I hear you Charles, Paola watches the Spanish channels all the time. I have to fight to watch anything else. I am trying to wean her off of it when I am home. Except for Destalando Amor of course.

I did get her signed up for some more English classes tonight though. She will be going 5 days a week now. Now, if I can get her to learn to ride the buss, she can start doing the volunteer work at school also. The more she is out, the less TV and quicker the transition to the US. Homesickness has not set in yet. I want to keep her busy. By the way she enjoys talking to Lorena. She even asked me if we could drive out to your home. LOL>LOL. I said yes, in about 4 days. LOL.

Hi Guys, I just found this forum looking for info from newcomers. Oscar will arriving by way of JFK on Monday, Nov 5th!! We're hoping that by coming in through JFK he'll get the work permit right away. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Everyone questions me as to why he didn't travel right away, but so many things got complicated for both of us after the visa denial in February. I moved to my mother's home, Oscar signed a new lease on an apartment and neither of us expected the interview in July...so we had to take some time to wrap things up before we could be together. No way did I want him living in my mother's house, in about 12 hours he'd hate her!

I'm moving into a new house on Saturday and by monday I'll be ready to begin my new life.

I'm sure I'll be posting on here more frequently now...since our next leg of the journey is about to begin...AOS!

WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Life has certainly been different for me since Paola arrived. She saw frost this morning for the first time in her life. She was kind of excited and yet so cold she could'nt stand it. LOL>LOL.

Today was the first time she went any place with out me also. I dropped her off at her english class and said your going to have to walk home. She did. I have to constantly remind myself that this is all new to her and her fears are not foolish. In Colombia she is out going and adventurus, here she has been pretty shy and afraid to venture out for fear of not getting back home. I am so proud of her. I am taking her out for dinner tonight to celebrate.

Lorena said you guys should get on the road!!! ;-) Obviously, you'd be more than welcome. I know Lorena has enjoyed talking to Paola, also. I get the impression that most Colombians are a lot more sociable than the average gringo. lol

That's hilarious about the frost. lol Lorena's older son was more excited at seeing frost on the roof of the car yesterday than I think he gets at Christmas. It was really something to see. Then this morning, Lorena rode to the bus stop with me and the boys. She wanted to see the frost for herself! Of course, then she realized how cold she was getting. ;-)

the only novela we are watching is hasta la plata nos separe. we got our ss card a few weeks ago and the first thing we both did was memorize it, all is going well. my wife loves hgtv, we've been buying things for the house, it certainly needed the feminine touch. it's starting to get cold in the north east so i've bought winter clothing for my baby. lots of sales every week.

LOL. I'm watching Destilando Amor ( Distilling Love) also. My wife loves the show! My spanish teacher recomended watching novelas because everyday common spanish is used. Of course I realize that Destilando Amor is Mexican spanish. My wife is from Barranquilla but hates the heat so she is adjusting quite well to the cold.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah yeah, she's hot. But Rodrigo is in love with Gaviota and as of last night he kicked the doctor to the curb. My husband calls Rodrigo "cabeza de toro" because his head is huge. I tend to agree with him.

Too bad..I thought she was very pretty! Yeah Rodrigo has a big head....HGH will do that to you. He is a big guy. I do give me wife a hard time when she watches the novelas. I jokingly ask her where are all the latinos negros? Also I noticed all the maids have darker skin. I guess a little bit insight into some Latino cultures.

So what are your plans for Thanksgiving with the new gals in town?

We're planning on making it Colombian style. I already got a Colombian recipe for the turkey, Spanish rice, mashed potatoes with cilantro, grilled corn on the cob and brazo de reina for dessert.

My husband said he will help. Oh yeah baby!
