Hey all, well made it here to the United States on March 25th, got my temporary "green card" in my passport and went to the SS office a few days later and got my number, now just wondering when should I expect to get my actual "green card". Also my visa in my passport is in my maiden name, but ALL of my paperwork was done in my married name, including my DS-230, would I be incorrect in thinking that my "green card" should be in my married name? My SS is in my married name.

Thanks all!

Wow your SS office let you get the card with just your passport stamp? They actually know what they are doing. We went to the SS office and she kept reading the word TEMPOARAY on the passport and thinking it meant STEWART was temporary. I was so frustrated. I'm like, "Stupid woman just READ!"

Anyway we have to go back once he gets his GC which I'm expecting any day. I've seen people who entered on March 25th who already got the GC. We entered on the 30th - so any day in my mind :) :)

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

I entered on March 21st, got my greencard on April 8th. :)

I also got my SSN with my temporary green card. Karo112, I think you just had a really stupid lady. :(

But you should definitely get your greencard soon! :)

Here's hoping, cos I went to get my drivers license yesterday and they wouldn't give it to me without my real and official greencard. Now I'm stuck cos my husband is starting training for deployment in a few weeks and probably going to Iraq in August, and I'm stuck in NC with no means of transport and a baby lol should be interesting!

kelly, you may need to speak to a supervisor, or show the clerk this:

FORM OF ID ACCEPTED EXPLANATION

If from nation other than United States, the passport must include an unexpired INS stamp, such as the I-94 or I-551

Your endorsed visa IS an I-551.

I think you can find a picture of it on the SSA.gov site if you need to spell it out for them.

According to their own information, you do NOT need a 'real' green card.

I haven't receive my green card either and my ss#. Do you guys think that I should go to ss gov. office to get my number there? or should I just wait since in the DS 230 part 2, I checked the box yes, saying that I am applying for ss# with my visa application and that be sent to my address here in USA. However, in the letter that the embassy gave to me together with my brown envelope, it says, that ss# and permanent residence card will be sent into your USA address within 3 weeks of arrival. Any idea? Please share.

Thanks.

r2k:

I think you should wait the 3-4 weeks from your entry and see what you get in the mail. Many people have been reporting getting their SS# visa the immigrant visa, and getting it within the 3-4 weeks after arrival.

Patience, darling! :)

I know but, I am on a panick here, because of what I read that some takes them months to receive it. I hope I receive mine on the date they said. Whew!!!

Thanks anyway......... :) JR

Here's my situation. On my wife's DS-230 we selected the option to be issued a SS card. Well, we went to the states back in February. It's now 2 months later and she has received absolutely nothing yet. She was chatting with her friend who entered the US 3 1/2 weeks ago and has already gotten her green card in the mail. Who can I contact about not receiveing the green card or SS# yet?
