  1. My wife called the NVC a while ago and was told our case was completed and forwarded to the embassy in Stockholm. The priority date is July 2nd. I still haven't heard anything from the embassy. Should I try to get in touch with them? Should my wife call the NVC? Or do I simply wait? How will they contact me, e-mail? This waiting is getting on my nerves. :(

You can call DOS but I would definitely contact the Stockholm embassy by email. Put your case number in the subject field. They have been very helpful to me, always answered my emails in 1-2 business days.

  2. Hi Everyone,

I am wondering what did you do for your fiance/fiancee insurance when they just came to the USA?

I will be covered under my fiancee's insurance when we are married.

I know I can get travel insurance from Denmark, but somehow it doesn't make sense to me to get travel insurance from here since I won't be back for some time.

In case of emergency, medevac etc, wouldn't it be better to get temporary insurance in the USA?

Does anyone know any insurance company that offer service specifically for "K-1 foreigner" before marriage?

    Thanks

  3. Hi,

I just got a copy of the form DS-3025 vaccination worksheet and I am not sure how to interpret it.

Most of the boxes are checked "Not age in appropriate", I have got MMR, so that is checked "completed series"

Then I had a TD shot back in december 2008, the doctor who conducted my medical examination told me that I need to get a TD booster first 10 years from that date. Then he ticked the box "Insufficient time interval"

Though, the result is checked "Vaccine history incomplete": Applicant may be eligible for blanket waiver(s) because vaccination(s) not medically inappropriate (As indicated above)

Does it mean I am good for filing for AOS with this?

Also, do I need to get DS-3025 translated to I-693?

    Thanks a lot

    Here is the worksheet

  4. It is pretty important, I would call back and get it.

The NVC case number is the identifier for your case. You will need it when you contact your embassy,NVC, Department of States and etc.

However, if you choose to just wait for the instructions from the Embassy, you probably won't need it. If you need to inquire about your case, you will need it.

  5. You have nothing to worry. I have been in and out the USA 4-5 times in the last couple of years without any problem.

Only the last trip did I have some proof of ties with me (letter from school and work) but they still didn't ask for it.

Sometimes, little too much knowledge (and horror stories on the internet) makes you worried for nothing.

  6. Had another talk with my husband last night, who shared with me that he 'doesn't like sex enough to bother using a condom'

He also has started telling me that I'm making him feel suicidal.

Is your husband a teenager? Because he surely acts and sounds like one.

Time to find a man in your life, maybe.

  7. I know the feeling. The wait is hard but it will end.

I know a lot of people have got married on tourist visa and adjusted status successfully but everyone's story and circumstances are different.

What kept us from doing it that way and from getting frustrated hearing about people who took shortcut that way is suppose there is a 1% that your AOS on tourist visa will be denied and maybe I'd get banned for misrepresentation.

Would you bet your entire future on that 1% odd?

We wouldn't because the consequence will be catastrophic for us. Even the risk is low, it is still not worth it.

  8. As to the 'real' issues - for this shooter, at the theatre in Aurora - here's the Real Issue: No one around him was carrying a pistol. He walked out alive instead of being shot after the first 4 seconds of shooting.

Hmm..so if there was someone in the theatre who also carried a pistol. Suppose he took out his gun and shot the Killer.

Imagine another guy who also had a gun who didn't see who started shooting first saw the guy with a gun who just shot the first guy. So he began shooting at the second guy.

And then the third guy, and fourth guy, and more people joined the shooting in panic.

Last time I checked it is dark in a theatre, no?

Then it turned out a lot of people in the theatre had guns, everyone drew out their guns in panic wanting to "protect themselves".

So that is the American mentality, huh? Living in fear? Armed to the teeth?

Now I see why there is so much wrong with the country. Next time they should hand out a handgun to everyone who buys popcorn in a theatre.

  9. What I would do is to write an email to Jo burg consulate and explain the situation and hope that they will give you an early interview date.

It is possible to visit during K-1 process, I visited my fiancee before we got NOA2 but I am from a VWP country. Since you already have visitor visa (B-2 I assume), I think if you want to see your fiancé as soon as possible you have to take the risk and board a plane to visit him. Make sure you bring A LOT of proof of ties such as letter of employment, school enrollment, apartment lease and things like that.

Note that you will still have to return to south africa to finish your K-1 application.

    Good luck

  10. When assembling our packet. Besides the cover letter explaining everything in the packet. Should there be a cover for the proof of relationship and etc.?

We had a sheet for the question how we met listing all the trips we have met and all the evidences to support it. All the proof was labelled, so whoever reviews it can easily get an overview.

Like July 2010 xxx visit yyy in USA ( see xxx's passport page 14, boarding pass #5, photo #2 etc)

  11. Your consulate is notoriously difficult, I think you have a slim chance of passing the interview without solid proof.

It is great that you met every year since 2005 but do you have any solid evidence to back that up? 7 years relationship without any picture raises an eyebrow for me.

Usually, for difficult consulate you have a much higher chance to get married and file for CR-1 visa. Have you considered that instead? It might save you time in the long run.

  12. I think the stages involved go like this

    1) Disbelief, they don't believe that you are actually really really going to move to another country. Most of the response I got was "You are moving to Hawaii?!? No waaaay"

    2) Denial, they keep denying the thought of you leaving and hoping that you might change your mind before the departure date. "My mom kept preaching me for months about how great my opportunities are here and how difficult it will be for me to live in a new place without job, without friends, really painting a picture of miserable future.

    3) Acceptance and planning, now they have come to accepted that you are definitely leaving and there is nothing they can do to change your mind. So they start planning trips to visit you biggrin.gif
