I have a position. You guys just choose not to read it. Again - no discussion. Only "this is".

the only position you've been known to adopt is the microsecond you spend in one spot changing directions.

Thanks "FRED". Astair is it? Of karate? Back to measuring intelligence. It can and is measured easily. BULLSEYE!

I'm all ears for your opinion on that subject.

Or perhaps the only "unintelligent" people are the ones you dislike.

NITTY GRITTY here. Lets see if you can "ANSWER" the following:Why do you choose a pic of Sean-claude van dame (LOL)

Why do you say in your siggy, that your the FRED astair of karate?

My opinion is that you seek what you are not!

I dont agree with your opinions but that certainly doesnt mean I dislike you. I would just like to know why you project what your not.

I think you're drawing rather a lot from an avatar and signature, and it sounds like you're also making a rather incorrect assumption about why I used them. We were talking about naff movie actors in a thread some time ago. Other than that - no reason whatsoever. If what you're getting at is that I somehow admire JCVD or want to be him - you're about as far off as Australia.

Do you honestly think that everyone who uses an internet forum should use their real name in an internet handle and their actual photograph as an avatar?

If you like. Course when your only comments in a thread involve attacking someone else for theirs... lets just say I don't think too many people will take you seriously.

Guess I've been wasting my time trying to post about the topic when I could have joined you with the popcorn smileys.

Still you were right at the outset - this thread looks like it will end badly.

You picked the avatar, not me! I am not assuming anything. Your trapped in the corner that you have painted and now your trying to escape. Solitude is in the admission of it. Anger comes in the defense. Go ahead and do your thing . Your still learning. Its just to bad your learning from someone you find lesser of yourself!

I have always been myself and have been severely critisized for it. Oh and by the way you never answered my question.Your education has failed you miserably.

To close to your comfort, Its so obvious.

I didn't bring it up. But I am scratching my head as to why you think its important - not least considering the fact that very (very) many people who use internet forums use random avatars, signatures and ID handles that have little if anything to do with their real identity.

As to the rest - I'm sure someone else can fill me in on the meaning as its not clear at all to me. What exactly do you think you have proved?

And BTW - I did answer your question, such as it was. Cut and pasted for your benefit ;)

I got around to post 40something and had to comment cos I'm so tired and won't make it to the end of the thread  So forgive me if it's gone off topic from then (and the chances of that are hiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh)....

America is not a melting pot, despite what everyone says.......we don't blend together to make one homogenized 'American'....we are like a tossed salad....each equal yet different, yet each contributing to the overall 'flavor' that is America...

And because this country is founded on immigrants, that is why we're not all the same. And that's not a bad thing. When my great grandparents came here, they were so proud to be American that they did not pass on the Italian language to their children....they wanted their kids to be 'real Americans'. Of course it was completely lost by my growing up years.

Growing up in Miami, I was a bit sad seeing the Hispanic community there with their bilingual young children. I felt a sense of loss that I did not have the same hold on my heritage that they kept alive in theirs. It's a beautiful thing to keep that alive. By no means am I saying that people should put their heritage first....we are all Americans....but damn it's nice to keep your roots alive!

Our children will be American, and I'm sure will 'speak' like Americans...but they will KNOW England...after all, they will be English too. That is not something that we are going to let them ever forget.

On the genetic bit....I think we'll never get to a time where differences will be easily talked about without someone calling another a racist....but there is a reason white men can't jump. Come on now.

Here's a response to Dr. Watson's comments from a behaviorial scientist who actually studies intelligence...

In an interview with the Sunday Times, scientist James Watson suggested that race determines intelligence. We asked Steven Rose to respond to Dr Watson's claims.

...firstly, the question of what constitutes 'intelligence' is itself problematic - the word has much broader and diverse meanings than what can be encompassed in IQ tests.

Intelligence is always intelligence-in-context, ( many would argue that someone who can make remarks like Watson's is singularly devoid of social intelligence, for instance).

Second, the idea that there is a genetically meaningful African 'race' is nonsense. There is wide cultural and genetic diversity amongst African populations from south to north, from Ethiopians to Nigerians. There are, for example probably genetic as well as environmental reasons why Ethiopians make good marathon runners whereas Nigerians on the whole do not.

To group the entire diverse populations of Africa together is a characteristically racist trick. Furthermore, to even give any semblance of scientific respectability to Watson's claim, it would have been necessary to provide data such as IQ test results on all these varied African (and indeed Euro-American – so-called ‘caucasian’) populations and to explore the reasons for any differences should they appear.

Even where there are such average differences in IQ score, as for instance between Black and White populations in the US, there are no scientifically valid methods to enable one to untangle the many interacting factors of the validity of IQ tests themselves, as measures of anything other than school performance, educational and social deprivation, the history of slave-owners versus slaves and continuing racism, which may account for them.

It is now some 40 years since in the US Arthur Jensen resuscitated the buried claims of scientific racism, and since then geneticists, psychologists, neuroscientists and educationalists have rebutted them many times over.

It is sad to see Watson returning to this vomit. His scientific reputation will stand, but his reputation as a thoughtful contributor to debates about the relationship of genetics to social problems is irretrievably tarnished.
