Insurance company denies coverage to breastfeeding 4 month old infant because he is "obese"

GRAND JUNCTION — Alex Lange is a chubby, dimpled, healthy and happy 4-month-old.

But in the cold, calculating numbered charts of insurance companies, he is fat. That's why he is being turned down for health insurance.

...

Alex's pre-existing condition — "obesity" — makes him a financial risk.

...

Alex is in the 99th percentile for height and weight for babies his age. Insurers don't take babies above the 95th percentile, no matter how healthy they are otherwise.

"I could understand if we could control what he's eating. But he's 4 months old. He's breast-feeding. We can't put him on the Atkins diet or on a treadmill," joked his frustrated father, Bernie Lange, a part-time news anchor at KKCO-TV in Grand Junction. "There is just something absurd about denying an infant."

We should do right by our elderly... and put the insurance industry in charge of their Medicare

Yeah, they'd all be dropped like a hot potato.

But at least they would be free :luv:

The problem is is that the constituency that the health insurance companies court, the Marc's of this world, really do believe that a government plan would take the baby from the mother in instances such as these.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

They believe such things not because there is any evidence that it's true, but because they have a 'gut instinct' for what such a plan would be like even without knowing any facts. You can't really make an argument that will convince this constituency of anything, except that government is an unnecessary evil so why bother?

CPS would be there in a heartbeat ... to protect the baby from the abusive parents ...

I'd suggest deporting the small government freaks to Somalia, but seeing all those black people would make them piss their pants. I guess we're stuck with them.
