  1. Hello!

A friend of mine is coming to the U.S. to visit for 22 days, she has her Visa and plane tickets, she is arriving next Monday and there she has a few concern points. I honestly do not know the answer to her concerns so I decided to ask you guys. I will appreciate any help.

She is arriving at  Chicago airport from Argentina.

-She would like to know how much money she needs to bring with her for customs to consider it is enough, she is staying 22 days at a friends house.

-Should she bring cash or it is ok if she leaves the money in the bank and uses her credit card. She was told that customs request to see the money sometimes.

-Should she bring a bank statement showing how much money she has there?

I personally thought that once you have your visa, customs and immigrations was not really a problem, but I guess with our new president things have changed. I appreciate any help you guys can provide us. Thank you very much.

  2. Hello everyone!

Once again! A new process starts and I can already feel the headache coming back :sleepy:

I will soon apply for citizenship.

Originally entered the country as K1. Married my American fiancée (now my husband YAAAAAAAAAY, after all!!!!). I have done all the papers up to the Removal of Conditions and I have my "10 years GC" up to date.

I came to the country with 3 children. They are in the same situation I am, all paperwork done and up to date. This children are not my actual husband's kids, they are foreign kids born from my previous marriage overseas. (I am divorced from their dad since long ago and he lives in our country of origin)

Since 2 of my kids are minor (one just turned 17 this month and the other one is 15) I was reading they can get the citizenship though mine once I am naturalized. Is this correct?

I also know the kids can not start the naturalization process until 5 years of residency have passed while I can start it now with 3 years of residency. Sooooooo this means they can’t get the citizenship though mine as minors, because they will not be minors when the 5 years are up????? (Well the younger will be technically a minor because her birthday is in September and the 5 years will be up in August 2017, but still) Or they will get it at the same time I get it??? Or??? I DON'T KNOW!

HELP!! I am mixing things up. I'm sorry! But after reading some stuff here and there I feel my brain is literally mushed...

Any help to clarify this process in a case like mine?

  3. Now I have two questions, If i will not receive a biometrical, Is there anyway for me to check the status on the web as I know we should use the number on the biometrical notice? Call USCIS again and request to talk to tier 2 rep! they should be able to provide you with your new case# that was generated when your f/prints (biometrics) were uploaded (made current)! That's the number to use for your case status check on the web!

And, should I receive any paperwork stating my biometrical is still current? Technically you should! Some people do receive that notice and some don't !

Thank you so much for your answer. According to what you said I called back and they informed my old biometricals were entered on the system as of may 28th and gave me all the new receipt numbers!

  4. Thank you for your answer Happy Forever!

Now I have two questions, If i will not receive a biometrical, Is there anyway for me to check the status on the web as I know we should use the number on the biometrical notice? And, should I receive any paperwork stating my biometrical is still current?

Also I'm adding the changes to the list

  5. Hello again!

    I filled my I-751, is dated 05/13/14

    I received the I-797 dated 05/26/14

And I didn't receive the biometrical appointment.

Since 06/26 I have been calling the customer support line with no luck, they keep telling I should have received a biometrical appointment within a month of receiving the I-797. And that I have to be transferred to an OFFICER to answer any further questions, but for some reason or another they always found a excuse to don't be able to transfer me.

Today I got transferred and after a long wait I finally spoke with an Officer, and his answer was that I will not receive any biometrical appointment. That now they are just using the old biometrical they took for the Green Card, and that they will inform me of the decision in 12 months. So now the sequence should be 1- apply 2- receive NOA 3- Interview if needed 4- decision but not biometrical.

Is anyone else getting the same information from USCIS? Or I should just get an Infopass to be safe?

  7. Hello!

I have being looking other posts about this lost green card topic, and i found some good advice through it, im planning to do as in this post http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/244875-filing-i-751-soon-but-lost-green-card/

I will apply for i-751 with my 3 kids listed on it, but my oldest daughter green card is missing. I do have a front copy of it, not the back part. And there is where my question arise...

I know to fill the form i need just a copy, but i don't know if front and back copy or if front is enough.

I also know once the I-751 us filled, you still need the expired green card with the NOA in case of need to prove the immigration status so i don't know if I should get a new one (that will expire in couple months) or just deal with it as it was suggested on the post i mention above and just make an infopass appointment and a police report.

    Any suggestion or experiences?

    Thank you so much!

  8. Hello all!

Here I am again, may be guys u can guide me a little bit here.

I will be filling our (mine and 3 children) I-751 on May 8th as the expiration in our GC is 08/06/14.

I've been checking on the times for most of you and i see the NOA1 takes in most cases like a week, and the biometrics is for the most part a month after that.

So here is the thing, my kids have to travel overseas somewhere by mid June coming back ending of August.

Should they be ok with the processing times? Is common for it to take much more than the times I've been checking? What comes after the biometrics? Did someone have an interview?

I am just afraid to let them travel, and then may be need them to be here for an interview or something.

    Any advice?

  9. Hello there!

    And thx Celeste!!

I want to clarify this to see if I understood your answer reese1.

1-The kids are 16,14, and 12 years old, so I will have to check with the Airline for that fee.

2-They will need their Argentinean Passport to leave U.S and enter Argentina.

2-They will need their GC to re enter U.S.

3-They will need the letter authorizing them to travel alone signed by their father and me and notarized (all done in Argentina and in Spanish)

My question is about the agreements that were signed in Argentina, and are fully in Spanish, do i need to translate them by any certified translator?,

    and/or notarize it here?

I have a translation I made my self for the AOS but is a simple translation, not notarized and of course I'm not a certified translator. Will it be enough?

    Thanks

  10. Well what i have learned from all this is:

The best way to get ur permit or license is if u can WAIT until u have ur EAD so u don't need to show ur i-94 at all.

    Go to DMV with:

    -EAD (3 points)

    -SSN card (2 points)

    -Marriage certificate (2 points)

U can also take ONE of the following but is not needed because u only need 6 points to prove identity.

-One of the following: (1 point)

    US bank Statement

US cash card (atm) (make sure u have the back signed with same name pre-printed in the card)

    Major US credit card

(u can find the DMV list of documents to u can show as proof of identity here

With all that u have ur 6 points to prove who u are, and u don't even need to show anything else, ur permit or drivers license will have the expiration day in ur EAD (if u applied for it with the AOS is one year)

And it will give u plenty of time to finish ur green card and once u finished it u can remove the expiration day on ur permit or license!!!

  11. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made couple phone calls, they hook me up with Albany, they said my EAD is enough prove that i can stay legally in the country therefore my local DMV should extend my permit....

I called the ladies, fought them for a half hour, talk with a supervisor and they told me to take my whole papers even my I-797, and get back there, i did, they printed all my papers, they faxed them to Albany and they said now I have to wait until Albany contact USCIS to check on my paperwork and only then ill be able to schedule a new road test......

Something funny, my green card should be here like in a month.... i came home after all that, so disappointed ... open my mail... MY GREEN CARD WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know if been happy for it or just kick my mail box lol

Thx everyone for ur help tho!!!

  12. Hello all, i have a learners permit, that is valid until 12-20-16 but they added a stamp that reads TEMP VISITOR EXP 05-18-12 (still don't understand why because i was married and had ssn and all needed when i applied for this permit)

I also applied for AOS, and had my interview already.

I went today to have my road test for the driver license and they refused to give me the test because my permit is not valid as im not allowed to stay in the country.

I have SSN as well as employment authorization, marriage certificate and a notice of action stating my permanent residence is approved.

They said nothing of this is prove enough and my stay in the country should be over, so i cant have a drivers license.

Im really upset with this, because since I married my husband Im legally authorized to stay in the country therefore I should be authorized to drive.

I was trying to look for anything on dmv site to let them prove they are wrong, and all i find is aliens are able to have a new york driver license showing "proves of identity" and they are exactly what i have, EAD SSN and marriage certificate. Nothing about removing temp visitor. I called them back and they said I just have to understand that without a green card they are not going to do anything.

Is there anyway i can prove this ladies wrong or i just have to wait until my green card comes and then get another permit and only then apply for my road test again (which in my area is no less than another month wait, plus the month or more to get the green card and new permit).

Thx everyone and any hint will be more than welcome!!!!

  13. Hola a todos otra vez!!! Bueno paso a contar, vine hoy del civil surgeon en US. Algo IMPORTANTE!

    Varicella = Idem.

  14. Will be amazing if this post is sticky, so people can check this before call 10000000000000000 Civil Surgeons as i did from PA to Albany!! :P

    Industrial Medicine Associates

1762 Central Avenue, 2nd floor, Suite 202, Albany, NY 12205

    (800) 897-5252

they have more than one surgeon, and they charged me 27 dollars for the vaccination transcript

    Good Luck!

  15. I just answered this in other thread, may be it helps you too.

If you have medical insurance, you could go to your family physician,(if you don't have one i recommend you to get one, at least in new york state) so your doctor can tell you if you are missing any shot and give it to you if needed, with that, you can go to a civil surgeon, being sure you have ur vaccination complete.

I had my medical overseas in Argentina. I didn't send any I-693 with my AOS pack, I only sent a letter explaining I had the medical 2 months before that. When I went to the interview they said my Green Card is approved, but I would need to go to a civil surgeon to get the vaccination record filled again.

So if you go to your doctor in the U.S and he/she says you have all the shots required in the country, is fine, if not you can go ahead and get the ones you are missing, and then visit a civil surgeon, keep an eye on Varicella and Meningitis shot, it was what they asked me to complete.

Anyways, where I had my interview, it looks like they send ALL k1-k2 to review their vaccination.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

And remember, civil surgeon will review ur shot history, you don't need to get the shots there, so is better if you go to ur personal doctor fist, because most likely your medical insurance will cover the vaccinations you may need, as is part of being healthy, and then take the records to the civil surgeon.

  19. Hello, is there a list available somewhere which vaccinations should be done again in the U.S. Do they need to be done by a Civil Surgeon? Do they need to be re-done if you've had them already in your home country?

Here is the vaccination requirements according to USCIS Vaccination req. But as I said there is not listed the meningitis vaccine so I would add it too, as this is what I have been asked to complete in order to finish the green card production. (I had all other vaccinations but Meningitis)

I believe you can get your vaccinations wherever you wish, it means overseas or any Health services in the U.S., as you can read in my post I had all my vaccination in overseas and the medical performed by a civil surgeon was overseas as well. The important thing is you have to show evidence so take all the certificates of your vaccinations with you to the civil surgeon so he/she can transcript them into the form I-693.

  20. Hello everyone, just passing by to tell how was my interview, as i think some info could be useful.

Yesterday 2pm we had our interview for AOS in Lathan, NY. So close to Albany.

Is important to say I didn't submit my Medical with all the AOS package, as I had full medical overseas. So I only sent a letter explaining that and a copy of the medical examination receipt.

We were called in at 2pm, the officer was really nice. I had a ton of papers, according to the appointment letter and the forum advise. copies, originals, translations, pictures, and more, and more, and more, and more...........

He made us swear, then he asked if we have any joint account, lease, mortgage or insurances. I said yes and gave him copy of our bank account statements; we don't have lease or mortgage, so I handed him my husband credit card statement, cable bill in my name, and electricity bill in both names, all showing same address; medical insurance statement showing all names in the policy. And I had some school reports cards of my kids, where it shows my husband and my name as parents or guardians. He said that was good, he asked for copies, but as I didn't make copies of the bills or kids report cards, he made the copies.

Then he asked our passports, my husband identification, my SSN card as well as the kids ones (they don't have any yet because their age, but it was fine) and if I had EAD to hand it to him too, which i did. I asked him if he wanted also the kids AP but he didn't need it. I asked him if he wanted copy of the agreement of tenancy and visitation of my kids, where it shows their father allowed them to live here with me, and he said he has it (as I added a copy in the package but wasn't in English), and I said I made a translation, so he said he would like that.

He started checking the papers he had, confirmed our names, date of birth and repeated the questions about crimes, affiliations with any party and so on. I have to say the interview was really smooth, we were talking and even joking a little, then he said that Ill need new medicals, he had all our medicals there, I could see them but he would need me to have the vaccinations part review again, as we didn't have MENINGITIS shots.

If u go the USCIS site, you will not find that shot listed, but IT IS A REQUIREMENT, so as we didn't have it overseas, we need to get the shot and new vaccination records showing that.

Anyhow he said our Green Card was approved, and he will need me to submit by mail the vaccination transcripts part of the form I-693.

He handed me the forms as well as a letter stating I ONLY NEED the vaccination transcripts, as some surgeons refuse to do only that and not the whole medical.

He said we will have all the Green Cards in the mail two weeks after he receive this papers.

Something he added was, "we make almost all k1 and k3 perform the vaccination records transcript again" I think is good to know that ...

I was a little nervous about how the interview would be, but I have to admit it was more than good. From all the papers, proves and pictures I had, he asked nothing, he didn't ask to see originals of any paper, and he had all the copies I submitted in the AOS package plus all what was handed in the POE.

Now another story..... medicals. As soon as we left the office, I started calling for prices on the medical part, as I know is not cheap, and we are 4 (me and my 3 children). I was given different prices from 200 to 500, and then I decided to call Albany, even tho is not so close to my area it has many offices there, and thought it could make the price cheaper. One said the price was 100 but Industrial Medicine Associates

(1762 Central Avenue, 2nd floor, Suite 202, Albany, NY 12205 (800) 897-5252)asked 27 dollars for each vaccination records transcript and they have multiple surgeons authorized for USCIS. So is worth the gas to get back to Albany because with all expenses is still cheaper than performing it on my area. And It also give me the chance to hand the envelope my self in Latham Home Land Security office if they allow me.

Wish this info is useful at least for the ones close to Albany.
