Oh by the way, I use queso Cotija for my buñuelos and it works out great. Not close to the ones with queso costeño but beggars can't be choosers.

Also, I remember when I used to have Directv they had a Colombian commercial that especialized in Colombian products. I think it was called Oh Gloria Inmarcesible or something like that. I checked out their web site years ago and they had everything you wanted, but I tried to look it up again and couldn't find it and I don't have Directv anymore. It's ironic since I now work for them.

Hey guys! I posted up in the original Colombia Club section before I realized this was here. Good luck to those of you searching for Colombian foods, that is not a huge problem down here since Orlando is only about four hours away and they have a large Colombian population. The spanish programs that some of you were discussing might help learn some words and phrases but they will be limited somewhat. I find that it is hard for Lina to understand me at times because I am originally from GA and have a bit of a southern accent. I don't know if anyone lives (or knows anyone) that lives in or near Tallahassee, FL but if so feel free to send me a PM. There aren't many spanish speaking people here and I am sure Lina would like to talk to someone other than me from time to time.

Yeah no such luck here. This is really more like...lower Georgia than Florida. I think this is one of the only cities in the states (of any decent size) that doesn't have some moderate hispanic population....no shortage of alligators though.

I have the same problem as many on this site.. My new wife is Colombian and does not speak English. I do not speak Spanish. The newness of the relationship will wear off. Reality will hit. We live in Bogota, Colombia. We wish to go to the USA.. Would some one on this site, please weite to her EN ESPANOL, so she will realize she is not alone in this venture ???? I know she will get depressed unless she starts making a few friends , in the same boat. Gracias, Rosa Maria will appreciate it !!! Farmboyhere2@yahoo.com. Elkfarmer

Hello,

I just dicovered this thread...

Brillit will be here in 3 weeks. We are gathering papers/certificates that need translating. Can anyone offer any tips on needed documents once she arrives here?

I know Birth and divorce certificates. She was thinking of her medical records (she has hypertension) and maybe her certificates for work - she trained to work in a peluqueria and had a salon/spa for awhile.

thanks,

Daniel

Congratulations on your relationship :) . I was curious. Why did you chose the CR1 visa? I don't think it may be the best option.

Hi Daniel,

She can bring medical records if she wants to but they're not really necessary. She will definitely need a copy of her birth certificate and divorce decree along with translations.

Also, based on her previous posts I recommended her for you to go to your local high school to find out what vaccines her daughter may need to enroll and what other documents they may need. The vaccines to go to any school are usually different from the ones needed for her visa and it would be good to make sure she already has them before she goes to school.

Tony,

Since Mary is planning on getting married in Colombia the CR1 visa is the best immigrant visa option. Actually in my opinion it is the best immigrant visa available. It takes just as long as the K3 and if the shortcuts are followed at the NVC it usually takes less time. Plus, the beneficiary receives their green card within a few weeks of entering the US and can work at any time after a SS number has been assigned, so no need for AOS.

Mary,

I replied to your post in the Colombian K1 visa thread, there you will find the guides on how to file for a CR1 visa.

Thanks Diana. I have limited knowledge of visas for those couples that are already married or choose to get married abroad. That's why I refrained from providing any bad information. I thought I read that married couples at some point in the process could chose to go a K-3 route or the CR1 route. Most seem to go the K-3 route. I remember many of the K-3 folks here regretting there choice. That's why I was curious of their choice.

Greetings friends, fellow VJers, and Colombianas,

First and update,

Adriana and I are doing very fine. We decided to push back the date of our union to April 30th because her mother was going through a tough time and my work was creating some havoc. All in all love seems to conquer all and in the midsts of everything her mom pulled through and I decided to just visit her in Bogota instead. We had a blast! Did some shopping, went to the central park for a picnic, watched Slumdog Millionaire (great btw), played at the recreational facility, and ended up at Jaime Parque near Zapaquira on the last full day of my trip. Fun fun. My question is a small one, I wasn't sure If mounting all the possible evidence for a bonafide relationship would go so I am going to turn to you all for advice. BTW, all the marriage stuff went through and was accepted by the city of Barranquilla thanks to you all :) :). Apostilles were a headache as Florida returned my marriage/divorce and no kids statement out the window because of using the wrong notary. Apparently military legal facilities do not count :(. California took forever to send my birth certificate and even longer for my Apostille but all in all it came in. We set a date for April 30 to be exact in the land of Costenas :). Anyway back to my question, we want to build up as much evidence supporting statements as possible from friends and family. Can her Colombian friends and family send in an affidavit as well supporting our validity of a bonafide marriage?

Thanks!

James

PS: The advice of the I130 package is tremendous lifesaver on here but does everyone really send all the pages of chat logs, cell phone bills, photo albums and pictures in the mail along with the visa paperwork??
