Not necessarily, while an approval status change on CRIS usually says "Approval notice sent" a denial does not necessarily say "denial notice sent." A friend of mine who was denied a K1 petition saw a status that said "A decision made" and the decision turned out not to be a favorable one when she got the mail.

Its reasonable too, if you are approved, they can tell you and you would be happy and wait for the mail. If they tell you they denied you, you would call and ask why they did, but the regular misinformation line people could not tell you, you would have to try to get through to the service center... but this way you will wait patiently for the mail not knowing the decision, and then get a very detailed reasoning why they denied you and what your next steps are without clogging their phone lines. The mail will contain a very thorough explanation, so they want you to read it instead of calling, so they don't post that you were denied on CRIS.

Laura, I PM'ed you.
