    Hi jetlag. We are an older couple too. And my fiancee started calling USCIS when we have not been even 3 months trough. So you can call any time. Though they would not tell you anything about your case even after 5 months of your waiting. They would suggest to submit the request which they can process for another 30 days. You can try to write to your governor or senator. It might help.
