Read this before you talk to a Lawyer

I know when I started this process and I wanted to hire a lawyer and if you google immigration law then you can find thousands of lawyers or services that will help you compile your packet for $$$$. I just wanted to talk with a lawyer and paid $100 for a consultation. I had no time limit and was able to ask all the questions I wanted to, I never felt rushed. We talked about what would be best for me and my fiancee and at the end of the converstation she said go head and apply for a K-1 Visa and you dont need a lawyer to do that. If you run into problems schedule another consultation because even if you come back here 5 times it will still be cheaper than hiring a lawyer.

So my advice to everyone is if you are seeking legal advice find a lawyer close to you who will do consultations.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have never hired a paralegal to do our K-1. Anyone can do a K-1 on their own. Of course, if there are other immigration issues to deal with, i.e. EWI, criminal history etc., a consultation is wise. After the K-1, we opted to go it on our own and successfully filed the I-601 and hardship on our own. Also did the AOS on our own. I realize that other countries may be a bit more complex, though for us, we saved thousands of dollars with only the help of sites such as VJ and I2US.
