We have had a whole gamut of immigration officials as members here : CPB officers, consulate officers, etc. They were/are quite a fabulous addition to the membership.

Yes I've seen some of them lurking around here:) You are right, they are fantastic additions to the membership of this site. I guess what I'm more asking is...do you think they

monitor this site to obtain information for particular cases or do you think they utilize information they find here for adjudication?

No, absolutely not. First, it would be incredibly difficult to tie a username to an actual case. And second, it would be illegal as all get out. They are required to follow a certain set of procedures and protocols, and that doesn't include anything obtained from VJ or Google or anything else.

I sure hope not...I know i've definitely done some "venting" on here and had some choice words about the length of waiting for approval...haha

I don't think the officers care to read what we have to say on this site. It is just a job and they have other interests they like to pursue after hours, just like each one of us have and do. But make no mistake about it, there are other in the Homeland Security Bureaue, who is tasked to search and read sites like our, and provide short synapses to the Managment, so they are aware of things.

Most probably one of the reasons for the increase in the K-1 processing fee is to defray the cost of Security and background checks on each one of us (USC). This background infomation is gathered by privite companies and are not cheap to the US Goverment..yes, they too have to pay for this infomation...it keep the economy going. Information is power! Don't you agree!

Well if the question is "does the government read the internet?" then yeah, I would agree. Is there someone in the government specifically tasked with reading VJ and similar sites, and then reporting to the USCIS higher-ups? I think that's just giving them way too much credit. Besides, I read VJ a lot and there's nothing I've seen here yet that would be of any use to USCIS. Most of what I see on VJ falls into one of 2 categories: routine information and "support group." Threads promoting anything shady or illegal are locked asap, and most VJ members are sensible enough to steer people the right direction anyway. As far as information gathering goes, VJ's a pretty boring site.

I am sure they do... or at least someone/people from the department do... I mean the USCIS is a business after all and public favor/critisism is important for them to be aware of in some way shape or form, if only to help improve how they are perceived... for us to think that they don't (or don't have somebody - even if an outside source) monitoring immigration boards... well VJ is actually the largest board about this sort of stuff, and the most regularly used... so I am SURE that there are some flag words/threads that someone is monitoring ... I however doubt that any of the actual "adjudicating staff" go home after their 6-8-10+ hour shift and quickly log-on to VJ just to here our woes/questions/and other such stuff... that would definitely be like taking work home..

LOL... all I can say to them if they are - hey find my application then "google" me - faster than an FBI check to check up on who I am, what I do, etc... <grin> would be all too easy LOLOLOL

have a GREAT day
