  1. It's finally my turn to post here! I am starting my first job in America on November 1st. I'll be working as a client implementation specialist for a British software company! Very Excited! :) My best piece of advice to anybody out there still looking for a job would be to find a place that values your international background. That way you won't have to start from scratch :) I was applying for receptionist positions in the beginning, but was told that I was overqualified (I am about to finish my master degree in communications.

  2. I know how paranoid this process makes you, but you are lucky enough to be going through one of the fastest embasies out there. I don't think you need to worry at all. It's not like they have been sitting there waiting for your file to come in ;) They have many visas etc to deal with. I think you did the right thing by emailing them and all you can do now is just to wait. If they recieved it by now, you will have your visa within a week or so. They process it very fast in Stockholm! (it might be on it's way right now!). They would definately have let you know if something was wrong or missing - they do that pretty fast, too! Good Luck!

  3. Thanks for your inputs!

I actually did what ibee suggested. I said yes but wrote that my availability date wouldnt be until the end of September. I really dislike misleading anyone, however, if I answer no, they probably won't even consider my application.

I am currently writing my thesis to finish my masters in international business communication and English business linguistics. Most of my previous work experience is within the field of health insurance/travel insurance though. I am pretty open to most jobs, however, I hope I'll be getting paid for all my time in school ;) We are in the orange county area CA. It seems that there are plenty of jobs, but I'm sure there are PLENTY of applicants as well lol ;)

  4. Hi VJ.

I am currently waiting for my EAD and started looking into different jobs. I can't wait to start working again! I was just wondering if any of you had any success with applying for jobs before recieving your EAD. Obviously, I wouldnt actually start working before I have the EAD, however, usually the application process to get hired can take several weeks/months, so I thought it might be good to start now?

I have noticed that several job postings will ask if you are authorized to work? Any smart way to get around answering either yes or no?

    Thanks guys!

  5. 2 things.

1: freedom of speech and expression. Are you suggesting that we cannot express how we feel about God and our faith because you don't appreciate hearing about it? I'm not asking you to believe in God, I'm expressing how I feel about my faith. I don't judge you for not believing, or having a different faith.

    2. People in this world are not starving because of God. They are starving because of our (rich countries) greediness. There is enough food to feed every person in this world.

  6. Sure looks like someone read my profile today lol.

Well, let me tell you this. I have worked hard all of my life. Living alone since I was 16, working fulltime while finishing highschool, my bachelor and now my masters. I know for a fact that I did a darn well job on preparing our K1 Application and that because of that, we did not recieve any RFE or similar delays. The rest was out of my hands. I still had to wait 5 months as most other people in here, but that does not mean that I cannot be thankful for the many blessings I have recieved in life (an amazing husband, good health, a beautiful place to call my home, a good head on my shoulders etc.). Honestly, I feel that someetimes working hard just make the blessings even greater. I believe that God watches over me, inspires me to work hard and makes sure that I get it right so he can do right.

    PS. you were just preaching.

  7. It doesn't really matter how you put it. Raising your hand to a woman and using verbal threats IS abuse. Period. While I do agree that it seems as if you might be going through a depression, this is no excuse for his actions. Of course you stay and try things out before you file for divorce, which it seems that you have done, but I also think that once a person have suicidal thoughts something HAS to change. It is not selfish of you to consider your options. You owe that to yourself and your daugther! I have read alot of sad stories on VJ and it breaks my heart. I was blessed to have exactly what I dreamed about and you should claim that too. Good luck to you

  8. Same happened to me (beneficiary). We called the USCIS back in August and was told that only when the petitioner changes address, they have to be notified. All you need to do is that once your case gets to the NVC, make sure to call them and get the case number. Once you have the case number, write the embassy in the beneficiary's country and inform about the address change. Remember to inform them about your case number. I did it a few weeks ago and I did recieve packet 3 on the right address :)

  9. Well.. altough I agree with most others, we actually planned our wedding even before applying for the Visa. Our wedding date is june 9,2012 and we booked the venue, photographer, catering etc back in July last year (because I was in the States all summer). I will admit I have been a bit worried, however, I believe everything will work out in time! I didnt tell the guests to book flights and hotels yet though ;)

  10. Hi, by looking at timelines, it doesnt seem as if Stockholm has slowed down since Norway and Denmark moved their immigrant visa handling to the embassy. I mean, it's not like we are that many Danish and Norwegians going through the process ;) On most timelines, it looks as if you will have an interview date approx. 2-2,5 months after your NOA2 (if you make sure to have the paperwork ready to send back with packet 3). We just got our NOA2, and are waiting for the petition to get to Stockholm so Ill know soon how fast it goes.

Sorry we are doing a K1 visa, so I am not sure about how it is for you guys. But I am pretty convinced that it will not slow down you guys that they have changed the procedure. At least it hasn't for K1 visas!

  11. Hi, The same thing happened to us. I (beneficiary) changed my address 2 weeks after we sent in our petition. We called the USCIS and was informed that it makes no difference while the case is processed. However, once we recieve our NVC case number, we have to contact our consulate/embassy and let them know (using the case number) that I have changed my address to make sure that they send our packages to the right address.

In short, while waiting for NOA2, you do not need to do anything.

  12. I know everybody always say not to make plans, and I cant give you any guarantees either, but Aaron and I planned our wedding even before applying for the K1. We booked everything when I was there last summer and sent in the petition after. We are getting maaried on June 9th. We agreed that if we didnt get the NOA2 before the end of february, we would postphone the wedding, but we got it friday :) I guess it also depends on the speed of the embassy that your case goes to. I know Stockholm, where ours is going, is pretty fast so I still believe it's possible. I honestly dont think you will be in the US within the next 2 months, however, a wedding in June could still be realistic!

  13. We didnt send the back either, because the seal was at the front. And in regards to reading the instructions, please do not make judgemental comments about others in this forum. The thing is, as an internatonal traveller, I realize that countries, states and birth certificates are different. Therefore, we felt confident that since there was nothing at the back, this did not apply to us. In some countries they differ between short and long versions, too.

We also included a copy of his passport and a copy of his social security card. Now, I do not know whether we will recieve an RFE for this, however, I completely understand why people, including myself, haven't included this. I mean, it doesn't state "for people with only one page, please copy the blank back side, too". Nothing else to do than just wait and see.. and pray! :)

  14. Hi everybody, I just saw this group and absolutely had to make an entry. My fiance lives in Huntington Beach, Orange Country and I will be moving there as soon as my visa gets through(huntington, santa ana, costa mesa, irvine, laguna area). I have visited many times and also studied in the US, so I do have a network there. However, mostly on the East Coast. I'd love to meet other foreigners in the area and maybe make some new friends as soon as I get there. I spent 2 months during last summer there, and at times, when Aaron was working,it did get a little lonely. I will be writing my master thesis for the first 6 months, which should help me survive until I get my work permit ready lol. But it would be nice to meet some new friends as well :)

    /Christine
