The only problem with spending too much time out of country is you need to maintain residency. But normal vacation travel is fine.
I think for citizenship at 3 years, you have to show 18 months physical presence in the US.

Found this site and it gives where she can get her permit: http://expat.ru/s_reloc5.php
Unfortunately the Minister of Culture’s website is mainly in Russian.

They may have a regular courier run that goes in between the Consulate in Santa Cruz and the Embassy.
You may be able to send the new passport and the old one through the Consulate in Santa Cruz to get the Visa re-issued.
It would be worth a shot to ask and try and save you that trip.

out of curiousity- what is this "choice of Agent" - I see you have that in your timeline Abezyo and have seen others talk about that.
Also, when in the process does one find out where and when one can go for the medical/ physicals ?
thank you in advance.
If you look at the NVC thread for each month the very first two posting are by Saylin. She has links to the wikis and such for what you do at NVC.
The medicals are normally booked by the member once you have your interview letter (for here in Canada anyways).
The process in Sweden may be different. If you go on the Consulate/Embassy website you may see something about Packet 3/Packet 4. It should be in there.
*edit: I scanned and didn’t quickly see what I was looking for but I did find this in case you hadn’t seen it before: http://travel.state.gov/pdf/medical/STK-MED-ENGL-0006-1306.pdf
In Canada we aren’t allowed to go to the medical without having an interview letter. Scandinavia may be different.
Good luck

Well... This is embarassing. My old landlord just called and said the old tenant got it but held on to it. So... I'm about 20 minutes from getting my green card.
Now... Do I call USCIS and tell them I got it and not to cancel/send me a new one? I didn't call in and speak to a Tier 2 yet but there is that note in my service request...
Thanks for reading!
It’s completely understandable especially when the USPS people were being flakes!
Glad it’s coming together for you.
-
me too... I'm not sure why you'd want the extra hassle and money?
I know some Atlanta filers were considering it.
Because rumour was that the 129Fs would not be sent to a local office but get adjudicated at NBC.
There are people in Atlanta from last summer still awaiting NOA2.
-
Where did you order the long form birth certificate?
Depends on your province. In AB you go to a registry agent and order it there.
Where are you from?
-
Did you pay the new fee for the green card? If yes then it’s a waiting game.
The SSN may or may not come in the mail. I’m not sure what the recommended VJ wait time is, but I believe that you can apply using the stamp in her passport.
-
This is good news! It’s about time we saw some movement on files through Atlanta!
Good luck to all of you!
-
I understand, and after having received a NOID (for beneficiary BC - which was supposed to go in at NVC stage not initial filing) it was a relief to get the NOA2.
But I really did think the NVC stage was going to be mentally easier on me however for me it wasn’t.
I really hope you get your answer soon and can move along!
-
NVC is no better. For driving one crazy I mean.
It’s more like start and go traffic.
Yay I get to send in a form. ####### now I have to wait. Yay I get to pay a bill. ####### now I have to wait. Yay I’m complete. ####### now I have to wait. Yay I got an interview. ####### I have to wait for it...
Just giving you a heads up. I thought knowing would help, but it didn’t seem to.
This process is not an easy one that’s for sure!

I found this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/320999-consulate-assignment-beneficiary-address-change-to-different-country/
I did find more threads googling but that seemed to have the most info in it. Some cases have gone quite quickly and others not so much lately with the transferring around of files - depending on where it’s being adjudicated. Because it seems simple enough to change it at the NVC stage, perhaps filing it where she is currently living and then making a decision as to which Consulate when it’s closer to Dec would be best. She will need legal status in Germany to be interviewed there and as you stated she can’t remain beyond then anyways.
She will need police certificates from the countries she’s lived in since 16, so if she goes back to India to live for a while make sure she gets her German one first.
Sorry about my earlier screwup!
-
No he can't because he has indicated in his second post that he, the petitioner is not living in Germany.
Correct
Sorry. I misread his post completely. Thanks for correcting that!
OP: I have seen where people have switched to a different Embassy/Consulate. I’ll see if I can’t find the threads for you. They may help you with the address decision.

You can do Direct Consular Filing through the office in Frankfurt.
I know it’s quicker than normal, but I know little about the process but there is a section for DCF here on VJ.
Here is the guide for it: http://www.visajourney.com/content/dcf
and the link to the forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/82-direct-consular-filing-dcf-general-discussion/

This is true.
The visa is affixed to the passport and the passport must be unexpired.
-
There is a Canadian who had a K3 interview either yesterday or today.
They are sneaking through again.
I hope for their sake they get changed at the interview.
-
That is completely untrue and misinformation should not be spread on this forum.
The best thing for both of you is to bring proof of your ties to your home country; it can also be helpful to have information from your immigration applications in particular anything showing you are going for consular processing and doing everything the legal and the right way. This kind of situation happens all the time in border towns and most Canadians have no issues entering the USA.
Good catch. I completely missed that line when I was reading!

They don’t…look professional…that would be my interpretation of Niki’s post.

We started the ball rolling with my married name.
When I went back to Canada, I brought home a certified copy of the marriage certificate.
I changed my driver’s licence, car registration, car insurance, Provincial Health Care, SIN card, banks, etc. I also ordered a long form birth certificate for the next step in the process. When I got back my new driver’s licence, I applied for my new passport. I
I did change my name with my employer as well, however normally you wouldn’t have your deductions changed. When I looked at the TD1 form it’s only if your spouse is dependent on you when you change off of basic deduction.
If you go to the Service Canada website there is a section on Changing your Name and the places and links for some of them.
Good luck.

My husband flew up for a visit in Oct. CBSA asked him about the marriage because he’d said he was visiting his wife. He told them he was sponsoring me down and they said okay, have a wonderful visit. They didn’t ask for proof but he did have the NOA1 with him to show.
Proof of ties to Canada have been requested from Canadians crossing down. Leases, letter from employer or paystubs, a copy of the NOA1 - it shows you have filed and are following procedure, anything to show he’s going to go back to Canada are good to carry.
If you’re planning on travelling cross-border a lot, a NEXUS card can come in handy for both driving and flying. It’s available for both of you and it simplifies your process at the border.
Also, if you are worried for yourself, bring similar documents to what your hubby could carry. Proof of ties to the US. You shouldn’t need it but it could be nice for your peace of mind.
I’ve travelled down a couple of times to see my hubby and a lot of the border couples travel down frequently. It’s not as scary as some people will tell you.

- Passport - I would wait until you are in Canada for a visit if possible as you will need a guarantor to sign off the photos etc. You must do the long form when changing your name. Plus, it’s cheaper from Canada. Also, I would personally recommend taking the application to a passport office in person because then you don’t run the risk of your original docs getting lost.
- Bank account. You may be able to send them a letter with a copy of your marriage certificate as proof. Give them a call.
- Health Card. You won’t be able to change your name because you left Canada to reside in another country and are no longer entitled to health care.
You can drive in Canada with a US Drivers License. I’m confused as to why you think you still need your Canadian one. When you can get your US one depends on the State you are living in.

The Commissionaires are generally cheaper and faster than a lot of the local police.
Not all - but definitely cheaper and faster than the Lethbridge Police.
We are lucky in Canada because of CPIC - the national database.
Other countries have to get police clearances from each province they’ve lived in because of not having centralized checks.

No the barcode sheet is for the people at NVC.
