Hi :)

Welcome to VJ.

If you have a straight forward case you can totally do this process together without a lawyer.

Have a look at the K1 Guide here at VJ and also check out the K1 Flowchart which shows you step by step approximately how long each step takes.

Lawyers are expensive, why spend a couple of thousand dollars on something you can do yourselves? All they do is really proof read what you send them (you do all the work collecting everything anyhow) Before I came to VJ, Nick and I had decided to get a lawyer but after seeing all the helpful and amazing info on this site, we realized we could do it on our own and save ourselves $1800 bucks!

If you have a complicated case such as, a previous overstay in the states, serious criminal background, children from a previous marriage where the biological parent is unwilling to cooperate, etc. etc., then I would suggest using a lawyer but make sure that it's one that specializes in immigration.

Best of luck to you!!! :)

I agree. With the Guides provided here and VJ members ready to answer any questions you may have there's no need to hire an attorney to submit your petition. Unless your case is complex. Otherwise, read through the Guides and follow along. Good luck!

If your case is straight forward then the guides here are all you need. A number of people that have used lawyer's have had problems. If you read the guides, read up about what type of things people have had RFE's (Request for evidence) about you should be fine. Lawyers tend to slow things down and they are not as motivated as you are to get things right.

Kind of nervous about an attorney I cant see any advise on one you have used Please :help:

Alot of members from immigrate2us.net recommend Laural Scott (she has some great info on YouTube) and Heather Poole. I had a free consultation with Ms. Poole and she was very helpful to us because my husband received a Notice to Appear. She also recommended a lawyer to us in NYC becuase we need someone to go with us to the hearing. We did find another lawyer (he represented John Lennon) and feel that we finally have someone that knows what they are doing. But since we were burned by two previous lawyers, I am always reading everything because I am afraid something else will go wrong.

These two ladies have helped us so much with their advice.

You should really check out Laural Scott's informational videos on YouTube.

Good Luck

Our attorney has been good. We filled out all the paperwork and he looked everything over. He filed the paperwork for us and has been helpful in answering any questions we might have. We didn't spend thousands of dollars either. It was well under a thousand. If you are interested in his contact, IM me.
