  1. Thanks guys! I'll just go up there with a copy of the original! Hubby emailed it to me, I might as well go tomorrow and see how it works out. What can I lose. On the spot when I was there last week, no one mentioned it needed to be certified. Just 'a copy'. Its whenever I called to ask them, they said 'certified'. Idk what to believe anymore now lol. We'll just see how it works out tomorrow won't we. I'll keep you posted.

  2. Really! Wow am sory to hear of this! If they stated it needed to be a certified copy then that is what you need. Taking them anything else will just be a waste of your time. I pray you get it in time and are not delayed in your process. I just sent off my AOS / IV packet 2 days ago to the NVC. I did not include and proof of citizenship for my co-sponsor? Is this proof needed for me as well or is it specific to particular countries?

look it up on the instructions : The instructions for me stated : For U.S. citizens or nationals, a copy of your birth certificate, passport, or certificate of naturalization or citizenship. It is just whenever I called that the Embassy told me otherwise. Which doesnt make any sense. If i wouldnt of called, i wouldnt of known and I would of went in with a regular copy in hands. When at the Embassy and talking, no one ever mentioned to me certified/notarized. From what I read here by browsing on VJ, and considering the instructions for the I864 packet - a copy should be sufficient. As you know, or not know, during your interview at the Embassy you get all originals/certified papers back anyway.. So this all just contradicts itself. Instead of waiting on UPS (which is also a waste of time) I might just go up there anyway...

Good luck to you aswell! Read instructions carefully!

  3. Hey guys!

I am debating here on what to do ...

Some of you allready know the story, for others here in short : Went to Embassy last week, missed out on a paper (birthcertificate of Joint Sponsor, basically proof of citizenship) .. anyways,, Called the Embassy back later to ask them what kind of copy they needed,, they said certified copy...

NOW.. If you read the instructions for the filing of I 864 for Joint Sponsor, (where NVC should of noticed it was missing.) It says: For U.S. citizens or nationals, a copy of your birth certificate, passport, or certificate of naturalization or citizenship

    So A COPY.

    NO specifications...

See, tomorrow I have to go back to the Embassy, if I have the document (right now I have a regular copy of the birthcertificate of jointsponsor).. They only take 'comebacks' on Thursdays, If I don't have the original through UPS by tmorrowmorning, here I have another delay of a week to go back up there... Orrr, I can take the simple copy thats in my email.

    What would you do??

Go with a regular copy anyway? If UPS doesnt get the original to me by tmrwmorning?

    Thanks for any advice!

I really dont know what to do!

  4. Lytha, how did your interview go? Approved? Hoping for the best! smile.gif

Well,, They still needed a document from me. Copy of proof of citizenship from the JointSponsor (they should of caught that in NVC but didnt) Anyway, I have a 'comeback' tomorrow, and cosponsor send me the original through UPS. If it doesnt get to me before noon, I dont have time to go to the embassy anymore and will have to wait another week... They said they needed a certified copy (when I called embassy) but on the instructions it states : **If you are a joint sponsor, substitute sponsor, or the relative of an employment-based immigrant requiring an affidavit of support, proof of your citizenship status, U.S. national status or lawful permanent resident status.

For U.S. citizens or nationals, a copy of your birth certificate, passport, or certificate of naturalization or citizenship.**

Now Idk what to do tomorrow.. The instructions here of the I864 state 'a copy' - no specifications. I have a regular copy in hands. Should I go up to the embassy anyways and see what happens?

    ANY ADVICE PLS?

  7. We wish all the October 26 candidates the very best with your interviews.

    October 26th:

    Shannon & Jamie - Montreal

My wife & Kennilope - Vietnam

    Ine & Richard - Norway

Yesterday my wife had her visa interview and by the grace of the Almighty, she successfully cleared it.

Chennai Consulate didn't allow me in but wife could get in an hour early at 12 noon (interview at 1 PM). The first person checked all her documents, photos and asked her for my 1040 (we submitted I-864 using IRS Tax Transcripts). Since we were ready with copies of 2010, 2009 & 2008 tax returns, she gave those to him. He then browzed through the I-864 documents asked if she will be able to provide any co-sponsor as I was a student for 2 years prior to my current employment. We were ready for this too and she gave him my dad's I-864 and he than said that the case now very strong for favorable consideration.

Then her finger prints were taken and at 1:10, I had my interview with the CO (a young American lady) and here are the questions she asked.

Q1 - Is yours an arranged marraige?

    A1 - Yes.

Q2 - How did the proposal come about?

A2 - She explained in detail.

Q3 - How many guests were present at your wedding?

    A3 - She answered 16.

    Q4 - Only 16?

A4 - She answered saying that it was a registered marraige and only 16 were allowed inside the Marraige Registrar's Office and that we had reception after that.

Then she asked for marraige album and hardly looked at two or three pictures and gave it back.

Q5 - When did you husband move to US?

    A5 - She answered it.

Q6 - What is his occupation?

    A6 - She ansered it.

Than she told her that the visa will be couriered in 7 business days. So she was out by 1:15 PM.

It looks like AOS is taking the prime importance at the Consulates - particularly in India. For those that will be attending their interviews, I strongly suggest that you take a copy of tax returns if you have submitted IRS Tax Transcripts (yesterday they asked for W-2s of Ganesh during hios wife's interview). And to those that were students in the past 3 years, please take a co-sponsor set even if you are now making 100,000.

Once again I thanks all the VJers for their contribution to our succssful journey.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I'm going back in there Thursday! Hubby finally got the document needed and UPS gets it to my Thursdaymorning! Finally able to schedule my flight home!!! Happy as can be!

  8. I would love to be there with my wife....my school schedule just can not allow it and India is not close to the States that a 3 day trip can be planned. It's ok though... as long as she gets her visa approved and visa in hand soon after with all information correct will I be able to rest peacefully. POE I am not worried about... I have family members from here in the States that are travelling to India and are planning to bring her back home to the USA as long as the interview goes ok and we get approved.

It's all about patience... I just keep picturing the reunion...I'm gonna squeeze her so hard and never let her go again! yes.gif

:) Can't wait to go home either... We've all been in this together, I'm glad for all the info everyone has provided, all the good advices and talks! Couldnt of made it without everyone's help out here! We will all be reunited and have a happy ever after I"m sure! :)

  9. 1 month to gooo................yayyyy

how i can find out NVC Case sent to Consulate do i need to call NVC or wht?

i am leaving tomorrow evning to india.. going see him after 7 months.

so i just want to makesure do i need to Call NVC agian also i am still can login in payment site.

Call NVC, get a human and ask when they forwarded it to the Embassy..

Have you gotn an interviewdate? If you havent, you should find out. In the first place, NVC schedules that for you, and you can go from there...

If you want another interviewdate, you can follow procedures to schedule maybe another one/earlier one...

Loginn to paymentsite doesnt mean anything ...

  10. Hey, just saw your post ... How long did it take you after submitting the Document to get the Visa in hands?.??

I had the same problem, Approval after submitting the birthcertificate of our jointsponsor ... And comebacks only done on Thursdays (so the woman of the embassy told me when I asked her on the phone) .. It was quite frustrating!

  11. You can do the name change there in Belgium prior to entering the US. Or wait to change it in the US. It's a court proceeding here in the US. Can happen anytime you want to invest the time and $. As mentioned before, you can wait a few years and just roll it into the naturalization process.

I think I might just leave it untill I apply for US Citizenship... Can I keep my Belgian citizenship and become dual btw?

Thanks for the help on this!

  12. This might be an 'off kind of question on here' .. Something just blew my mind ...

For us beneficiaries, how do we go about all our legal documents from our homecountry...

Yes, we will receive a GC, but than...at some point in time our international passport from our homecountry will expire .. And if we wonna keep on travelling ...

How do we travel? Or do we apply for a US passport in meanwhile with the GC in hands ... ?

    Anyone an idea on this?

  13. What is your legal name? If you didn't change your name as a part of the marriage process then you will have to file at your local court to change your name. The process varies from state to state. Or you can wait and do it in a few years as a part of your naturalization process if you choose to seek US citizenship.

Well my legal name is still the one it has been since I was born ... I havent changed it, since 'taking your husband's name' is rather uncommon here in Belgium. And offcourse, it took me a long while to get my marriage legalized in Belgium too. SO now, filing for the CR1 visa, I used the name I have always had, not my married name ... Now, I was thinking to take my husband's name... And i didnt quiet know how to start on that ...

  14. Hey VJ family :)

I was wondering about this, paperwork is almost finally over, a 'second' interview here soon and surely on my way home...

Now, I am married and in the US it's a common thing for women to take their husband's name... In my country it wasnt so common, it our marriage now just got legalized in my homecountry... So we didnt bother about my last name ... Now, I'm soon to be in the States... I was just wondering... Am I still able to take my husband's name? We filed all papers in my 'maiden' name ... Am I still able to make changes in that?

  15. Lytha, October 25th is your second interview and our first. And we sure are longing to hear the final word "Approved" at interview and by the grace of the Almighty it will be.

And so it shall be if He will ... I'm glad I'm not the only one here 'waiting' ... Mine is somewhat easier now, had the actual interview allready, just had to submit one more paper and to the consul 's word 'you should be just fine' ... Meaning hopefully: Approval :)

    Praying, hoping!

  16. We are praying for the following that have interview on 10/21. May the good Lord be with you and bless you with visas.

    October 21st:

    Kenny & Jennifer - London

    Ansi 7 Al - Singapore

    Eileen & Wilpert - Hongkong

    Lilia & Charles - Moldova

Hoping and praying for their approval!

Next "interviewdate" to submit the requested birthcertificate from the Joint-Sponsor as requested : October 25th.

Hopefully at last the words of 'approval' and fly home ... :)

  17. I second this. If it's something as minor as showing proof of your co-sponsors citizenship they should go ahead with the interview as I am pretty sure they have ran internally his information and know he/she is a USC. They just want proof for you so they can complete the file paperwork.

I would not be worried if I were you. Just submit the doc. next Tuesday and hope for a quick turnaround.

They might ask you a few questions if the original interview was no through enough and the immigration officer made a notes to ask questions of you when you submit the doucment.

    I really doubt it though....

Thanks for this advice! It sure helps to keep the stresslevel a little down...
