything he just came through with his passport. If that’s to risky I’ll suck it up and do the fiancé one, but I guess even if we were to get married now would he still have to go back to Canada for a long time or could we process everything from here??

Anyone who could give me advice on this would be awesome!! Thank you so much!

Why can she just apply for AOS when clearly there is intent to get married for the fact Sweetdefiance mentioned they are engaged already? How can you tell someone when you apply for AOS that there was no intent on marriage on POE when you are engaged already? I would see this could work for someone who's not engaged or meeting someone while you are in the usa. but that's not the case here. if they do get married and adjust status now wouldn't they than have to lie about being engaged already?

I agree with gsmaclean's post about filing for the k1 visa now and since he is Canadian and can stay there for 6 months. You will be well into the process already and wouldn't, hopefully, have to wait that much longer to be back together.

  14. Since you are not engaged yet I wouldn't mention it. Your not lying about it since she isn't your fiance yet. this could save hassle. When i crossed the boarder at christmas I knew my fiance was going to propose when I was there but I didn't tell the POE people that. I just said I was going to visit my boyfriend for two weeks. no problems. I would tell them you are going to visit your girlfriend. that's still being honest.

creative idea for the ring? don't really know 1 except my experience. my fiance took me on a walk around town and we stopped at a park which had a big pine tree with white christmas lights. we were tall enough to go under the tree and the branches hung down low enough you couldn't see out all that well. our own little world. he propose there. man did the ring sparkle with all the lights reflecting off of it. but now it isn't winter.

  15. Hmmm....I wonder how a Timmy's would fly down here in the South?

the furthest south they've gone so far is Ashland, Kentucky where there are 2 stores.

I think they're concerned about getting further south, specifically North Carolina because that's Krispy Kreme land, (owned and operated out of Winston-Salem, NC). But now that KK isn't doing so well financially, maybe Timmy's could move in and take over :D

Regardless of Krispy Kremes financial position, they will not sink...And no way does the quality of Timmy's donuts(fresh frozen) come close to KK's(fresh), there is no competition there at all. Timmy's intends to double the number of stores in the States within the next three years, giving them eventually 500 stores total. I see most of these stores being Northern states where they will be competing with already established Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. The market in Canada is already saturated, so not much growth potential there either. Tim Horton's is a Canadian icon, and it is highly unlikely to take the US by storm as it has in Canada...but you can always hope and dream!!!

When I worked at Tim Hortons (in Canada) our donuts were not frozen. We made em in the back throughout the day. Same thing with the bagels, croissants, tea biscuits, cookies, etc.

I sadly worked at at tim hortons a year ago and the donuts are not baked fresh any more as to save time and to make sure the donut sizes are pretty much the same. the just heat up the frozen donuts in the oven. tastes fine to me. I sure did love eating the frozen cookie dough!

I have heard a lot of people say that the perfect store would be tim hortons coffee and krispy kreme donuts. Maybe they should combine.

  16. I wish you the best of luck. Can you not get barred from entering the usa for 3 plus years if you work in usa illegally? or does that only apply to if u were in the country illegally not considering working there?

  17. Looks like we fall into the minority who met gaming. We are both geeks (and proud of it) who met playing Everquest. I was a Half-elf Druid and he was a Dark-elf Necromancer  We now have two systems up and play along side each other in World Of Warcraft. Funny thing is we have our brothers, my son, a few friends of ours and now even his mother playing with us! It has become a great way to spend time together across the miles!

yay for fellow gamers! I met mine over x-box live on Halo 2 in a random matched up game. My fiance wants me to get into playing world of warcraft so bad. is that game really fun?
