  1. Yes I was at the airport, they made me go to the ticket counter and buy her a return flight home, they said if I did not she would spend the days in the holding cell till the airplane company agrees to give her a free flight home. I was so devastated I just agreed and paid for the flight, I was not given the chance to do anything. They allowed her to give me a wedding band. I felt so scared I was frozen, and did not ask many questions, I just kept agreeing.

    This is terrible!

    What airport was this??

What did they stamp in her passport??

She does have a K-1 visa in her passport, right?

  2. Yes its crazy how it rose by nearly 30 Euro, I had a quick coffee downstairs with Dr. Gleeson after (rugby&soccer talk)he was quite honest with me and said basically that it so expensive as you have to pay for 'the view'. Blackrock Clinics rent must be through the roof. In fairness he is a very nice man and it was an ok experience and worth every penny for the end result, but no excuse for nearly 400 quid

Ya he is sound out. And Blackrock Clinic is very fancy! A bit too fancy for a clinic, in my opinion.

There's no recession in Blackrock, Co. Dublin... that's for sure! €€€

  3. Hello everyone. All this paperwork is a pain in my #######! I went to apply for a Social Security Number today... I left being confused.

Just to let you know the details. I arrived in the States on April 5th, 2012 on a K-1 Visa.

I went today (April 23rd, 2012) to the Social Security office to apply for my number and card.

I arrived, I told them I was on a K-1 visa, I was called by name.

The guy took my application form, my passport and my I-94. He was entering stuff in the computer while I sat there. The only thing he asked me was if Patrick was a common name in Ireland...!? What made this question odd is that Patrick isn't my name, it was just a random though he had, haha. But anyway.....

He left to photocopy my stuff and came back and told me: 'for some reason you don't have clearance yet from DHS'. He wasn't able to tell me why this was. He gave me a typed letter saying:

This is to acknowledge that you applied for a Social Security Number on April 23, 2012.

Before we can issue you a Social Security number card, we must veriify the document(s) you gave us to show your Citizenship Alien with the Federal, State, or local office in the United States that issued the document(s). This may take up to 4 weeks.

If that office verifies the authenticity of your document(s) we will mail you a Social Security number card. If that office does not verify your document(s), you are not eligible for a Social Security number card and we will inform you of this in writing.

    etc. etc. etc.

THEN, he said I should receive something within 4 weeks. If not, go back to the office.

So, what's going on? Standard procedure?

    Thanks.

PS. Patrick is fairly common. Along with shortened versions; Pat, Paddy. And the Irish version; Padraig.

  4. I entered last month from a VWP country. I came in through LAX. I WAS NOT GIVEN AN I 94.

I then found out that I should have been given one, so I spent 3 hours no the phone tracking down where to get one. Then I drove for 3 hours to get to the nearest POE. At the POE the CBP officer told me I had to leave America, cross over into Canada and re-enter USA to get the I94. He wouldn't believe me when I said I had a single entry visa, which I had already used. I refused to leave America and asked him to check with a supervisor. He was busy telling the supervisor that I was just a confused woman when the supervisor put him straight. I was right in NOT leaving the office. Anyway, the long and short of it is this. I cannot get an I94 from my nearest POE. According to USCIS, whom I went to after that, I won't need one. The supervisor there confirmed that all I need to do is this

In the section asking for the I94 number I am to write " No I 94 issued. See stamp in passport." It's got something to do with coming from a VWP country and that fact that some of the CBP's at POE are not issuing the I94's to everyone. Widsy, you might get and rfe on this one, but I am hoping you don't. I am including a statement with my AOS form detailing the lengths I went to try and get an I94. I even asked for one on the plane on my way over to USA and was told there is no such form anymore...

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I know there are a few that will benefit from your advice. When I entered on the K-1 visa. I WAS given an I-94 at Dublin airport.

It was the weeks leading up to my POE that I wasn't sure what was goin' on. Didn't know if I had to ask for one, etc.

Turns out the CBP Agent gave me one, no problems. Hopefully sending AOS next week.

  5. Hi Guys just a quick one to my Irish folks... anyone knows how much is the medical at the blackrock clinic now? I know here says 366 but I have a feeling it has gone up? Also it looks like they are pretty much booked up till mid June, should I book my appointment for an available spot in June and when worse comes to worst is it possible to have your medical without a case number? I know I can ring and ask but right now I am outside of the country and would appreciate your reply :) Cheers!

€366 is correct. When I booked mine it was €320, then we had the budget at home and the price rose to €366. Glad I rang a few days before I went to confirm everything, otherwise I would have not been prepared to pay the extra money.

Also, yes. You CAN do your medical without your case number.

Call them and double check with them, maybe things have changed since January. They are well versed in the US Visa medical process. They will answer your questions.

  6. Hello all,

    So here's the situation. I'm adjusting from a K-1.

My wife filed her taxes. Her USA earned income for last year was in the mid teens (thousands). Her foreign earned income for last year was also in the mid teens (thousands).

As a result, her taxman came to the conclusion that her Adjusted Gross Income was just over $2,000... How is this possible!?!

I am the first to admit that I don't understand the American tax system... but this just doesn't make sense in my head.

He took the foreign earned income from the USA earned income and came up with the Adjusted Gross Income. Is that correct?

We are filling out form I-864 and it looks pathetic!

Should we put in her Total income instead of the Adjusted one?

Should we put in her USA earned income?

Should we put in the Extremely LOW adjusted income?

    Clueless! :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

    :help:

  7. Hello all :) Super excited to finally know so many of us have secured our appointments :) I have a question about the I-864... because my husband has been a Canadian permanent resident for the last 3 years all of his income was here in Canada. Because of this the amount stated as our 'adjusted' gross income on our U.S. tax returns is significantly less (I guess because there are deductions when stating "worldwide income") then our actual gross income. One year is even stated as $0... anyways, what I'm wondering is this going to be a problem when it comes to the I-864?? His current job pays him more then the 125% above poverty guideline...and his actual gross income in Canada for the past years is also above the guideline, will the amount stated as the adjusted gross income effect this?

How did this turn out for you? We have a similar problem!
