On February 11,2021 I had my oath ceremony in Des Moines and received my certificate of citizenship. My wife is American and sponsored my green card and my daughter's green card 4 years ago. This entire time, my daughter has been on every application I have completed including the N400 citizenship application. I was the only person invited to citizenship interview and oath ceremony which is normal because my child is a minor (16 years old). Thus I was surprised when they did not give me my daughter's certificate of citizenship yesterday. I asked the counselor at the ceremony and he said I would nee to file a N600 for her to receive her citizenship. When I got home and realized the N600 is $1170 I almost passed out! Is this the only way my daughter can get her certificate of citizenship?????? I do understand she can get her U.S. passport but I have read horror stories of people losing their passports and not being able to get any documentation from USCIS that they are citizens since they received it through their parents. Since my child will turn 18 in 1.5 years I really want to complete this process for her so it doesnt cause issues in the future. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, My wife and I just filed our income jointly today via 1040 in-person and the w-7 for her ITIN, as we did not want to wait for the return of her passport in the mail. It will take 9-11 weeks, at least, to get her ITIN. Would this count as having filed our taxes on time (before April 15), or does she need to receive her ITIN for the filing to be considered "complete"? If the tax filing isn't considered "complete" without her ITIN, should I apply for a filing deadline extension (form 4868)? Or does our in-person appointment where we handed in our 1040 along with the w-7 count as having filed taxes, making this deadline extension unnecessary? Sorry, I've never been in this situation before!

I'm applying for an IR2 visa and I need to bring my mom and petitioner's original marriage certificate. My interview is on February 08th and they shipped it on February 2nd. It won't arrive in time even though they paid for express shipping. (Before anyone asks why did they ship it so late, our immigration lawyer told us that we would need it for the interview too late. She forgot to tell us earlier.) Because of Covid-19, USPS is overloaded with packages and short staffed, and besides that the mail system in my country sucks. I have two questions: 1: I have all the documents in hands, this is the only one remaining but I have a photocopy printed out. Is my visa going to be denied because of this missing original document? 2: Is there any chance the US Consulate will ask me to mail it to them once it arrives?
