since when do you think you can take justice into your own hands?

To protect an innocent.

when someone is being beaten up, you dont just shoot them

No, you don't. You point your gun at them and ask them to stop. If they don't, then you shoot them.

if your wearing a badge MAYBE, but your not, so shoot them and your going down too

Save a life, or be selfish and do nothing - the choice is yours.

by calling the police, your saving their life, shooting them makes you no better than them, again you didnt and dont know the whole story, so again jumping into "lets shoot them all" mode is showing whats wrong with our society

Kreager was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Her companion, Troy Ennis, also was beaten, police said, but did not require hospital treatment.

But the mother of one of the suspects says the victim, for an unknown reason, provoked the attack by spitting in the face of one of the girls. Beverly Bell, whose son is an eighth-grader at Robert Poole, said the victim's boyfriend then pulled out a knife and threatened the girls, which prompted the boys to attack the man.

Interviewed after yesterday's court hearing, Bell said her son had never been in trouble before. Testimony in juvenile court revealed that five of the six boys arrested had no juvenile records.

"We don't know why that woman did what she did," said Bell, referring to the alleged spitting incident. "But I can't see these kids jumping on anyone for no reason."

Another parent said it was Kreager who did not want any students sitting next to her initially, prompting an argument.

Why'd you bold that bit?

I’m not sure I’d like to live somewhere where the prevailing opinion is that some sort of weapon is “necessary” when out walking the dog, or indeed – when using public transport.

I know people who lived in NYC during the Dinkin years who have some pretty scary memories of NYC public transportation during those years. Some of them have never used a subway since.

A friend of mine came out for a visit last summer with one of his work colleagues. Apparently his co-worker had some sort of hang-up about using the subway system, but he didn't really elaborate on it.

We ended up doing our own thing while the other guy stayed in his hotel room for the weekend.

Generally speaking I don't like using the subway if I can help it - mainly because of the smell and that airborne soot that coats your nostrils. I also find the scheduling system rather confusing.

What scheduling system :P

I hear you on the smell, it's nauseating. I also only use the subway when it's too long for a cab ride.

I think it was a follow-on from this:

I think it's hasty to judge what happened without knowing all the details. I find it odd that her boyfriend was there, but wasn't attacked. There's more to the story.

the victim's boyfriend then pulled out a knife and threatened the girls .... conflicting reports as to what actually transpired. If this woman did spit in the face of one of the girls, that is considered an assault.

I know that; what I'm curious about is whether or not the above he put in red somehow mitigates the savagery of what these kids did...

Savagery is presumptuous. If that woman spit in the girl's face followed by verbal insults and her boyfriend pulling out a knife, the couple provoked the altercation.

Ok, but if the victim's bf puled a knife, you consider it appropriate response to beat the sh!t outta the woman?

Or even if the woman spat on them....is it a suitable response to beat her so bad the bones in her eye socket get fractured?

Whoa.

It's hard to imagine how the altercation took place, how quickly it happened, who struck whom, etc. All I'm saying is that calling these teens savages while thinking the woman and her boyfriend are innocent victims is presumptuous. It's easy to get a knee jerk reaction without knowing exactly what took place.
