  1. Congrats to all of you who have been approved already!! I'm coming up on my 5 month mark a little over a week. Logged into my account and is saying, Last touched - 7/11/11 and my case is still in "Initial Review" - Everyone who hasn't been approved yet say the same thing under Current Case Status - initial review??

  2. This one is for everyone who's missing their honey tonight...

I know I'm not the only one out there who wishes they could be cuddled up on the couch with their loved one right now, especially on a cool night like tonight (well, it's cold here in Wisconsin anyway).

    Here's for speedy K-1's!

The waiting game is SOOO HARD, but like has been said, once he/she is with you, it will be worth it in the end. I am half way (hopefully) for my fiancee getting here and it feels like forever since I last saw her in June.

  3. I've been to Vung Tau and Dalat. If you like flowers and cool weather you will love Dalat. If I ever go to Vietnam to live that would be the place.

Dalat is a wonderful place to take your significant other. I went to two waterfalls and several flower gardens with my fiance and took some lovely pictures. Another place to visit not too far from Dalat is Phan Thiet, which is on the South China Sea.

  4. On the subject of sending mail to VN, I have had a couple instances where my letters/bday cards never received my fiance even though the address was correct. Not sure if the PO/govt is keeping the letters or what?? Anyone else have this happen to them?

  5. Congrats!! I know the process of getting approved for me and my SO is a long ways off, but I intend on going back to VN one more time to pick up my fiance. She has never flown before and I know she will be a little intimidated by switching planes and especially going through customs here in the States. I just want Uyen to know I will be there for her every step of the way until we land here in Charlotte and for her to feel safe. I have enough airline mileage for her to get here one way and I will have to book a flight for myself. I just dread that long flight from Newark to Hong Kong :(

  6. May be the bride's father asks for it to make sure he's not currently married (or filing for divorced but not yet finalized). Some ppl wanna make sure they're not wasting time and effort for nothing.

It's actually her uncle I'm going with to Vietnam and he is the one who made the arrangements for us to communicate with each other. He stays in contact with my fiancée and her parents on a daily basis. He "requires" her to get a Single Status document as well just for proof. I'm sure I won't need it, but I rather be safe than sorry.

I appreciate everyone's input on this and since I'm going to go through with the process, I have the forms from Vitalrecords to send off either tomorrow or Thursday.

  7. i went to my local courthouse to the clerk's branch. it was $15 wasted since i'm on a k-1 petition but very comforting confirming to myself that i am not in a marriage and free to do so by US laws.

they'll print you a piece of paper stamped, takes about 5 min.

Thanks for your feedback. Do I need to bring anything with me, like my drivers license, passport, etc when I go to the court house? Also, I don't have a K-1 Visa yet since she won't be coming over her until late this year or early next. Will this be a problem when I go get the Single Status Affadavit?

  8. In June, I'm going to Vietnam to get engaged and need to obtain a Single Status Affidavit. I live in Charlotte, NC and was wondering what the steps are in order for this legal document to be considered "official". Should I visit my local court house or is there another department I need to go to? I printed out a form which I got from here: Document, but I'm not sure if this is the official form I will need to get notarized. Also, how much will it cost me and will I have enough time to get the official documents back before the first of June?
