  1. If you are a canadian citizen you can still vote in canadian elections. The best way to find out is to reach the canadian embassy near you. Be aware that if you are just a permanent resident it does not give you the right to vote

  2. Be careful with that...some pharmacies will not accept Canadian scripts! I had that problem all over my city. Once they saw it was from a different country, they wouldn't fill it. Luckily I had 6 months worth of pills on me, but I had to go to a doctor to get a new script filled!

My doctor here in Montreal gave me a 2 year prescription that i intend to fill here before i go

  3. In some cities, but in most, no one really hides the fact that they are gay anymore.

Many many many insurances cover birth control.

And if they don't, we have many family planning programs via your county health dept that offer affordable birth control. The shot costs between 35 and 75 at a planned parenthood.

Also, if you choose alternative methods such as the pill, you can get them cheap on generics from walmart.

I get 3 months of pills for $27.

Unfortunately the pill is not for me, too much sude effects and I have none with the shot ! My fiance's insurance dies not cover any birth control but i will definitely check the family planning program around ! Thanks for the tips !

  4. Well, the birth control itself is cheap (just $9 a pack at Walmart, a generic brand), thank goodness. Last time I got my prescription, I had no health insurance. This time around (I have to go back around December/January for another yearly prescription), I have health insurance through my work, so it should definitely be cheaper.

My doctor here gave me a 2 year prescription for depo provera wich i plan to bring with me ! It cost me about 49$/shot wich is good for 3 months. I cannot even imagine how much it will cost me in the US ! Even if i will be covered with my soon to be hubby, most insurance cie just dont cover birth control...

  5. Oh yes, how did I forget about the health care?!

    Let's see,

...visiting a clinic in Quebec to get a prescription for birth control: $0

...visiting a clinic in South Dakota to get a prescription for birth control: over $100

    Hmmmm....

That would be my greatest fear about living in the US ?

Even with a good insurance it is freaking expensive ! Healthcare is suppose to be a right, not a privilege but it seems money and greed is more important than anything in that business...that is super scary for a canadian, believe me !!

  6. I cross every month and make sure i have proif of ties in Canada but even with that I got questionned a lot ! Last time the border officer typed my name in the computer and searched my bag, wich was a first ! I'm wondering if its because I do have my interview soon ? I guess i am flag now ! Hopefully POE will go smootly

  7. NOTE (as of April 8, 2009): Even though the new on-line DS-160 replaces the DS-156 form, the interview date letter (packet 4) stated to complete and bring 2 copies of the DS-156. At the interview, the agent confirmed this was still required and will collect it from you, even though the packet 3 checklist does not state it as a requirement. The embassy will hopefully correct this conflicting information soon. So be prepared to complete and bring 2 copies of the DS-156 form, just in case.

So yes, make two more copies and take it with you during the interview

    Good luck!!

I have 1 copy if the original ones i mailed in my P3 ! Can I just make a photocopy of it or do I have to file a new one online ?

  8. Hi all !

I do have my interview on Oct 22nd and want to make sure I have everything ! I know they ask to bring the form DS 156 x2 wich i sent with packet 3 but i did print an extra copy at the time. I did not think at the time that they would asked for it at the interview too ! Should i redo it or just make a photocopy of the one i already have ?

    Thanks in advance

    :)

  9. I have posted this also in our own Feb forum, but since you guys are a little ahead of us, I wanted to ask your opinion ;)

My fiancee went to her medical appointment today and will pick the result up on Saturday. When she asked the doctor about a copy of her medical result (form DS-3025), no matter how hard she insisted, they refused to give her a copy and said that they will only give one copy for the embassy which would be in the sealed envelope. Maybe I am a little confused, but I have read that in order to avoid going to the medical check again in the US for AOS, we need a copy of that form. If this is true, our only chance is to ask the embassy to give her a copy of the DS-3025 form when they open the envelope, however don't know whether USCIS will accept that copy or it should have an original signature! Do you guys have any opinion or experience in this regard?

I got the same answer from the clinic in Montreal !!

  10. I'm waiting impatiently for my interview on Oct 22nd ! Git my medical results in a sealed enveloppe that i will not open loll

And also my police certificate !

Congrats to all of you whatever stage you are ! If everything gies smoothly i should be good to move to maine in mid november :) is anybody knows how long i should expect to wait to get my visa frim montreal consulate these days ?

I cannot wait ti be with my baby

  11. More venting than anything, but whatever you do... if you have a Montreal interview, make sure that you have all the paperwork you could possibly need.

They asked for additional paperwork from us.. we sent it in. The interviewer told me that everything was great, and all I needed to do was send in the one thing (Taxes,) and it would be done. Sent that in with my passport.

That was 4 weeks ago. I sent them 3.5 weeks ago. I've heard nothing at all from Montreal since then, they wouldn't even reply to say if they've gotten the package.

So I'm calling the DoS daily, and being told that they're processing it. They've reviewed it. They're reviewing it. etc etc. For 3 weeks, and still nothing back.

The worst part is that we are pretty much in limbo now.. We can't do anything yet, and can't even visit because they have my passport. I'm scared to ask for it back, since I can just imagine how slow they'll be when they ask for it the next time, and the not hearing anything at all is driving me nuts!!!

We've contacted our senators and congressman now, so hopefully that helps to speed things up.. But this process, at the final stage, is ridiculous.

Just a venting message, in hopes that someone reads this and realizes they aren't the only one, and that Montreal is slower than Quebecois molasses in February!

What do you mean by taxes ? The US petitioner'taxes or the canadian beneficiary ? Wichever how many years they were asking for ? Also can you be specific about all the paperwork they were asking for besides what is already listed in packet 4 ? Thank in advance and wishing you get your visa really soon ;)

  12. Thanks Sweetcheeksss,

I am sticking with my Exam scheduled in Montreal on Oct 2nd.

During my checking, I looked up the USCIS list of approved Civil Surgeons that can do this for the Visa process.

I then talked to a few of those listed Civil Surgeons in the Spokane area, and they all informed me that they do perform Visa exams all the time. The cost is the same as what I will pay in Montreal (+/- $10)

I also talked to NVC which said it is really up to the consulate you are interviewing through if they will accept the exam documents from a US Civil Surgeon. Since it seems to take an act of congress to get someone from the Montreal Embassy on the phone, I could not research this any further. When I am in Montreal, I will certainly broach the subject with one of the agents. I expect they will say it has to be done in Canada... but either way, I will report my findings back here after the interview.

The wording in the document you provided does state "must have the medical examination conducted by a panel physician approved by the visa issuing U.S. Embassy/Consulate." ... so my question to the Montreal Embassy will be for a list of their approved panel physicians, and if they will accept one from the USA. Can't hurt to ask, and maybe it will help a future VJ'er.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

    It's all in packet 4
