Hi, I'm a Canadian who needs help, ha, ha!

I'm engaged to an American and plan to live in the US. I will continue to work in B.C., Canada. We are trying to figure out which type of Visa K1 or K3 is more advantageous to us. We can do either. Don't quite get why we would pick one over the other. One difference we see is that the K1 has a cost and the K3 doesn't. Also I have a 20 year old son who will be 21 in August and who is in university in Canada. I would like to include him on the Visa if possible. So does either Visa make it easier for him? I want to make the right choice, just not sure what that is. Help!

K3 indirectly has a cost also as you have to file a I-130.

Basically they are the same as you have to adjust status on both.

Can get your SSN faster with a K1 at the same time you have to get AP to leave and return to the US where with a K3 you can go and come as you please.

K3s can't get SSN until they get GC tho.

Strange system. Best if you can do a CR as they are a MUCH better visa than either K1 or K3.

Get your SS Card and GC shortly after arrival in the US plus a lot cheaper and LESS hassel as no need for AOS.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

K3 does have a cost and its a little more than the K1.

However, you can far more easily accomplish your goal by filing the K1 ASAP because at age 21, the sone is going to age out and be ineligible for the visa. By ASAP, I mean yesterday.
