As far as I know, was told by my French friends (who may be incorrect) at the end of what equates to highschool there they are given an exam. It gives or denies the rights of citizenship. If you admit to going to the mosque regularly and are from an imigrant family, it is a basis to deny these rights. The theory goes that you will not be capable of fully integrating into French society.

They may have just been lying, but I don't see why. I never applied for citizenship while there, so I don't know first hand. I never wore the headscarf there either, I was too afraid.

I do know they conscripted heavily from the French colonies during the war (yes forcibly during this time) and afterward. They also grant free entry to citizens from their colonies, but never granted them the rights of citizenship in France.

This equates to alot of imigrants, and children of imigrants, who face heavy prejudices and an outcast lifestyle. They are shuned and blocked in many ways from "normal" French lifestyle and have formed their own sub-society. It's not suprising really.

If you tell them to go "home", well, to alot of these teens they are home. What if they have never been to the country of their ancestors? It is a choice between staying in a country that where you feel like you have no choices but it's home, or going to a new place you've never been, with obscure family connections and everyone is trying to get out of the horrible conditions there...

She was pardoned get off it. Sudan's another world anyway and i'm not really sure how you equate a country who ignores and possibly collaborates with mass genocide with any religion even if they claim it. Also interesting half of Sudan is Christian, go figure.
