  1. Thinks for all the wishes and prayers!! My trip started out very rocky when I found out my passport WAS NOT valid in Vietnam. [Didn't realize there is a 6 month validity period before the passport expires!!] Anyways, I was stuck in Tokyo for Sunday night and most of Monday. I had to book a night at a hotel in downtown Tokyo for $245 because that is the closest to the US Embassy. I got my emergency passport and was on my way to VN Monday night. It's a shame i couldn't get into contact with my fiancee or her family before they left Tay Ninh to come to the airport in HCMC. Later that night, I was able to talk to Uyen and she understood.

The interview went very well and I believe it took maybe 5 minutes. Most of the interview as done in Vietnamese and a couple questions were in English. I had a Caucasian male who was very nice. I would say he asked Uyen 6-7 questions and he asked me what do I do for a living and my highest level of education. We got the pink and hopefully she will get her Visa by May 6th because I leave out early Monday May 7th. After the interview, Uyen, her dad/sister, two cousins and myself went to go look at wedding dresses. She tried on three at two different stores. I like a couple she tried on, and I cannot believe how cheap they were; $125-$250. Definitely beats prices you pay in America!!

I pray she will come home with me soon and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with her :)

  2. Waiting now in Chicago to go to Tokyo for my 25 hour flight to HCMC. My fiancee's interview is this coming Tuesday. I am staying 2 weeks and looking forward to seeing Uyen and her family once again.

I will write back as soon as I can on the results :)

  3. Finally my fiancee got her appointment letter, by email. Since her sister lives in HCMC, she went to the Consolute and they told her to give them an email stating the appointment letter was not received. Last night while talking to both my fiancee and her sister on Yahoo Messenger, my fiancee got the email from the Consolute. It contained the appointment letter she needed, and was able to download and print it off. Now my fiancee will have to go for her medical exam.

  4. The US calculate in Vietnam is driving me insane. I spoke to the operator in the US consulate in Vietnam and she couldn't provide me with information on the status of my case or refer me to another department that could.

They received my case more for more than two weeks now. My fiancé has not received her P3 yet. Today I told her to go a turn in her DS-230 at the US consulate instead of waiting for P3. We already have a HCM# case number so I think is OK to turn it in already although I have read in this forum that many advice not to until P3 arrives.

How did you go about the P3 (DS-230) Did you lady turn it in her self? Who did she gave it to? Did she have to go inside the US consulate or is there an office outside collecting paperwork? Did she mail it? Did she get a receipt?

    Please advice

The Packet 3 IS NOT sent by mail like you and I have found out. Instead, they will email your fiancee on what to do and a link to the forms she will need to fill out and sign. Personally, since my fiancee is not very computer literate, I filled out the DS-230 for her and then faxed her the forms she needed. My fiancee then went to HCMC and handed her documents to a CO at the Consolute. A couple weeks later, I got an email stating they have received P3.

Good luck to you and your fiancee and hope it will go smooth from here.

  5. I was chatting with my fiancee last nite and she has yet to receive her appointment letter from the Embassy by mail. Her interview is only 3 weeks away and I reminded her how important this document is to have in order to do her medical exam and conduct the interview. Can she call the Embassy and request them to send another one [in case the original got lost in the mail]?? I told her if she doesn't get it by this Friday, to go the Embassy on Monday and see if they can give it to her in person. Are these the correct actions to take because like I said before, the interview is fast approaching!!

    Thanks

  6. Everyone stresses about the interviews. They process 80-100 every business day. If the papers are completed properly and there is proof of relationship the interviews are a fast formality with very few questions regardless of language capabilities.

I know it's normal to stress over the most important "step" in this process in order for your fiance(e) to come back home with you. Since my fiancee is Catholic and her family is very religious, we are going to have a special mass to pray for Uyen to have a successful interview the day before. For the papers, I do have a chronological timeline + 10 year residency. Would these papers need to be notarized or is it OK just to sign them only? Also, I am planning to dress up for the interview (church clothes but no jacket) just to make a very good first impression towards the Consulate Officer. I am certain Uyen will do the same.

  7. ** Oops, didn't realize you meant the little girl in the picture you linked ** She might be 3-4 years old (not sure) but she is cute. She will sing Happy Birthday in English and it cracks everyone up.

  8. crea78,

oh wow, your financee is so beautiful, damn, she is hella hot

you're a lucky man. Best of luck to both of you.

Thanks :) Waiting almost one year from the last time I saw her is killing me :( While in VN, I didn't see a handful of young women who looked close to what my fiancee does in beauty. I am sure there are alot out there, but personally, I didn't see too many of them.

  9. My fiancée is not only beautiful, but also has a good heart who cares about others, religious, can sing really well, knows how to cook, and smart. Every moment I spend with her is pure bliss! I cannot wait to see her in months time :).

We should all link a picture showing our wife's/fiancée. I will have to post a picture later on today.

  10. I would get there before the interview and stay a couple of days past the interview date. My logic is that you would spend before the interview date happily enjoying each other's company while gathering more photographic evidence to submit at the interview. If she does pass then fantastic, there's no guarantee when she would get the visa in hand. Sometimes it takes a week, sometimes longer and if you are only there for a couple of weeks have to come back to your job, then it's very difficult to sync it up so that you could both come back to the US together.

And if she doesn't get the pink they at least you had that happy time together instead of spending the entire time together in a depressed funk. Then put your energy to work on addressing the reasons behind the blue.

But best of luck, I think you guys will get pink.

I am planning on getting there a couple days before the interview date and stay around a week or so later to spend some quality time with my fiancee. I know there are NO GUARANTEES that she will get her Visa, but knowing I am there for her will give my fiancee the confidence she will need. She has never flown before so that is one of the primary reasons for me going back to VN. If she does pass, GREAT, but I worry a little about her making it to the States safely if she does go alone.

  11. Just got off the phone with DOS, and the nice lady confirmed that my fiancee's interview date is set for Tuesday, April 24th @ 9:30AM. I have already texted Uyen the good news and I am planning on being in HCMC by Sunday night (prior to) in order to finalize everything before the big day.

I am in the process of booking a flight, but I am not sure how long I should stay there (will be at least 2 weeks+), but the trip coming home (hoping Uyen does pass), how would I go about changing my flight plans? I know I need to get insurance, but this is something I have never done.

Anyways, wanted to tell everyone the good news!!

  12. What is the weather usually like mid-end of April? I will be there for two weeks while my fiancee does her interview. Last time I went in June, it would rain a few days, but was mostly sunny.

  13. Just got an email from the US Embassy that they have received the DS-230 part 1. Everything turned out to be OK and will hear back (and I will call the DOS soon) on when the interview date is. Usually, how long after they get the form, is when they issue an interview date?

  14. Hopefully everything will be OK (crosses fingers). I am just going by the example given and that is why I thought the latter was a mistake.

My fiancée is from Tay Ninh which is also the province. I will see in a week or two if everything is alright.

  15. After realizing the several mistakes I made filling out the DS-230 Part 1 for my fiancee (since she rarely uses the computer & trying to help her out), I know for a fact the NVC will give us an RFE. I noticed the mistakes AFTER looking at the example form shown on this forum. :bonk: The form has already been faxed to her and she submitted it to the Embassy this past Wednesday. First of all, I put in the district of her town and NOT the province. This occurred on #4 and #30. Another mistake was not putting "Same as #10" on box #11 for where to send your Permanent Resident card. I left that blank.

I know she cannot send in the updated form with the correct information until she gets an RFE, but will the NVC ask for her to resubmit the DS-230 form? I know these are honest mistakes, but mistakes nonetheless!! I do have the updated form printed out ready to fax to her as soon as we hear something.

  16. So not only do we need employer info, but also where we went to school?? If ppl went to the interview not knowing this info in the 1st place (non-members of this forum), I guess all of them would fail the interview. Nowhere in the requirements on the website is stated to have all this info. Also, does my fiancee need a 10 year residency as well?

On another hand, since I graduated from college 10 years ago, how can I put my education on the 10 yr residency if there is none to list. Or should I say I graduated in 2002?
